Whatever we adjusted after a rough 1st period. It worked.
What a last 2 periods.
Keep it up boys! Pickard beat by a double deflection that was going wide, and a 5-hole snipe by maybe the best shooter on Vegas. No complaints, kept us close, gave the team time to adjust and we got the win.

Don’t know if Knoblauch designed the game that way as a bit of a chess match but pretty tidy road game. Can’t understate how much more I like starting the series with a lead…

Man - loving me some Brown! He’s been all over the place.
And how about that assist by Kane? Did he work on his passing while he was out the last year?
And Pickard - zero blame on the first goal. Nobody is stopping that. And the second one, Mark Stone from point blank? Stoppable sure, but that’s a goal on most goalies in the league from that guy in that spot. 5-0 baby!

Some good games out there.. Klingburglar with the saucy passes.. mobile.. routinely moved the puck quickly up to forwards..
Perry.. another beauty goal..
Brown finally ca$hes in on his chances..
Guys were all putting in a solid effort to keep the puck in front of them..
Pickard solid again.. he's now 5-0

Our grinders were laying some big hits on their D. Hyman is a hitting machine now when he's off the top line. Dallas Eakins would be very mad at the play of our depth guys.

Had to endure the ESPN feed watching and what a bunch of home team fanboys...
A scrappy first period, two ugly goals against, but towards the end we started to grab the game, that goal by Perry was huge in the context of the game. On the eye for a while Draisaitl looked off his game, I still don't think he's close to full fitness, but he's contributing. Unlike other years when he's been banged up though we've got scoring from others which is helping.
I thought Klingberg was huge at the back, composed and assured and starting to skate as well. Even when he slipped he managed to get the puck away from danger. Not sure why we start with Nurse and Bouch together, we never end the game with them as a pair.
A road win though, that's huge I've been thinking the series in 7, but now we have to regroup and go again on Thursday.
Take me home, country road

Price inching back to 11M is the unfortunate part of this.

I have to give a shout out to all our guys. Getting down 2 - 0 early and instead of turtling and falling apart they step it up pushed hard and looked dominate against the Knights through most of the game.
And yeah Connor Brown deserves a little bit extra love. He can really skate he can score but more then anything he really works out there. He is one of those kind of players that never takes a shift off.

Pickard has crawled into the Top Ten in Playoff GAA.
If this line-up can find a way to stay relatively healthy, I might become optimistic again. Win or lose on Thursday, the atmosphere for Game 3 on Saturday night should be amazing!

We looked pretty dopey in the first, but total domination in the 2nd and 3rd. We didn't give them anything. They got 7 shots on goal in 2 periods (just 1 in the second). 3 of those were on their underserved PP. That idiotic call on Brown. Pickard came up huge on a at least one of those. But that's it. 4 EV shots on goal in 2 full periods. We got 18 over the same stretch
I wasn't a fan of the Perry, Brown, and Klingberg signings, but thrilled to be wrong on all 3. I don't want to overstate their contributions, but I thought all 3 looked great, even beyond the goals scored. Brown's 2 way play was elite. Perry is just a smart and skilled hockey player. And Klingberg - the man can move the puck. Both with his skating and his passing - we all know he's not Larry Robinson in his own end, but his poise and skill allows us to get out of zone with speed and most importantly possession. Hope they keep it up.

Really well executed game after a bit of a sluggish start. And even the second half of the first period I felt like the Oilers were putting on a master class in shot suppression. Vegas had most of their shots in the first half of that period. Hopefully we can keep that up in Game 2.
I would still love for a few games of .900 goaltending, but Pickard was good enough in this one, and if we can keep the shot count against low while dominating puck possession, we're in a good spot.

To me, the first wasn't all that bad, the Oil matched Vegas tempo to tempo, just the plays weren't getting there.
I ended the first thinking, keep the tempo, but just a tad bit of a tweak and the goals were going to come.
Fortunately the Oilers found the right thing to tweak because how Conner of Brown to make that wonderful deke for that 4th goal.
Perry, that tic tac toe play to score the first was a thing of brilliance! What a great play.
Podco, keep up the hitting, I wasn't terribly thrilled with Nuge's game after 40 minutes, but the last 20 he was a defensive beast.
..and while we are all happy about the win. The war isn't over just this battle. tomorrows game continues the war. It's going to be hard fought. Enjoy each vicotry like it's the last. Put on a work-like attitude to each game and remain focused.
According to G2K 11 more victories to go.
The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.
Generally Disappointed.

Getting better as games/series go on is a very welcome theme with this team. We did it last year as well in pretty much all our series. The most extreme example I think was vs Dallas last year who were an extreme good team, but we just started to shut them down to take 3 games in a row to finish it. Can argue the Kings this year too, but the Kings were not nearly as good and shot themselves in the foot in a number of ways too.
This is all the total opposite of the last time we played Vegas, as they exposed our poor game plan more and more as things went on. Really hope we keep this up.

That was a tough one to try to get 0.900 on. Stone scores with a wide already deflected shot off his foot, and then we let Stone pick his spot uncontested right in the slot 15 ft out from Pickard. That was all the stuff let in, and we didn't let Pickard see enough low quality shots to pad the stats. Refs tried to help with a clownish penalty, and Pickard had to make a couple big saves. Bummer, but can see what happens in the next one.
Silver lining, we are up against a .876 goalie right now :)

Forgot to mention - Pickard is currently the wins leader these playoffs with 5.
Pickard's .891 is not super. His 2.76GA is pretty good. Certainly miles better than Skinner and his .810 / 6.11GA
Just looking at the goalie stats it was interesting to see likely Vezina winner Connor Hellebuyck just ahead of Skinner with an .830% and 3.85GA. Made me curious, so I went to check his career playoff stats - the narrative lately is that he sucks in the playoffs, but that does not seem to have always been the case
17-18: .922, 2.36
18-19: .913, 2.67
19-20: .904, 3.04
20-21: .931, 2.23
22-23: .886. 3.44
23-24: .870, 5.23
24-25: .830, 3.85
I think he's as good a candidate as any to go supernova like Bobrovsky did against us those first 3 games last year.

The
20-21: .931, 2.23
was courtesy of us :) I would delete it from the data as an outlier. Swept by Montreal after sweeping us.
If you take out the weird Canadian division year, the trend line is down down down down down every playoffs. Keep in mind Helle and the Jets are putting up spectacular regular season performances in lots of these years they bomb in the first round.
It's probably a case of expectations rising and rising for the Jets, and then they had some stinker playoff performances with him being a big part of it. Got to the conference finals his first playoffs and he played well. But then next year, first round exit, then again the next year and his play fell off. The next season he spanked us, but then swept by Montreal.
Then the really weak performances came, another 1st round exit, and then they they do it again last year. And then they were on the edge of doing it yet again against St. Louis with him playing extra brutal in a bunch of the games. Needed a break to finally break the cycle and maybe finally got the first step of doing it now with that insane comeback. Will be curious to see how Helle plays in the 2nd round.

Well said. This team usually struggles to put together three full periods but overall was excellent

How about the 3rd assist for Klingberg on the GWG? Zipped it up to RNH, right on the tape. That was awesome.
