Good Lord..

Yeah I don't know why.. he doesn't play center any more from most reports.. and his wheels are not the fleetest.. and he's not really a PK'er ..

UPDATE:
Sam was Jeff Jackson's first player signing as an agent.
Also just heard that Dave Gagner's worked with, and is friends with, Jeff Jackson.

Think warm bodies for preseason. Maybe he gets a spot like demers did for emergencies. Sam might even be willing to be a mentor in the AHL for us. He did it in Bakersfield a few years ago.

PTOs are free and I'm happy to get some Oilers new. Yay content!

Yeah, I am fine with this. Costs us nothing and if it works out, great. For what it's worth, I think Gagner's a better bet than Sutter. Gagner missed a bunch of the year last year in Winnipeg, but put up 14 points in 48 games. Year before he was quite good for an awful Red Wings team with 31 points in 81 games.

Sutter, didn't play in the NHL in either of those seasons. He hasn't played most of a season since 2016-17. I would say he's a massive longshot although some of the scribes will think he brings what the team needs because he's never been good at scoring points and his last name is Sutter...

I know we are in the middle of an awesome playoff run, but it would feel wrong to not mention that Sam Gagner retired today. He was subsequently hired as the Director of the Player Development by the Senators.

Sam Gagner was one of my favourite Oilers for a long time. I was living in Columbus when he was drafted and was able to attend the draft that year. Coming off a disappointing season that saw Ryan Smyth get traded and the team implode on itself afterwards I was excited to see the Oilers at least get a top 10 pick (rare in those days for them). His started off his career with a bang getting 7 points in his first 8 games, convincing the Oilers not to send him back to juniors. He finished that year with 49 points, which would unfortunately be his best as an Oiler, and 2nd best of his career. I recall him being pretty great in the shootout that year, where the Oilers set a still standing NHL record with 15 shootout wins. Obviously his 8 point game against Chicago is the biggest highlight of his time here and of his career.

Overall he never lived up to the expectations that we had when drafting him at #7. Good luck to him in retirement.

Good for Sammy!
Character player and Oiler.
I remember during the DoD as a young player taking on the D-bag Kesler at center ice.. for a smaller skilled player he stood tall when it counted.. he's an all-time Beaut!
