Leafs full meltdown to start their game 5 at home. Do the opposite of those guys Oilers.

Ouff - suicide watch for a bunch of my friends in these parts.

I'm a little embarrassed that the possibility of the Oilers and Leafs in the finals crossed my mind. Leafs looked good until they choked game 3, then suddenly they turned back into the team we all know so very well.

Quite a contrast to how the Oilers handled that brutal fail with 0.4 seconds to go in game 3 vs Vegas. They only played better after that.

It looks as if we're very likely headed for four upsets in round 2, with the top 4 regular season teams and 4 division winners all being eliminated in a matter of a few days. The final four would be overall teams 5 (Dallas), 9 (Edmonton), 10 (Carolina), and 11 (Florida).

Quite turnaround from the first round when the home teams seemed to win every game.

I guess I should wait and see if any of Toronto, Washington, or Winnipeg still have a comeback in them.... (I doubt it).

I, for one, wouldn't hate seeing Florida fail. I hate those guys a lot.

I don't mind seeing Florida fall either, but game 5 was a home game for the Leafs, and arguably the most important for the franchise in the last 30 years--and they completely no-showed. Seems difficult to come back from that, but we'll see.

Matthews HAS to get a goal in a 2nd round at some point, no?

2 assists in 5 games vs Florida 2 years ago
3 assists in 5 games vs Florida this year.

Leafs fans all max coping saying he is playing good defense while complaining about Marner like Marner is the root of all evil on the team.

I get Zach Hyman vibes with Marner. In the right situation, he could flourish, however seeing that turnover last night....woof.... Leafs fans might be right about his lack of compete

I see Marner as a player that tries to do too much when hope is being lost. He's always relied on a lot by his team and coach. He's on the #1 PK, on the #1 PP, has to do all the puck carrying for breakouts and transition play. Matthews used to always get the PK off and rest while Marner was out busting his butt.

I see Matthews as much more of a wilting floater when the times get tough. Marner is always fully involved but with his team crumbling around him, being the guy stuck with the puck brings a lot of focus his way when things go bad, like an offensive Dman in Edmonton. On that giveaway (which really was a pass that went all the way to the offensive blue line, which really should not be the end fo the world), why is Marner basically alone in his zone, and 3 guys out in the neutral zone are just coasting. Matthews actually misses that pass, that could be just Marner thinking his "elite" teammate of almost a decade can pick up his pass, and just keeps on skating towards the florida zone like he didn't have a care in the world.

We wouldn't be able to afford him, but I would take him in a heartbeat. He's not super gritty, but there is no denying his skill. You can have a few guys like that on an NHL team, just so long as you have some grit to balance it out.

I had forgotten that he and Tavares were not under contract beyond this year. Wow - both walking right into free agency. I think Tavares will stay if they want him, but you have to think with all the hate spewed at him that Marner must be done with Toronto. He amazingly lived up to his lucrative contract, at least in terms of production (517 pts in 416, avg pace of 102/82GP over the 6 years of that deal)

Not sure how much more he can expect to get, but he shouldn't have a problem getting what he had on his last deal.

I will say, sometimes those big blowout wins for the other side are wake-up calls. I remember us just getting pasted by the Avs in 1998 and then the Oilers were flying the rest of that series. We've seen it go the other way too - the game 6's versus both Florida and Carolina, for example.

It certainly is possible that the Panthers just continue to roll, but complete domination is sometimes hard to maintain game-to-game.

Dallas and Jets look like they want to kill eachother.

Keep up the violence in game 6 boys! And game 7 too hopefully.

Getting horse colored then sucker punched in the face and getting a penalty for it while the ref stands there and has a buddy buddy style chat with the guy who did it would probably get most people a bit upset.

If you ever wondered who the actual most under rated player in the league is it's isn't the guy they talk about non stop in Florida. Its Scheifele.

I can't quite decide who I want to win this series. I would normally say Winnipeg but I fully expect Edmonton to roll either team in the next round and Ill probably enjoy watching them dominate Dallas more. So go stars I guess.

Enjoying the stress free hockey for another few days. Only hopes is for game 7’s and maximum pain being dished out on anyone playing :)

All these teams left showing weaknesses in a lot of different ways. Feel like we “should” be able to match up well against any of them. Only team that has dealt with near zero adversity is Carolina. Andersen is hot so far would be the main worry right now.

I had a share in Jets season tickets from 2010 to 2020. Usually went to 6 or 7 games a year. 2 things;
1. I 100% want the Stars to win. The whole bring a cup back to Canada BS means nothing to me if it isn't the Oilers. As much as I and most Oiler fans hate the Stars, I hate the Jets more. The fans were generally brutal to opposition fans during my games there. I witnessed enough bad behaviour to last a lifetime. The worst were stabbings, on two sperate occasions. Go Stars.
2. I always found Sheifele overrated. Watching him live he was seemed lazy and would check out when things didn't go his way. It was odd, because he has a carefully groomed leader persona but I often saw the opposite. My Jets fan buddy has a theory he isn't well liked by the team and blames Sheifele every time there is a locker room divide in Peg. That is mostly based on him being the only constant in the few soap opera saga's that have taken place there over the years.

Indeed, I am from Regina but it has no bearing on my dislike for the Jets and their fans. I don't pay attention to the CFL so the Bomber/Rider rivalry doesn't cloud my judgement.
I have been in a couple dozen total NHL and NFL stadiums and the Jets fans are the worst I have witnessed.

Scheifele is indeed under rated.. he's a competitor goes 100% .. great skills.. can't believe he was not on Team Canada NHL Faceoff team.

Just heard about what happened with regards to Scheifele's dad suddenly passing away hours before the game.. holy crap .. the guy must be gutted .. prayers to his family..

I wanted Winni to beat Dallas just because I like the team and its Western Canada (except for that dink Pionk).. but didn't look forward to having to hate their team if we played them..

Feel for Winni fans.

Marner sucks! Marner can't perform under pressure! Marner is evil for blocking the Rantanen trade! Launch Marner into the sun! Marner hasn't scored enough goals! I wouldn't take Marner back for a negative cap hit!

Matthews, must be injured, only explanation.

The twisted coping minds of Leafs fans because they have no choice but to be fully invested with the Matthews.

Lifetime trivia: Where were you when you saw Matthews score in the second round for the first time? That useless boy Marner steals a puck to set him up.

Stars it is. Rough finish to the game for Scheifele.

Brutal. They shouldn't score on that PP in a million years with Scheifele in the box. Too bad.

I think the Oilers will own the stars. 5 games and on to the rematch against Florida.

Nothing like watching the worst day of someone’s life live on TV.

Brutal.

Ew. Leafs no showing for their game 7. Maybe looked like they were competitive for 5 or so minutes in the first 2 periods.
