I accept this without reservation. I do think our current justice system is working exactly as intended. Viewed from this lens, my lens, the Hart verdict doesn't matter. Whether we think not guilt, guilty, the system has been intentionally broken, or the system will get it right. We already believe what we believe.

You're right that it doesn't matter in any kind of meaningful way for anyone other than the people involved. But I think in this case both things are true - the system has been intentionally broken and they will probably get this one right. The amount of eyes on this case and the unlikability of the "victim" and the testimony that has been heard makes it seem pretty likely that they will be let off. But don't forget - the damage has already been done. These players have already had their lives effectively ruined or close to it. Hockey Canadas reputation was destroyed and the leadership has been replaced with more...acceptable people in charge. The players getting off now will be seen by some as the justice system getting it right but I view it as throwing a bone.

Which brings up the point made by nz oil fan about the cops in Alberta who are frustrated with the justice system. It's odd how so many things that no one really want to happen just continue to happen anyway isn't it? No matter how loudly people complain or how hard they vote the things that make things worse for almost everyone just go on. Political parties go back and forth and nothing changes in a way that would actually make things better for the local population. The justice system is a good example. It's the same in the U.S. and in Europe. I wonder why that is? Probably not a topic for NHL speculation though.
