You know if their new acquisitions start, it's a guaranteed shutout for Skinner and hat trick for Kulak.

Apparently we called up Hutson. He's been lighting up the AHL. Surely he'll provide more scoring than Mangiapane & Frederic.

Crosby is just 2 points back of Mario Lemieux for 8th all-time and 1st in Penguins history. We do love helping players to milestones, so I assumed he was the one due for a hat trick tonight...

Can only be an improvement on Max Jones. I'm still baffled how he got put in the lineup. Also - why is Lazar in over Tomasek?

Truth.. Milestones ✅, "Slump Busters" ✅(usually right after Jack makes a point of announcing the slump) , and "Ex-Oilers" ✅.. sometimes all 3.. they are not mutally exclusive.

Update: Kulak is wearing Coffey's old #77 .. he asked Coffey for permission..

So a shutout for Stu, and a Gordie for Kulak.. ?

Per Stauffer:
Hutson on teh 4th line.. suspect he gets a few shots up higher during the game..
(btw.. Freds signing looking like one of teh worst yet.. Mangiapane's is not far behind.. neither even look engaged in the games.. no skill, no speed, no interest .. which is good if you are applying for a mortage.. but not NHL hockey)

Besides the obvious defensive blunderbus of #2, #25 et al.. another major weakness of the Oil is the play of evryone on the ice when neither #97 or #29 are on at 5v5..

Team gives up TWICE the goals they score when they are NOT on the ice.

Per Staples:

Quote:

.. But what Knoblauch has done in terms of his bottom two lines hasn’t worked this year. It’s not helping the Oilers win. A new approach is in order.

You see, Edmonton is in desperate need of offensive play when Connor McDavid and/or Leon Draisaitl aren’t on the ice.

With both of them or one of them on the ice at even strength (950 total minutes), the Oilers have scored 60 goals and given up just 48.

Without either of them (97 or 29) on the ice (781 total minutes).. the Oilers have scored 21 goals and given up 46, reports Natural Stat Trick.

It is a Jarry vs Skinner showdown? That would be damn rude if the Pens rob us of that :)

Of course I would go in expecting the absolute worst and most hilarious outcome as well.

There's no defending the Frederic re-signing and you're even seeing some people in the Oilers organization looking to disavow it now with some reporting that Bowman disregarded advice from analytics and scouting staff in making that signing.

I will say, while I understand the early frustration with Mangiapane, I think we need to not get set in on evaluations. He was bleeding goals against to November 15th. I think he's been a lot better since. Since Nov 15th, he's played 13 games with 0-4-4 and is +1. In the first 20 games he was 4-2-6, but -16. Worth noting that he had 3 terrible games in a week which 10 of his minuses came from.

I know he had a season with Calgary where he had 55 points, but that's an anomaly in his history. He's scored at 0.47 ppg over his career, which means he's about 5 points off the pace right now, but he's also playing exclusively in a depth role right now so not seeing the same ice time as he would have in some of his stops, and he'll get next to no PP time in Edmonton (if you factor that in to his career numbers, he's only 3 points off the pace). Last year he scored 28 points in 81 games (5 on the PP) so very similar to the pace this year.

I'd like to see more offence from him, but as bottom six guy, he's not costing the Oilers anything when he's on the ice and he has better offensive touch than most of that crew there (although that's not exactly a clash of the titans).

I don't think he's got run him out of town on a rail numbers - just need to level set on expectations. He's not a 50-point player.

Media is suggesting that it is Jarry vs. Skinner. We'll see which team understands their former netminder's weaknesses best...

Game 34 and 15 have been eastern conference road games. The team record is decent considering that.

Oilers offer the most hilarious option. The just aren’t shooting at skinner at all. 0 shots 9 mins into the game.
