Poor 3rd period, soft powerplays against and ours PP still needs work. Score line isn't great, but still confident.
Take me home, country road
to the place where I belong
to Alberta, to see the Oilers
take me home, country road

IMHO only the PK let the OIL down. It has been a problem all year but was better in the playoffs. ...certainly not tonight.
I hope DALLAS thinks they were the better team in this one.
...this time, it's for real (isn't it?).

He should be fired for that call. At the very least be made to apologize. Terrible.

Reffing wasn't good, Duchene sells it, but Kane got him in the chin/left side of his jaw with his stick.
The replay on TV was awful, showed the back half of the play and Kanes stick coming down.

Really? I just saw the one replay. Turned it off at the horn. The one they showed missed him completely and seemed he just threw his head back.
Either way - what a collapse from the highs of the first 40. Such a let down. We need some saves once in a while.

Still tough to see but the toe of Kane's stick goes right under the visor.
Like you say, terrible collapse.

If the Oilers as a whole don’t bury the refs after this game, something is wrong.

Look at Skinner at their 4th goal…. puck goes in the back of the net…. he has comments to do instead of going into the net.
This is not a goalie…. come on…

That’s a classic Skinner meltdown play. And the team sags hard when they know Skinner is in that mode. His battle level is just zero. Second efforts out the window. Just sulking in the net.
It’s very important for our GM to find a real starting goalie this summer.

On the second goal instead of evading the screen, Stu just stares directly into the name bar and does the scarecrow of hope. Pickard doesn’t do that. Third goal was another vintage Stu statue of hope goal again. Fourth goal he’s flopping around and doesn’t know where the friggin puck is.
Awful penalties tonight. Awful goaltending.

Poor discipline and poor goaltending for sure. There's a temptation to blame the PK, but the reality is that they didn't allow a lot of shots on from the Dallas PP - just almost all of them ended in the back of the net. I didn't like the scramble on the Duchene goal - but otherwise, they looked pretty good for lots of it.
The goals weren't terrible but at some point we need a hard save out of the goalie.
I apologize though - this one is ultimately my fault. I had not been posting on game days until after the game and then yesterday forgot and did so. That threw off the mojo. I won't post tomorrow and we should be back to our winning ways.
I did like the rough stuff at the end. Always like to see a little fire when there's an ugly loss like that.

Someone has a proper video on the Kane high sticking penalty?
From what i’ve seen, stick was nowhere near Duch face….

It was a high stick

They showed a bad replay on sportsnet that was after Kane's stick was coming down already.
Dumb penalty, and the one before too. Or PK is trash and our goalie needs our team giving maximum effort to reduce quality chances against. We can't afford any more of that.

Play like the first 40 for a fill 60, and we take this in 5. That is if Skinner can get his save % at least .850…
You know what this felt like? 2006 Finals, Game 1 against the Canes. Got out to a 3-0 lead, went into the 2nd intermission up 3-1 and looking like far and away the better team. Then the 3rd period happened. Canes scored early and added 2 more on the PP.
Still bothered by this one. Can’t sleep. Ughhhh

The good news is Skinner always leaves much to be desired after any break, but then comes out solid after 1 or 2 losses. So I expect him (and the team) with a more focused game going forward. Pickard is also still injured so we also don't have a choice.

Man so bizarre.. goalie pool is so shallow we have a starter that lost the job to the backup, and the 3rd stringer is so iffy they are afraid to drop him in.. I hope Skinner doesn't take 2 games to shake the cobwebs out .. PK'ers gotta start blocking shots like there is an open net behind them..

I keep going back to 2023 when Vegas won the Cup.
They had Thompson, Broissoit, Hill, and then just to be sure, they tossed the Jackets a 7th and an AHL goalie for Jonathan Quick at the deadline.

All because Robin Lehner got inured. They also started a guy named Patera a couple times.

I bet they would have done something similar if Lehner put up a .896 season too.

It was a collapse of epic proportions. Worrisome too, with the fact that the penalty kill can't block a shot or move players out of the crease. The Oilers were the ones staying in the crease and yet they forgot that.
On the Stars of the second goal, Stu couldn't see a thing. I don't blame him at all, he made a guess, guess wrong and that's the breaks. It ruffled him. On the tying goal Stu was beat clean upper right, but the defence left Dallas all day and night to pick his shot. 4th goal, Stu has to have that, but this loss isn't on him, that go ahead goal was in his mind, he was panicked and
You can't do that to Dallas. They are way too good of a team to allow these weak goals and weak defensive play. Blame Stu all you want but this is a larger problem with the team getting rattled instead of playing their damn game. The Oilers as a team just panicked and forgot fundamentals.
Do more of that and you're golfing soon.
At the end of the day, they need to play all 60 mins like they did the first 40, calm and measured. They have been through this before and I believe they can figure it out. They still fall in the high jinx of poor defensive play and need to recognize when it's happen.
Kobs should have called a time out.. settle the horses. Especially Skinner. He's fragile. Fans pouncing on him isn't helping. I'm not apologizing for Skinner, but I'm not throwing him under the bus either.
...because there is nothing beyond Skinner. Like him or not, he's your only hope.
The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.
Generally Disappointed.

Well like I have said previously. I wasn't expecting to sweep Dallas. Was an epic collapse by Edmonton. We out played them for two periods , just got a bit careless in the third and the refs also played a huge factor. I think we beat them Friday and tie this series up. I wasn't aware that Pick wasn't on the trip. Skinner wasn't totally at fault. I think he could have stopped the breakaway and probably the last goal, but when a team has back to back to back power plays that's tough. Our power kill also sucked badly. Dallas was fortunate to get those calls, and score and take advantage of their power plays. Play a bit more disciplined in game 2, and we should win
