Ya want a good omen?

As the game was going to OT last night, I had a wild premonition. I had a feeling that the GWG was going to be scored on the 46th shot of the game. Why the 46th? Well, if the Oilers are gonna win the Cup, they're gonna have to exorcise some ghosts. One of the biggest Oilers "ghosts" came in Game 1 of the 2006 finals when MAB fell on our number 1 goalie. What number did MAB wear? 46.

Not to jinx your omen, but Bergeron wore 47, not 46.

Fantastic win. I'm still pissed about that Bennett goal. What an absolute farce of a call that was.
Skinner was rock solid in the 2nd and 3rd when he needed to be.

Really hoping for Kane or someone to lay the smack down on Bennett.

3 more wins...

I agree. There were people on here in the gdt saying it was a bad challenge. Honestly it was pretty obvious if you watch the replay there was no trip. He just 'fell'. Terrible call and momentum swing that could have cost the oilers everything.

I still think it was a terrible challenge. We've seen much more egregious plays not get overturned. Sure Bennett staggered back into Skinner, but there was enough there to say that he tripped over Kulak's skate. I do 100% believe it was intentional on Bennett's part, but at no point did I think that was getting overturned.

"If an attacking player has been pushed, shoved, or fouled by a defending player so as to cause him to come into contact with the
goalkeeper, such contact will not be deemed contact initiated by the

has made a reasonable effort to avoid such contact."

If that's Bennett making a reasonable effort to avoid contact then I have an oceanfront property in Alberta to sell the NHL

The initial call probably sealed it. Think if Kane fell into Bobo like that the ref wouldn’t be going full Mick McGeough dramatic calling the goal off and forcing us to be the ones to try to challenge to make it count?

It’s crazy to me that some players keep getting a pass from refs. Bennett has already taken a goalie out in these playoffs. He fell on Andersen and even landed another sneaky elbow on him too last series. A whole career of intentionally falling into and on and injuring goalies and the refs see him in Skinner’s lap on a goal and just say “yup, great goal!!!!” And put the onus on us to challenge.

This 100%.

To be clear - I absolutely believe it was interference and should have been overturned. I am 100% confident if that is Kane at the other end falling into Bob, that goal gets wiped off the board if it is even allowed to count in the first place.

Maybe it’s my PTSD, but I would have bet anything that wasn’t coming off.

The NHL is so incompetent its staff don't even know their own rule book.. Bennet was NOT ".. pushed, shoved, or fouled .." he was moving backwards and tripped over Kulak's foot.. which was STATIONARY.. Bennet's own movement caused him to trip.. by this ruling last night a player that steps on a stick would be allowed to crash into a goaltender.. or just purposely skate into a stationary player and "fall" into the goaltender.. that was one of the worse reviews I've seen.

Have to give Knoblauch credit he was asked about the challenge after the game and said he'd do the exact same thing again.. essentially calling BS on the NHL.

The real embarrassment were the pundits on Sportsnet who all agreed with the ruling.. lap dogs
Maybe it was because Bettman was lurking in the building last night..

Here is the thing - the rule doesn't say the contact has to be on purpose in order to wipe out a goal. It can't be purposefully caused by the defender, but accidental goalie interference is still interference.

Colin Campbell's kid's team is always just given latitude to do bad things that no one else gets for fear that Soupy will send some more angry emails. Bennett wasn't even disguising his cheap shots last night. Straight crosschecks to players - notably Draisaitl - away from the play, in front of the ref. It doesn't matter. Only penalties now are high sticks and puck over glass.

I’ve still never forgiven him for that, as it likely cost them the Cup that year. Please also note that MAB never won a Cup with any other team he was a member of after that run.

I felt another version of this was that we had Pickard, who was playing really well, got his leg fallen on, which ended up being an injury, but not only did we still win the game but our next goalie in ended up being able to play extremely well and pick up where Pickard left off.

Someone pointed out MAB wore 47, but maybe scoring before we got to MAB counts as good omen too. Can aspire to not be like MAB lol

Man alive.. getting that tying goal was painful Florida was suffocating and yet McD willed the puck to our Viking warrior and tied it.

Ardvisson making a chance play.. and the gamble worked.

This is the first game one in a SCF that I have watched where my team won. It wasn't easy, it wasn't simple but holy heck was it a huge win.

That corgi didn't lie! Hopefully he's right for game two.

I'm just enjoying this, the revelry and and fun to watch our team for so long get to this moment. It a;; seems surreal and yet I feel myself tamping down expectations and refusing to count my chickens because I've felt good about the team before only to be dashed and the heartache is so bad.

3 more wins to go.

Let's Go #Oilers
