Question:
It says the Oilers traded their 2026 5th round pick to Nashville for Nashville's 5th round pick in this 2025 draft .. which was the 3rd pick in the 5th round ..
Why would Nashville do that? Oilers will undoubtedly finish relatively high in the standings next year (at least better than 3rd worst) .. and will have a pick much lower than 3rd in the 5th round.. did I miss something here? .. "future considerations" ?
Arvi going back to Nashville? :)

Here's Stan's draft summary interview.. and he discusses other items as well including trades.
Arvidsson's agreed to be moved.. McDavid is consulted about team roster direction & decisions.. sounds like he's totally in the loop.

The NHL network guys were saying about that stat the few times I put the draft on to see who we'd picked up. I even heard them say that the Devils had drafted a 6' 8 netminder.. We are starting to draft NBA sized players now.
If the trend for bigger players continues, does it down the road lead to debates about going to Olympic size ice pads as there's going to be no room on the current NHL pads.

Too true! .. Either that or play 4 on 4 !
With the wing spans and reach players have now its getting pretty hard to skate around a guy.. might even devolve into a case where teams just play for 0-0 when 5 v 5.. and hope to score on power plays.. some teams do that already.. not fun to watch as a viewer.. especially a casual one..

Did anyone else find this years draft format goofy. It was like the Gary Show. I think he actually likes the microphone more than his hefty salary. The awkward walk to the widescreen where the 18 year old and the staff that drafted him try to have a conversation. It was so weird. The Goo Goo Dolls, Female wrestlers etc announcing the selections.
Call me a traditionalist, but I prefer all the big draft tables on the floor and the GM or a scout walking up to give the announcement. The staffs walking from one table to the other to make trade proposals etc.
I will say having Gaudreau’s sister make the Columbus announcements was a classy touch, but those ideas can be worked into the previous format as well. It just looked really bad with people not knowing where to go. Bettmans fake camera smile 64 times. The walk through a doorway to go chat about nothing to a widescreen. Apparently Dutchie didn’t care for it either. I hope they abandon it before Oiler draft years matter again.

It was definitely a weird one. There were a couple things that worked - Cool having Adam Sandler make the Bruins pick and getting Josh Jackson and Marguerite Mageau to do the Ducks one was fun too - but otherwise it was a bunch of B- and C-level celebrities, and a whole lot of Gary Bettman. Also - it was unbelievably long. You'd think with no one there that it could have been quick - but somehow it just dragged out forever. Even the walk to the podium seemed to take forever as the kids had to go find all their buddies to high-five first.
I don't really think that was Bettman's idea - he had some comments in his interviews in the Finals that made it sound like he wasn't crazy about the idea but the teams had voted to do it. I've heard that everyone kind of hated it though and it's one and done. Next year should be back to the old style.

Not a fan at all, but you know what it may work for other sports and it was worth a try but it failed. What I didn't like were the NHL tv bods saying that they can't wait to get back the Sphere. It has to be time soon for Edmonton to host something. I know we've said we want the ice district finished, but that could be never.

Alphonso Davies. I feel like he's the only hometown celeb they regularly show at Oilers games.
Of, given that it happened in Hollywood... have Wolverine make the pick.

Edmonton native and 2 time Stanley cup runner up Stuart Skinner. The Stache makes him an entity far beyond just a hockey player.
