Reporting now on TSN.
https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/article/oilers-acquiring-g-jarry-from -penguins/
Kulak, Skinner, and a 2nd rounder going the other way. They also acquired Spencer Stastney from Nashville for a 3rd round pick.
Its the end of an era for Skinner. I think he goes on to have a long career mostly as a back up from this point on. I hope Jarry is the answer here. He wasn't great last year but has rebounded this season and was pretty consistent for the years before last. I don't know much about his style, so maybe someone else can speak to that. Skinner playing well the last few games probably helped to get this deal done.
Spencer Stastney has played 81 career games and is having his best season so far. He has never played a full NHL season though, so hopefully he is with the 3rd rounder that was given up.

Wow! Skinner, Kulak & a 2nd rounder going back. Got Sam Poulin (who?) as part of the trade as well. Assume he'll be AHL bound.
edit: Looks like we got Spencer Stastney from Nashville for a 3rd rounder too. Wonder how we can fit him in cap-wise?
Jarry for Kulak & Skinner is pretty much a wash in terms of cap hit

Poulin's been a really good soldier down with the WBS Pens, and is pretty talented. Bowman and co have been brutal at identifying current NHL talent to bring in, however they have loaded up the prospect cupboard with some real possibilities. Poulin has really nice hands, good offensive numbers and can skate.
Stastney is a former USNDP grad (same period as Emberson). Was very well regarded during his time there and with Notre Dame. I think he's like Kulak. Versatile, good skater, probably hints at more to his game being available however generally fairly solid. On a brutal Preds team, he seems to be keeping his head above water. That bodes well.
I think all of these acquisitions were solid.
Let's be real for a moment. It was time for the Stu rollercoaster to move on; it was a confidence killer for the team when he'd bottom out. Sure, he could be more than excellent at times, but those efforts were too often followed up with disastrous outings.
Skinner's save percentage has been sub .900 for a few years now and was continuing to drop. Jarry's having a bounce back year and has only had one sub-par season in the last five. Solid move... better lateral goalie and is more athletic. Also very good at playing the puck.

Wowzers. Skinner helped us out a bit here with his recent play.
Well. Can’t say Bowman doesn’t have balls. Holland would have used skinners recent play as an excuse to do nothing.

Looks like Sam Poulin also coming to the Oilers in the trade. 1st Round pick from 2019 with a few NHL games, but never made any impact. Solid AHL numbers, so good for Bakersfield. Should help them when the Oilers inevitably call up Howard or Hudson this season.

Wow. Our D was already thin so not liking giving up Kulak. I really hope Jarry is an upgrade on Skinner.

Presumably they figure Stastney can assume those minutes

Sounds like another great skating D, to replace the smooth skating Kulak. His analytics are pretty good, we probably worked hard to pick him out to target to give us a cheaper replacement for Kulak. Hopefully he can step right in and be good on a 3rd pair.

Penguins fans seem to love the deal and are glad to be rid of Jarry. I know he isn't perfect, but his numbers are pretty good outside of last season. Are we all missing something here?

Fans of losing or long struggling teams usually hate their goalies.
Couldn't ask for a more perfect test case than this goalie swap. Jarry has played pretty well this year. If he comes here and becomes a sub 0.900 goalie ... might be time to blow this team up! And imagine if Skinner starts playing 0.910+ for the Pens. Of course if both goalies just keep performing similar to before, hat tip to Mr. Bowman. Should be interesting!

Kulak and a second included and no salary retained??
Massive overpay. Hopefully Jarry can stay healthy bring it in the pressure packed playoffs..
I would have been happy with this package for Binnington but this seems like a huge risk

If Jarry was having a bad year we probably could have got some retention. We are the beggars this time of year.
Yeah Jarry has to stay healthy now or we are in a world of hurt. Still need another goalie if Pickard is going to keep playing as poorly as he has this year. Ingram experiment still not working out in the AHL.

I would have wrote sooner about Jarry but I suffered a lower body injury writing it. Seems to happen quite a bit when I write about Jar... happened again..
Skinner should have been a solid number two, he was trust into the number one spot when he wasn't ready and got tainted by poor management. Should have left the tandem alone if there wasn't a good option.
Kulak, going to miss him, is Stansney better? I don't know. Nashville has been a tirefire.
Bowman is a terrible GM, these moves are lateral at best and consumes even more cap space.
The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.
Generally Disappointed.
