No PTOs for anyone yet, hey?

Samsonov, Pacioretty, Kostin, Olofsson, etc.

Olofsson signed with the Avs, so it would be pretty awkward if he showed up.

I wouldn't mind a PTO for any of the others though. Weird that the Oilers wouldn't do it.

Hyman out until November

Ryan Rishaug @TSNRyanRishaug
Knoblauch says likely early November for Hyman.

Yikes. I guess it’s only been 4 months.

There has never been a more important year to come out hot out of the gate. This makes it harder.

hmmm, that's pretty lazy looking. Effort on par with how hard Holland worked to sign the player that number is for.

Come on - Holland locked him up for only 250k more than Makar! Sounds like a hometown discount to me.

Agreed on this. Pretty boring jersey.

It's also a bit odd to me that Ekholm seems to be the face of the campaign selling it. Not only is he a little way down the list on the most popular players, but I believe he's also a UFA. If McDavid isn't the guy because of where things are at on the negotiations, then Ekholm is an interesting substitute.

With all the uncertainty, I wonder if this one isn't a flop as a revenue generator. I know I'm not really excited about spending more money on merch with this possibly the last year of McDavid.

Not that it really matters if they want to put him in a jersey and take pictures but the team should be looking to trade Ekholm at the earliest opportunity and before it becomes clear to the rest of the league that he is done. We got a glimpse of what an old injury prone Ekholm looks like in the SCF and it's not a guy you want to resign unless it's for a massive pay cut (which isn't happening). At this point he probably still has some trade value, but Bouchard can only carry him for so long.

Stu is looking AWESOME in his first game action of the preseason. 2 goals on 8 shots for a rock solid .750...

Way to go, Stu. Way to put those reps in over the summer.

Dude is terrrrrrrrible.

LOL... 4 - 1 loss to the Kraken, who played Beniers, Ebs and a bunch of nobodies... and the Oilers had McDavid, Draisaitl, Bouch, Ek, etc in the lineup.

Getting off to a quick start again, boys!

I hate myself for actually thinking it was true after reading your first sentence.

Did he look faster with the 15 lbs off? :)

Well.. some thoughts;

Freddy is no Hyman.. skating wise or skill wise.. basic stiff.. un-noticeable playing with 97 and 29
Not impressed with that guy at all so far.. seems to be the same guy from last year.
Does not look like top 6 forward quality.. can't handle the puck.

Skinnier Skinner still letting in the five-holes.. bad poke check attempt on the 2-1..

Funny.. Seattle's goals came on a PP.. and 2 even strength goals with 97, 29, 14, 2.. on the ice.. their best skaters

I liked what Lepanen.. Regula were doing.. Akey held his own.. young forwards showed potential.. made some plays..

Janmark's hands still replicate petrified wood.

Lazar should be looking over his shoulder at Philp

Tomazek didn't look out of place.. with better players he might generate some offence.

I honestly hate being a downer this early into the season, but seriously, we just gave huge money/term commitments to 2 grinder type players that we very clearly saw with our own eyes have garbage hands. I do hope they figure things out, but lack of skills with your stick and with the puck is the HARDEST thing to develop as you go on in your career. Can get faster, can get more experienced, can learn to read plays better, but talent with the puck on your stick, most guys, you either got it or you don't. Most guys with crazy talent that don't actually show it until late in their careers is because of a change of their effort level and commitment (like a Nichushkin, who has regressed back to questionable commitment), not because they suddenly became talented with their stick.

Game was disappointing .. but you're right it means nothing this early.. only 29, 97, 14, 2, skinner, Freddy and bread-muncher will be playing game #1 .. possibly Tomasek as well.. 29 and 97 looked like they had a lot of rust.. Ekholm too.. Bouch looked good.

The game did leave some bread crumbs though like the idea of moving Freddy up to top 6 might be a big stretch for his skill level.. the guy is not the dynamic sort.. hopefully he gets his game together.. I think a better guy to move up might be Tomasek.. guy can handle the puck, make plays, and snipe.

Watched some highlights now. I guess we are actually sticking McDavid and Drai together again? I hope Knob gives a fair shot to some of the young skilled guys we have. So badly need to be a 2 line team again.

It was drilled in on the radio where it was said by many pundits, if you stick 97 and 29 on the same line you've lost already.

Some of those voices have changed their tune saying "it's not for the full season". To me, it's like saying a 10 storey building is on fire, and then someone saying yeah, it's only on fire the first 3 floors, it's not the WHOLE BUILDING! Only to find the building condemned.

They are being deliberately obtuse, we all know it's not going to last a full season however, on that thought it gives the "extreme overreaction" lens to the fans to the comment.

You simply do not start them together and get them to used to it.

The fact Kobby is doing this even in the preseason (after a very uninspired effort) I feel he doesn't trust the rest of the group to do offence by committee; something winners are made.

If the Oilers need a good start to the season you need to do a better effort than to mail it in even in preseason. Okay, okay, maybe an overreaction there.

Hot take: 29 is the captain in waiting when Connor leaves.

The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.

Generally Disappointed.

I don't care at all what lines they run during pre-season. For the veterans, this is just a Sunday skate to get their legs moving again. For the rookies and the bubble guys, they're getting played in a bunch of different spots so the coaching staffs can try to figure out how they fit in the depth chart.

The team won't want to give teams much of a sneak peek at anything interesting they're doing with regards to set plays, powerplay set-ups, etc. so they're just going to throw people over the board with less prep than normal and let them play some shinny.

I don't think that Knoblauch cares any more than I do whether they win a pre-season game against Seattle. As long as no roster players got hurt, that's the win to me.
