This contract is essentially a free Jake Walman for 2 years.

I think it gets more than just Walman..
Walman is currently making 3.4M .. McDavid gave up around $7M .. so Walman's new contract is only really eating up 3.6M more than what he is now.. so what McD gave up allows for the addition of another 3.4M in cap room.. in addition to Walman's increase.. for another roster player..

Wild take but I don't think it's too crazy.. there is clearly room for a top 6 or even top 3 talent or top 6 and an upgrade on goalie.

The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.

Generally Disappointed.

Contrary to Vancouver, Calgary and Eastern sports media.. IMO this isn't a "you got two years to show me or I walk" deal .. its how much of the cap should I take now, and still have enough cap to get the competitive players I need to win.. in his 3rd year he'll be making 11% of the cap .. almost half what he's worth (20%) .. if the cap is projected to go up.. he' sign a new deal that will allow enough cap room for him to win (11% to 15% ?) .. The only way he won't sign with the Oilers is if Bowman goes insane and signs 5 or 6 "Nurse" type deals.. which I doubt he will.. and anyway.. I'm sure McDavid's opinion will be (and is) involved with most significant roster decisions and signings.

Holy crap - never realized Zadorov was that fast. At that size, hits from him can't feel too good.

I don't think these NHL "speed" clockings are that accurate or representative.. I've seen McDavid clocked at 35 kmh .. and I can't imagine Debrusk or Zadorov having the highest elite NHL speed.. the speed checks must be pretty sporadic across the league.. even so.. I wouldn't want a big stiff like Zadoraov hitting ME at 24 kmh .. ! 😬
