Ugh. The Oil need to be better in 2nd periods. That is all.

Its the long change, too many guys are too slow.. can't get to the bench.. get stuck out there.. turn it into 5 man disorganized fire drill.. shot after shot.. wingers are awful .. can't get to the boards fast enough to get rung around pucks..
No help from the bottom 6.. Henrique is done.
What a waste of an effort.
The SH goal was an embarrassment on both Nuge and Bouchard.
1st goal was on Kapanen lazy clear. and let Jones walk right in for an empty net.

Ekholm can't keep up to this pace. He was terrible. Gentle giant out there getting worked over.
Also tough goal to let in. Didn't even get a shot away.

Hurts to lose like that. Ugh. Really wanted both at home. Need to split in Florida at least

Outside of the goal, Draisaitl played like garbaggio in this one. He cost the team at least a couple of goals on brutal giveaways / broken plays.
He needs to be infinitely better in G3. Missed opportunity to take a 2-0 lead to Florida.
Would strongly consider bringing Klingberg out for Stecher. He was awful in this one because of Florida's pressure. His lack of lateral mobility was pretty glaring.

It was never going to be a sweep, but still wanted this one.
That was a pretty weak goal. And honestly pretty weak game.

These are definitely the two best teams. Really disagree with your view on how we played, because I view it as we were a bit short against a great Panthers team...and compared how the average games are going to go next year and the 5-10yrs after...well we're closer to the peak now than we may realise. So I'm going to enjoy it.
We'll get at least a split coming home.

We let them have too many break aways, but tiredness crept in and a tiny mistake cost us. The fight, desire are there, we just have to be a bit smarter. We messed up on the powerplay which led to the shorty, god only knows what went wrong on that, we just didn't look like we knew what to do on the ice.
I had us sweeping them at home, but we can go down south and win at least one if not both the next games, we've got this.

The too many men non call was criminal.
It wasn’t like a normal too many men call where the puck glances off the guy or whatever - in this case he stopped Arvidsson from going straight to the net. They HAVE to call that one.
Nurse was hot garbage all night. I thought Skinner was not great. He let in 5, and 3 more went through him and almost in the net. The last one was pretty bad.

And the stick kick from Bennett. Right in front of the ref couldn't have been more obvious and then he scores 2 seconds later.
And these are the refs that made the final. Best of the best!

Yeah that was the worst.. the refs call that ALL the time, even when you pretend to "skate" the stick away.. there's no lee way.. and especially because Ekholm was trying to pick it up while he was doing it.

Well 14 didn't really help the situation by skating out to the blueline to get his stick and complaining to the refs..meanwhile leaving a 5-3.
But yeah obvious call and they just decided to let it go. Unforgiveable how they are just allowed to do that and no repercussions.

Nobody seems to observe how horrible the pp is….
We are up 3-2…. we have 40 something seconds 2 man advantage….. and they didn’t even take it seriously…. if i remember correctly they get scored on at the end of it?
Why the coach didn’t call a timeout and rally them….

Had the pleasure and displeasure of seeing this one live. Behind Bobo in OT2, so didn't see how painfully weak that OT winner was until today :( I was confused how it went in because I saw Marchand didn't really get a shot off.
He need to play much better than that to win. Unless weak sauce plays move pucks along the walls in our zone. Many unforced errors and straight up panicking.
Some of our depth guys looked out of their element in that game too. Gotta hope Knob has some adjustments to get those guys back in the game.

Yeah the depth guys weren't a threat to score, at all.. and usually the ones involved in the 2nd period D-zone fire-drills.. some of the depth guys are just too slow, too weak on pucks and along the boards, and too easily out of gas, to make a line change.. turns into the 2nd period gong show we've had the last 2 games.. Florida is outskating these guys in our D-zone.. they need to have shorter shifts, decide to make the line change while they have puck possession, not suddenly realizing it when they are out of gas stuck in their own zone.. and.. stop senselessly icing the puck (hello Darnell), Oiler faceoff % has not been good. Henrique is struggling at 3C, wheels are gone.
The goal by Jones was all the result of a weak play(s) by Kapanen.. we got a glimpse why he's struggled to keep an NHL job.. inconsistent.. totally blew that sequence.. weak clear out.. and then let Jones skate right by him untouched.

Any time a player gets talked up by the media and interviewed about how awesome they are playing, their redemption arc, hardships they've overcome and yadda yadda, it's almost a guarantee they are crap the next game. Kapanen the latest victim lol.

I said it in my initial post and have gone back and rewatched the goal just now, he doesn't get a shot away, but whilst it looks weak, Marchand right at the last moment plays the puck through the 5 hole, he didn't have to take a a shot. Are we saying Stu should have not allowed the 5 hole to be open? As watching it almost frame by frame from the bench side camera he did everything right up near enough.
I may be missing something and I'll bow to your opinions, but for me it looked weak straight away, but he's pushed off to go from left to right, he's tracking it well, should he have closed his legs quicker to prevent it going through into the net?

I think everything about how Skinner’s legs/pads were set up as that puck was just sliding towards him set him up for failure. Just an awkward stance. I am almost certain there is no way Bobo is letting that in. Oh well though, think we know skinner is not the most technically sound goalie. We gave up ridiculous chances in OT already and were really playing with fire. We also got our chances and failed to cash them in and get pucks up. Skinner made his fair share of big stops too. Game was set up for a weird goal to finally finish it and that went in on us.
Be better next game and don’t leave so much to chance. I think Florida coaching staff did a good job countering stuff that worked for us in game 1. We have to get them back.

Here is Bennett interfering with Ekholm by kicking his stick..
Notice how he just doesn't kick it.. at one point he purposely moves Ekholm's stick with his stick to position it so that Ekholm's stick is put in the path of his skate in order that he can pretend he is just skating "through" it.. JUST as Ekholm was about to pick up the stick..
Again, refs usually make that call 100% of the time even if there is a sniff of stick interference.. never mind on a PP where you create a 5 on 3 situation..
Side Note; Chris Rooney shouldn't be reffing a Final.

Even worse is that if you run it for another 0.5 seconds Bennett scores a goal that has zero chance to be scored if Ekholm has his stick.
I'm not sure which is worse. The refs either are so stupid that they got Jedi mind tricked into thinking bennett just repeatedly accidentally kicked his stuck from in front of the net to outside of the zone.. Or they knew what was happening and consciously decided to ignore it.
Haven't heard a peep from media about it. Still worried about Hintz foot I guess.

It's crazy how much we heard about missed calls against our opponents. Like Arvidsson against Vegas. They talked about that for a week straight. And Hintz getting slashed.
But nothing about the Brown head shot, Nuge getting slammed into the boards, Frederic getting slammed into the net. Or this stick kick or the too many men (most egregious too many men missed call ever IMO).

No... it didn't go our way.
The 2nd periods and board play are killing the Oilers and the board play are preventing chances of breaking out. Our forward line need to be grittier and nastier upon the boards.
Don't let Marchand and Bennett get to the Oilers. Box them out, and the stick to grittier play. If the Oilers don't match or exceed the intensity, Florida repeats. I hate saying that too, but it is possible.
Florida has all the chances in the OT period, and Stu was leaky with the puck perilously going to the corner of the pipe. He's gonna have to dig the ____ in.
These games are about the tenacity of winning the cup. Lay it on the line. Don't play sick unless there is someone else who could take the spot.
Dig in men. We will need the split in Florida.
The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.
Generally Disappointed.
