.. hope against hope that Bowman rightly stays away from the UFA nuthouse and makes a trade for a guy with term and reasonable contract.. 🤞🏻

Yeah. It is pretty clear multiple good trades is the only path to fixing our roster. Does Bowman have that in him? He better. McDavid is probably holding off his extension waiting to see what Bowman does. Garbage job and McDavid might be only inking a short 3-4 extension at best.

The Podz deal was great.. and Emberson is still TBD

Find a team that has some young cheap assets.. hit on them.. speculate.. assuming of course your pro-scouts can be trusted. Not sure what we have left to trade though

Starting goalie, top 6 winger, perfect Nurse babysitter. Some tough holes to fill still. Same ones as usual.

Prayers we have a GM now that can make a trade and not need to wait 3 years for a lucky cap dump of an Ekholm to drop into our laps as the only good trade he does for an elite contributor.

Yeah still can't believe Nashville traded Ekholm.. I liked him every time the Oilers played him.. he was an human eraser..

Nurse babysitter.. funny a top paid NHL D-man requires one.. the best asset the Oilers could acquire would be a D. Nurse that learned how to play NHL level defence (positioning + awareness), improve his muffin shot, and/or pylon-like mobility

That would be like the best UFA signing or trade.

If I’m in McDavids shoes I’m only talking 1 or 2 year based on what’s transpired so far. If even. The fire is at managements feet and they haven’t done anything to forward the odds. Offseason is Bowman’s playoffs, trade deadline is his SCF. And so far just tumbleweeds.

This offseason has been an epic dud so far. Sure, you're dealing with a cap situation and you need to clear out some players...

But WTH? Skinner, Arvy, Brown, Perry and Kane all gone, with nothing to replace them?

Sounds like this team is in the process of a pretty significant rebuild. Connor won't want any part of that.... :(

Disappointing to say the least. The rumour of a nurse trade was too good to be true. That’s the biggest boat anchor. IMO he’s a decent 4-6 Dman worth 4-6million possibly. He still thinks he’s a top pairing offensive guy. He’s def not a hard to play against stay at home, mobile D-man. If he could drop the offensive effort and just focus on the physical, he could be much more effective I think. Besides beating this dead horse, management for this team has once again shown themselves to be incompetent and a poor judge of talent. To think Zito made the short list before the Complicit One was hired.

Bowman delayed his media availability today 3/4/5 (3pm, then 4pm, then 5pm, then cancelled) times and ultimately canceled.

Something is either cooking… or someone is cooked.

Careful what we wish for.. This could be a good or bad thing..

The scheduled presser was either an announcement nothing had happened on July 1st.. and Bowman's summary of the days non-events.. but then some new opportunity came up unexpectedly and they need to work on it this evening..

Or.. a deal had been cooking today .. but it fell apart .. and then had to cancel the press conference for it.. which could be good, or bad..

Based on some of these UFA contracts.. no news may be the better news!

Lots of wild contracts that I'm glad the Oilers weren't part of.

A few I wouldn't have minded: Drouin, Fabbro, Allen.

Mangiapane seems fine, but as a mentioned in the other thread, seems like a wash when considering they moved Arvidsson to make it happen.

I haven't seen Mangi for a couple seasons, but from what I remember he's a much better skater than Arvi.. which to me was Arvi's biggest problem .. and Mangi also plays PK.. which Arvi didn't

I guess we'll see.. I was hopeful about J. Skinner last year and you see how that turned out!

I'm in this boat as well. Then those on X and others are saying is the season tomorrow? I don't think I'm overreacting when I look at the pieces left over versus what we had, I didn't think it was a Stanley cup winning team but right now even less so. I like Mangi as a signing, but this can't be it or it's a rebuild and angry McD is signing for less term.

I just don't think Bowman is the guy to set the Oilers up as a winner, True he's barely been GM but his track record since last off season? Shaky. Kapanen and Podko are the only help and they we on a broken toy island (wonder if some can spot the reference)

As McDavid said in his availability - don't worry if everything isn't done on July 1. There's a lot of summer left, and lots of ways to build a team. The reality is that we can't blow our brains out chasing expensive free agents because the team already has too many overpays on the books.

Would I have loved to see Boeser sign here yesterday at a discount? Of course. But the deals signed on July 1 are often the ones teams regret. I'm willing to be a bit patient here and see what happens.

Unless they move Henrique, that effectively ends Oilers NHL transactions for the summer.. less than 200K left in bank.

I don't see why you'd need both Lazar AND Henrique. Both right-shot bottom six forwards. A little more offence in Henrique maybe but that's dropping off.

Given the last few years for Lazar, he could realistically end up in the AHL. 5 points in 48 games last year. And at that price point he's 100% bury-able. Honestly, I'd probably rather see Philp than him in that role. If we're only getting 5-10 points there then may as well be the one who could develop up in to it.

Bowman suggested Henrique could end up on the wing in the top 6. Seems like we are not planning to move him now. Unless something comes up for a goalie at least, then he is a pretty obvious guy to move to free up cap space.

Maybe something looking like this?

Nugent-Hopkins / McDavid / Hyman
Henrique / Draisaitl / Savoie
Mangiapane / Frederic / Tomasek
Podkolzin / Philp / Janmark

Kapanen, Lazar

Also, Henrique is a LH. Only RH Centres I believe are Lazar and Philp.

ISSAC HOWARD

Lots of chatter about Tampa draft pick Issac Howard (1st round 2021) who is the 2025 Hobie Baker winner with Michigan State.. Reports are he wants out of Tampa.. Tampa's rights will expire next summer and they'd lose him for nada.
So, Oilers offered a 1st rounder for him, but Tampa turned it down.. apparently it was pretty close to a deal, Howard wants to come to Oilers, and he could probably step right into the line up.

Looks like Tampa is upping the ante, and the other seagulls are starting to circle..

Article here.. + Seravalli has mentioned it as well.

Have a feeling like we're waiting for Carter Hart to be available to "fix" our goaltending. Maybe Schwartz gets another contract since Hart has been his star pupil forever.

These hockey CAnada lads will probably sign dirt cheap 1 year deals at least.

Stauffer end of season sign off today saying he thinks Oilers will shed more cap.. like $2M .. and run the season with an excess.. in order to accrue cap space for the deadline.. which would be worth about $8M at the deadline.. sounds like someone's thinking ahead this year at least.. interestingly, both guys Jackson blew the cap on last summer during UFA frenzy.. according to the other teams aren't regarded that highly.. .. Arvidsson is worth a 5th rounder.. and J. Skinner still isn't signed.. wonder who the pro scouts were that chose those two? Whoever they are/were I hope they are not anywhere near the steering wheel..

They have 14 forwards + 7D + 2G on NHL contract = 23
Play with 13 or 12 forwards?

Not sure where they shed the $2M.. Max Jones ($1M) to minors.. and ?
