Sarcasm aside, we played decently. Got goalied.

McDavid looked 10x better the second half of the game. Clattenberg I noticed out there in only 6 shifts.

Nurse has the mental acuity of a jar of marshmallow fluff.

As bad as Skinner is, if you can't score a goal your forwards failed.

As soon as roz, kappanen are back.. Fred sits. Useless efforts.. tired of watching his lazy ass wander around the ice.

Mangiapane looks done.. think his top 6 days are over.. zero threat to score, play continually dies on his stick..

McD, LD, RNH, Hyman, Roz, Podz, Henrique, Janmark all competing .. 8 out 12 forwards..

Too true.. I watch that guy play defence.. he makes unforced weak decisions all the time.. gets behind his net with the puck .. no one on him.. all he has to do is turn his head a few degrees to look up ice and see if he has any wingers along the boards he is ringing the puck around to.. doesn't even look.. just blindly fires it around the boards.. never looking up ice.. sometimes their winger is just sitting there and picks it off for a skate into the slot and a grade A shot.. or.. no one is there at all and it goes for an icing.. just doesn't bother taking a look.. which epitomizes a lot of his play and decision making..

Tyler Wright probably earned his place among Chia and Holland as a top Oiler saboteur.

Actually I have to waver on blaming Chia for the Rheinhart trade.. McT was on Stauff the other day and talked about that trade.. said it was the scouting staff who came to Chia and were pushing it, McT said Chia questioned it and wasn't sold on it but pulled the trigger anyway trusting the scouts.. Now bringing in Lucic and trading Hall .. I'm still giving him full credit for that one! lol

Yeah, I always had a feeling the oilers org pushed that on Chia. Our scouts have had a boner for Oil Kings forever, there is no way they wouldn't be obsessed with Reinhart's winning pedigree. Chia looked like a fish out of water starting that job. Damn lucky Sather tossed him a gift to make his start not a complete joke.

That Oil Kings boner is still going strong. Jarry and Brossoit rumors. And I'm almost certain now that we had blinders on for Cossa in that 2021 draft and didn't even care that Wallstedt existed. The mass depression of Cossa not falling to us probably encouraged that stupid trade/pick.

That interest in Cossa hasn't dissappeared.. Stauff has mentioned Cossa's name a few times this season.. but the timeline he hints at is the off season not this season.. he's RFA next season.

Here's some interesting stats for you.. the major mistakes per 15 minutes stat for defensemen and forwards is pretty telling.. correlates to visual for me.

Walman worse d-man.. Fred worse forward

Hope Walman gets it together. He started the season really well, but you can see him struggling out there a lot in the last month or so. Maybe playing with Nurse is a factor, as it has been for so many before. Hope him getting a retirement deal out of us isn't part of it. He has a bit of a reputation from his Red Wings days that hopefully he puts to rest.

Most of the rest, landing on that chart about what you would expect. Emberson maybe better than expected, but he gets the weakest comp. Frederic, holy crap dude.

Caveat has to be that those are Staples stats - so by definition highly flawed, like the man himself.

As mentioned above, the Nurse factor is highly impactful.

I believe those stats are derived from the game reviews of Staples, Leavins, and McCurdy (son) .. not one person.

Don't know much about Young McCurdy, but adding Leavins to that mix doesn't really improve things! He and Staples have to be the worst hockey commentators in the city. I'd rather read articles written by most Oilfans posters over anything from those two. Between Incel Staples incredible ability to be wrong about everything and Leavins with his incessant need to tongue Katz's nether regions, the Cult of Hockey is just incredibly unreadable.

Those fan stats line up pretty much with xGF at even strength.

D in order are:
Ekholm (55%)
Bouch (52%)
Emberson (49%)
Kulak (48%)
Nurse (44%)
Walman (42%)
Stecher was 33%

Only <50% zone start guys are Kulak (45%) and Emberson (36%). Other 4 guys all around 55% or more. Emberson I guess looks even more impressive considering that.

Regular forwards:
Henrique (53%)
McDavid (50%)
Drai (50%)
Podz (49%)
Savoie (48%)
Roslovic (48%)
Mangiapane (47%)
Tomasek (46%)
Nuge (44%)
Frederic (44%)
Hyman (43%)
Howard (43%)
Philip (36%)

Henrique is pretty low event, so must be getting a little boost from quality of chances for to put him out of whack with Staples and friends just counting individual events all equally.

Overall, some guys stand out, and there is a big bag of mediocre otherwise. This is by a mile our worst "analytics" performance to start a season in a long time. These guys are just not into it so far this year. Our mediocre results at this point of the season is kinda deserved.

Our sav% is crazy bad which makes our PDO quite low. Shooting % is middle of the pack, which was more of a factor in previous bad season starts. Previous crappy starts we would have bad luck with shooting and goaltending. Now we are getting pretty close to what our efforts deserve offensively but with stinkier goaltending.
