Skookum Jim wrote on Sat, 26 April 2025 15:00 | Question: I was watching the Minni vs. VGK game today.. its in in Minni .. I saw a Canadian Tire logo on the ice.. I didn't think they can CGI the in ice logos.. just the boards.. Do they have Canadian Tire in the US?
Answer: Yes they can CGI logos on the ice surface. :)
|
The logos between the blue lines and behind the goal line are real. I was surprised to see a real NDAX logo in Crypto.com Arena but got over it pretty quickly. The logo inside the blue lines are superimposed.
I've found now that they've kind of figured out how to do the CGI boards better than when they were first introduced they've started pushing the boundaries and it has somehow gotten more distracting.
|
Do you mean between the blue lines as in the center-ice area? .. this one was definitely outside the blue line.. between the blue and center ice.. that's what threw me.. I checked again the next period and the logo had changed to something else.. looked pretty real.

Yikes. Jets in full meltdown mode in this game. Helly in pumpkin mode (his usual playoff mode outside of a series against us) and skaters looking clueless.

Speaking of VGK .. want to see why they have the lowest penalties in the league.. look at this in game 4 vs Minni.. Hertl tackles Hartman .. arms wrapped around him.. hauls him down.. and puck goes in off of him.. no call.. looks like Minni isn't considered a first-tier NHL franchise either in the eyes of NHL Corp.. or at least compared to Vegas.

Not to be outdone the leagues most over rated player Barkov good to go against Tampa last night. Of course. Same thing he tried to pull against Draisaitl in the playoffs last year.
And Ekblad is back too. Up to his old tricks after a few months off to "train". Remember when bonds came back and fans threw empty syringes on the field? lol

Ekblad just doubled down and got together with his "trainer" for an extended PED cycle. I bet the NHL doesn't even re-test a guy when he comes back off PED suspension.
Speaking of Ekblad.. did he even get an in person hearing for his KO of Hagel last night? Fore arm shiver right to Hagel's head.. direct target.. knocked him wobbly.. missed the game.. should be minimum two games.. seems like Florida is immune to league discipline..
Update.. he gets a phone call hearing..

Saw that Ekblad cheap shot. In true NHL fashion not only did the refs not see or just ignore it, but Ekblad, who should have been ejected from the game, ends up scoring the tying goal leading to a late game comeback win.
League just insists on being a joke every other day.

On the sportsnet cast in the link.. Friedman actually for once in his life gets the fence pole out of his ass and actually calls the ref out for looking right at it and refusing to make the call.. wonders never cease.
On that note.. have to say DeBrusk is getting more pathetic.. he's so eager for the jump to main stream USA TV broadcasts that he's going full retard on his refusal to criticize refs..

That is just insane. I know that you can't challenge a goal based upon an infraction leading up to the goal that is missed, but how in the world do you let that go for that long as a ref? Hertl wasn't ever pretending to play hockey at that point.

Doesn't the league have some leeway to suspend someone until the end of a specific series? When you are doing targetted retribution trying to concuss guys with elbows to the face, I feel like that should be it for you for that series. But instead his return would be perfectly timed if Tampa manages to force game 7.

Agreed. 2 years ago, there's no way Pietrangelo should have been allowed to play again in the Vegas-Oilers series. League supplemental discipline is an absolutely embarrassing joke.

Yep was just about to post about that exact play. And that coward peter Angelo came right out and said that he did it as retribution because the oilers were being mean to him. Could you imagine if Evander Kane made that play in that situation on that caliber of player? He'd still be suspended.
By the way if you think the officiating is god awful against LA (and it is).. Assuming they advance guess who's next..

It's hilarious that PeterAngelo whining about what we did to him seemed to actually help his case for a blatant attempt to injure play.
Wonder what Kane would get if he skated across the ice next game and did a 2 hand overhead lumberjack chop on Clarke's arm after a whistle. Would telling Parros that he did it because Clarke hit him into the net last game help Kane's case?

Yeah, maybe that's a more accurate comparison.
Kane is mad about what Clarke did, so he goes out and 2 hand lumberjacks Kempe's arm 5 seconds after a whistle.
Explains to Parros that he did it to Kempe because he was really mad about what Kings players like Clarke did to him.

Sure definitely. But wouldn't want to give the kings an advantage so a game for 'Mikey' Anderson too just because.
There's no team I want the oilers to beat more than Vegas and no team that they are going to have a tougher time against - not because I think they're that much better but they are going to get every call imaginable. I wonder what the over under would be on rules that they make up or change mid series?

So I've re-watched video of the Ekblad hit a couple dozen times from various angles. I have a bit more sympathy for the ref right in front of the play. He's about even with Ekblad on the left side of his body. Ekblad carries his right elbow/forearm into Hagel; but from the ref's angle, he would NOT have seen the "forearm shiv". He could justifiably have thought it was a body-body hit. The linesman behind Ekblad, on the other hand, had a pretty unobstructed view of the blatant attempt to injure. In my estimation, it was incumbent on the linesman to indicate to the ref a possible match penalty on the play. It is at least possible (giving the linesman the benefit of the doubt) that he thought the ref had an unobstructed view of the infraction and decided not to call it - hence the linesman didn't feel it his place to "overrule" the ref.
It's still an obviously missed call - but I think the primary blame may lie with the linesman, not the ref, in this case.

Linesmen speak up all the time.. help the refs out when they blow a call.. and he a had full view.. the remaining linesmen in the playoffs are supposedly the best of the best.. failure on his part.. but even if you give one ref the benefit of the doubt .. where was the other ref.. and other linesmen ?? ... they couldn't of ALL had an obstructed view.. NHL needs to call stuff like that from the control room when refs blow obvious calls... especially the dangerous ones.. while they're at it.. call down the hand-on-puck-in-crease penalties that are missed!

Add to the crazy trivia list
B/R Open Ice @BR_OpenIce
A WILD stat: in his 3 Art Ross seasons, Nikita Kucherov has scored 0 playoff goals.
2019: Swept by Columbus | 2 assists, 0 goals
2024: Lost to Florida in 5 | 7 assists, 0 goals
2025: Lost to Florida in 5 | 4 assists, 0 goals
Scored a goal in all 8 other playoff years he played.
Kuch best in playoffs when he spends 1-2 months before playoffs pretending he's still injured (20/21) or just doing nothing (delay before 19/20 Covid year playoffs).
