Seems like a fair deal to me. His skills will start to decline (if they haven't already) over the three years of the deal and having him for 4 mil per season will make him a very affordable second pairing Dman. Heck, even if he slips to a third pairing guy his contract will still be fair.

Edited to add: Apparently a full no move for all three years of the deal. I don't love that for a player who will be in his late 30s but I guess to get him to take 2 million less per year than he was making on his last contract you have to give up something. I still like this deal.

Full NMC’s are now standard operating practices in Edmonton, but I don’t hate this one. With the rising cap this probably represents fair value on a declining asset. Hopefully Ekholm has fully recovered and ages like fine wine.
As long as the blueline plays like they can, they’re pretty set and can focus on forward and goalie depth moving forward.

Holy Ek!
Love the contract, people are predicting a drop off, maybe it happens, maybe it doesn't but I'm glad he's here.
The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.
Generally Disappointed.

Excellent... follows the lead of McDavid.. he wants to win in Oil Town.. takes a cut and not stretching out term..
Guy is a defensive foundational piece.
IMO Ekholm gets longer term and at least 6M+ elsewhere..
McDAVID! Oh YEAH Baby!! (Thank you Lord!)

About time we start to have some value deals. Not saying this is guaranteed to look great in 4 years, but zero chance he would have needed more than a day to find someone to give him more than $4M.
Now if Nurse could just retire, we would be all set.

He only signed for 3 years, so in 4 years this contract will look pretty great when we sign him on a 1 year $2.5M deal for the last year of his career.

Reasonable cap hit for sure. Hope he can stay healthy through the deal. Need as much of the good Ekholm as we can get.
