Gotta be Stu. If he is weak game 1, Pickard game 2,3 and then back to Mr. Game 4 no matter what :)

That's what I'm thinking. Back to back shutouts has to get you the next game, but the leash will be shorter than ever. Bad game 1, if Pickard is healthy he goes game 2.

Good news all my East Coast friends... we can finally sleep! No more late starts! (I'm on a chat with some Oiler buds here on the Rock and the average sleep last night was about 4 hours.)
What happened to all of my messages? lol (I guess it's been awhile) BlueSky: StefBarnes

Hooray! I get a week or so to catch up on sleep.
HUGE credit to Knobs coaching these playoffs. Made adjustments, and some ballsy calls with regards to changing the line-up. Guy doesn't get the credit he deserves.
Hopefully the week off gives Ekholm time to get healthy.

Skinner 100 percent. Not sure what the hell happened but he is rolling right now. I wanted him working at Wal Mart, but you have to go with the hot hand. He has been extremely good since returning

This one wasn't so bad. Was it last year that we had a couple of almost midnight starts against LA? (even worse for you with an extra half hour)
I find those West coast games easier when I am in Paris - I just wake up a little earlier before work as opposed to staying up till 3-4AM.

Well - if the series out East go to the teams leading now, we would have home ice should we make it to the finals. Still hoping for Winnipeg to show signs of life and extend their series to 7 games.
What a contrast in feelings this morning heading into the West final versus after game 2 against the Kings.

I'd just got myself used to early morning starts again and now I've got a week off!!!!
Still it's worth it as long as we keep winning.
A bit of rest to get bodies back closer to full fitness, time for Picks and Ecks to get fit enough to play. Things could be worse I suppose.

Mike wrote on Tue, 13 May 2025 09:53 | Well with that shutout, Skinner now no longer has the worst save % these playoffs. He passed Hellebuyck!
Skinner .857
Hellebuyck .848
Next up:
Vasilevskiy .872
Hill .876
Ullmark .880
A 21 save shutout would do it (.881). A 45 save shutout would get him back to .900, but I don't want to see 45 shots fired at him.
|
Well - he got a 24 save shutout. A 21 save shutout in game 1 will get him to .900
I don't think he stood on his head either game. He did make a few really good saves both games, but the biggest thing was how controlled it all seemed. No flopping and running around. More of the same please.

Well said. And with the talent the oilers have. We don't need Skinner to be the best goalie out there, but if he's even average we have a shot to win the entire damn thing.

Moneypuck not giving the Oilers any respect. Even though the Oilers are the only team through to the conference finals, they still only have the fourth best Stanley cup odds (behind Florida, Carolina and Dallas).
https://moneypuck.com/predictions.htm
I think the the algorithm doesn't weigh recent history highly enough. The Oilers' weak last 30 games of the regular season convinced Moneypuck that they're not very good.

Start the year as favorites, end the year as the underdog in every series. It's very Oilers, and maybe just the way it needed to be to have a real chance to win :)

Skinner probably starts, but he also has a history of losing the first game or two back from an extended break. Here’s hoping he knows how to hold onto his juice.
Also we don’t know what state Pickard is coming back in when he’s back.

How does Knob know when games 1-2 will be? :)
Regardless, the return of Ek appears to be getting close.

Please don't be stepping onto the playoff ice unless he's really really really ready to go. I'm both excited and extremely hesitant. Last thing we need is Oilers medical pushing another walking wounded on the ice only to make things worse and needing 6 months of for surgery.

Quote: | Kris Knoblauch said Friday that Mattias Ekholm is now listed as day-to-day. The big defender will not draw back during Games One or Two of the series. But he could re-enter the lineup as soon as Game Three. “Optimistic” is the somewhat cautious word the coach chose to use.
Knoblauch:
“I’m not anticipating him being ready for Game One or Game Two, but we’re optimistic that maybe sometime in this third round he will join us”. he added “To expect Ekholm when he does join us that he’s gonna be the Ekholm that we saw last year in the playoffs, you know, I don’t think that’s going to be the case. Whether that takes him one, two, four or five games or whatever it is. But I think he’ll be able to help us in some aspect immediately’.

I wouldn't get my hopes up too much about Ekholm. He has basically been awful and/or injured all year. Even if he is able to come back they aren't getting the version from 2023 and the team is on a run of zero goals allowed in the last 2 games. I certainly wouldn't be rushing Ekholm and if they continue winning don't change the lineup.
Bouchard looking pretty good without Ekholm. I would be looking to sell high on 14 in the off season if possible.

Not a chance.. when he's healthy he's the Oilers best defenceman (excluding PP)
Not getting my hopes up too much.. Stetcher has been a beast.. good placeholder while Ekholm gets to 95%

With the Leafs capitulating as they did, I'm guessing that means we'll have to endure Cuthbert and Simpson for our games now? I'd wish they would also carry Jack and Louie so you could select who you'd want to listen to, though I wouldn't get the option over here.

I think once the jets were out the only options were Singh and Cuthbert :(. I probably take cuthbert over Singh.

Honestly, it doesn't matter. Not having to listen to Jack is a huge win either way.
And no more Louie trying to forgive the referees for every non-call too!

.. Ha! yea that was the worst part for me, Louie refusing to talk about the calls missed, and excusing/affirming the ghost calls..
My answer to it all has been synching with Cam and Bob on 880.. Cam is better than anyone on SP IMHO
Also..

while going through replay of penalty ..

I don't understand why Sportsnet doesn't use their hundreds of channels and massive oligarchical reach to have a regional audio game and a national audio game in the playoffs for Canadian teams that have SN broadcasters. The local fan wants biased homer coverage of their team trying to win the stanley cup. Why not give the customer a chance to choose what they want? Unfortunately we get to accept and tolerate whatever garbage SN shovels at us for another 12 years.
Please do not feed the bears. Feeding the bears creates a dependent population unable to survive on their own. Bears.

Thanks for the compliment...I am very tolerant and accepting. I just don't accept people being elevated to a position they so obviously don't deserve based on factors other than merit. It's not like Singh was some up and comer who had paid his dues. Singh was boring, monotone and overall not very good at PxP
He was plucked out of obscurity and put into a prime position...replacing Jack for all national and playoff games much to the dismay of the majority of fans until SN couldn't ignore the backlash anymore and was finally corrected this season
