The @EdmontonOilers morning skate:
Draisaitl-McDavid-Hyman
Podkolzin-RNH-Arvidsson
Kane-Henrique-Brown
Frederic-Janmark-Perry
Skinner/Jones-Ryan-Kapanen
D rotating:
Klingberg-Bouchard
Nurse-Emberson
Kulak-Walman
Brown-Stecher
Pickard
Skinner
Jeez, Walman 3rd pair now? Klingberg 1st pair. I know people didn't like his cap hit, but watched Fowler play like an all situation top pair D last night, which he's done since the second he joined the Blues, basically saving their season. Lames are in the playoffs instead without that add.
A 2nd round pick for a 1st pair D at $4M with 1 more year left on his contract. Blues just robbing teams this season. Walman who costed a 1st is getting crushed so far in his first real playoff experience.
Oh well though, we're used to just wasting McDavid and Drai's careers.

Feel terrible for Jeff Skinner.
Signs with us to get into his first playoff action, does a pretty good job scoring goals with limited minutes, only to be scratched immediately after his first game. Meanwhile playing a guy on a bum ankle.
Brutal.
Clean house or bust

Some Ek news.
Jason Gregor @JasonGregor
Update on Ekholm. He has responded well. And now there is a chance he could return LATER in playoffs. Not this round. Unlikely in second round but then… maybe.

Of course, this is taking the opinions of Oilers doctors here. What is the chance he could return later in the playoffs AND keep playing after that first few shifts back?

That would be a heartbreaker for many fans. Really hope they are handling his injury well.

The determination of whether a player is ready to play is based primarily on the feedback from the player during stress testing.. both in physio and on the ice.. than anything a doctor could ever glean on his own.. no imaging is going to tell you the injury is completely healed and zero risk of re-injury.. imaging has definite limitations .. all it can do is tell you is if there is visible damage that hasn't healed.. no doctor would allow a guy out if that were the case.. and no player would attempt to play if told that..
The problems occur when the player feels and tests normal during testing.. the imaging doesn't indicate any damage.. and then the player comes back to play.. over stresses it during a game and gets re-injured..
The re-injury is like the failure of any material .. the result of being loaded over its maximum strength.. and/or repeated low level stress cycles incrementally causing minor failures.. damage is unnoticed.. that eventually accumulate over time to ultimately cause a major failure (injury)
There is no medical magical wand that can tell you when you can play at full speed and be risk free of re-injury.. the most prudent course of action is to double the expected recovery time and then you have a lesser chance of re-injury.. that's what we would do.. but a pro-athlete will want to cut that to the absolute minimum.. especially in the playoffs.. .. hence the problema

Probably an unpopular opinion because we have a past with injury recoveries, a team management group that’s been inept since forever, but I’m not against our medical group.
McDavid, the most important player in the league has his own doctor. I’d hope everyone on that team does too. Not slighting the medical staff, but if you have a knee issue you find a knee specialist. You have a back injury you find a back doctor.
The team does not have specialists. They have MD’s and we’ve seen evidence that they are receptive to outside opinions from specialists. We’ve had no Eichel experiences and the Souray stuff was years ago. There is no factual evidence that the team doesn’t have adequate medical staff. The human body responds differently with each person. Ekholm is in good hands, his injury and recovery will be his own.

Makes sense. So then hopes and prayers Ekholm and his team have figured out his recovery this time. Would hate to see him back early and do something that not only takes him out again but ends up messing up his next season too.

There is word this morning Rob Blake and the LA Kings have mutually agreed to part ways.
