It's last game of the season, they are in the playoffs. The season is over.
I'm derailing this thread but the thoughts I have are this:
I'm worried about the playoffs. Gregor and others have piped up saying that the Oilers are deeply skilled team and they will go deep again this year but I'm looking at this lineup and I'm like... I think that might be an over estimation, I'm a realist..
We really do miss Holloway.
I don't think we miss Broberg as much.
The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.
Generally Disappointed.

We miss players that haven't played the whole year as if they are expecting our team to completely fail to live up to the hype.
This has been one of the most disappointing seasons to watch that i can remember. Very few players on this team looked like they had fun this season. Thank goodness for an insane year from Drai or we would have just missed the playoffs all together.

Sometimes adversity is a good thing. It takes away any over-confidence and maybe focuses the team a little more. They clearly only cared this year about what they lost last year. Now they finally have a chance to go get it.
So long as the goaltending holds...

I hope that switch flips in a few days, and doesn't require the biggest form of dealing with adversity in a season for guys to finally get their heads straight again.

I've been waiting for this switch to flip since December really. Bouchard has worried me consistently, S Skinner has been anything but his old self and J Skinner never really materialized into something he should have been (although his play lately give a glimmer of hope),
The real bright light this season? Corey Perry. Old man strength indeed, he;s bested younger players on this team.
16 wins... oof that is a taller order than last season. Worry - worry.
Lol Adam.. on the Neal quip.

I don't entirely disagree, but the positive side rebuttal would be they've known they would be in this position for a good month now. There's been no real reason to play their A game and burn out trying to get home ice for round 1 game 7 when they can probably beat the Kings in six anyway. So why not go to the playoffs with their skill players being as healthy as possible and well rested? I think McDavid, Drai, Bouch, Nurse, Skinner, Walman, and maybe Hymen should all be ready for game 1. The only real loss is Ekholm.
Gregor sold his soul for access. I don't blame him for that decision but I no longer put much stock into what he says.

Is McDavid playing? I'd love to see him get his 100th point. If he does, he moves in to a tie with Marcel Dionne for the third most seasons with 100 at eight. Only Lemieux (10) and Gretzky (15) have more. If not for Covid, he probably has 1 more as he was only 3 points back when the season was cancelled. And as everyone knows you can only prorate points for James Neal.

Hopefully he plays for the 2 shifts he needs to score and gets the Byfield treatment.
Kind of wild they have a one game trip to California to end the season. The new schedule making program isn't great.

If you need a reason to think the result from this game matters, here's a couple for you:
1) Oilers need a point to get to 100 on the season. Always a nice milestone, even in the bloated Bettman point era.
2) A win could potentially be the difference between finishing ahead of both Florida and Carolina--which of course would only matter if they met either team in the Stanley Cup Final. But come on what are the chances the Oilers would every play the Hurricanes or Panthers in a Stanley Cup Final.....
