Stauffer calls it again. Said this morning that we would get a goalie today.
"We need to get better immediately. That starts today"
- Lowe, 2013
"Next year I would forecast as another developmental year"
- MacT, 2015
5 x $5,000,000

I don't think the EBUG is for another year.. Rodrigue is out..
So next year for the minors they have;
1. Nathaniel Day
2. Connor Ungar
3. Samuel Jonsson
4. Matt Tompkins
Vinni had back surgery last year.. missed last season so he'll be starting the road back in Finland, and the new kid Salonen is playing Finnish elite.
That's 4 for ECHL and AHL .. suspect Tompkins and Jonsson may platoon in Bako.

I really like him. Stand out Sherwood Park Crusader from back in the AJ days AND Canadian Olympian. I don't think he'll be an answer in Edmonton, but I hope he gets a game or two.

I do hope that A) whatever solution we have for the goaltending conundrum on the NHL team doesn't result in a Pickard/Tomkins tandem in the AHL and B) that even if Tomkins plays very well that the team is committed to developing at least one of those kids.
We've done a poor job historically developing goalies and we have had a succession of these older goalies who are AHL coaches tend to love.
"Thinking that a bad team's best players are the reason the team is bad is the "Tambellini re-signing Lennart Petrell" of sports opinions." @Woodguy55

I suppose the big fear is the Oilers coming back with Skinner / Pickard in Edmonton and Tompkins / kid in Bako. I wonder if Bako is pressuring the team to make the AHL team more competitive.

Speaking of goaltending - is Dustin Schwartz still with the org? I thought I had read that they were planning on letting him go a week or so ago.

No word yet. All assistant coach position contracts are up so it will soon be seen who gets renewed, so if Swartz wasn't returning (or others) we'll be finding out shortly.. as well a Gulitzen's replacement.
I know nothing about Swartz as a goalie coach just that our goalies never seem to develop that well compared to some other teams, might be time to try something different? Depends on the replacement of course.

Honestly neither do I - but in a results oriented business as the NHL is/should be, I really have a hard time seeing what exactly Schwartz can point to as anything close to a reason to keep him around.
I'm not sure if he is the problem, but he damned well does not look like the solution either.
