I was thinking this weekend, that really Knoblauch should be saying casually that we know the last three years that the Kings have generally resorted to a lot of dirty plays, trying to injure and slow down our best players, and trusting that in the playoffs the referees are going to put away their whistles. We have full confidence in the officiating that they're not going to fall for that though...

I mean, simple enough. Doesn't get you fined or suspended, and puts the Kings on notice. It probably is enough to get a soundbite. We've for too long had coaches who just seem to think they're above any sort of gamesmanship. It's irritating.

Ironic. I don't remember which Kings player it was, but early on in the 5-0 loss last week, one of them did exactly this with Bouchard's stick, and the refs awarded the Kings a powerplay, which they ended up scoring off shortly after the PP expired.

I miss having a guy like Glen Sather at the helm. Not specifically him, he's pretty ancient now, but through all his time here he was always a master at positioning the team for success. He'd call out things if they needed to be called out. He'd go in to conversations with the media with a purpose, not just simply to answer the questions they were going to ask.

He'd find a way in to the soundbites here, and have the refs thinking that they better be watching the Kings in this one.

It would be nice to see that, rather than a bunch of vanilla from coaches terrified of stepping on anyone's toes.

That's an understatement. Have you ever listened to these guys (NHL refs) try to speak? I guarantee they could be Jedi mind tricked by an 8 year old. Expect some holding the stick calls tonight.

All the playoff games I've seen so far the teams come out hitting everything that moves for the first period.. Oil need to withstand the onslaught.. dish out soem of there own.. just turn into human missliles every fore check.. make 'em hear footsteps..
St. Louis had 46 hits on Winnipeg in the 1st period alone!

We'll see who on the Oil are made of what in this game..
