I don't know.. it sounds like he's a defensive defenceman.. but only 5'-11" - 170lbs ??
https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/478646/damien-carfagna
(Scratch that.. Ohio website says he's now 6'-0" 185lbs..)
Unless he can skate like Q. Hughes.. ?
I'm assuming somebody on the Oilers staff knows something..
From his draft year
Quote: | Defence is Carfagna’s dimension, ensuring attackers have no room to breathe when he’s on the ice.
Non-stop scanning and on-the-hip positioning allows him to outright eliminate players.
In transition, he keeps his gaps tight, drives plays to the perimeter, then swings across and gets the break up.
|
Some Highlights from a game vs. Mich State .. He's #93.. looks very mobile at NCAA level.. positive sign

Game vs. Lake Superior

I have seen Carfagna 7 times. 5 of those this season.
He is a smaller D who can really carry the puck and pass it.
His most recent game that I watched was against BU in the NCAAs where his team lost 8-3. He was +1 and only plus on the team. He was not sheltered.

The guy I'm worried about is Munzenburger.. guy is done NCAA and hasn't been signed yet.. pulling a Marino? He doesn't have the stats or pedigree.. but who knows.. agents are always scheming..

Here's a listing of the top Euro free agents available for signing to NHL clubs..
https://www.mckeenshockey.com/nhl-blog/nhl-2025-european-fre e-agent-frenzy-26-players-nhl-franchise-season/
Worth reviewing to see the potential signings that Stauffer has been alluding to the last week or so..
Josh Samanski is listed, as well as David Tomasek, who were both just signed.
Quote: | David Tomasek (CZE) - C - 29 - 6-foot-2, 187 pounds - SHL
He led the Swedish SHL in regular season scoring last season with 25 goals and 45 points, albeit in 52 games. He had piqued interest. We know that teams were looking at him and he was in heavy consideration.
Then he flopped with just one point in a horrific first round sweep in which his first-place club lost to the eighth seed. After that, he showed up at the Men’s WC for Czechia and was quite ok, going 1-3-4 and +3 in 10 games. He didn’t get signed by an NHL team.
There were other interested parties around Europe, but Tomasek seemed to believe that he was already in the best place for his progress in Färjestad and this season has done nothing but back that up. At the moment, he’s leading the SHL - a league whose top scorer is often clipping at less than a PPG pace - with 57 points in 47 games.
His team is gearing up for a long playoff run and yes, we know he’s getting some serious attention, despite his age. Tomasek has another year on his SHL contract but there’s an out clause should the NHL come knocking.
|
Quote: | Josh Samanski (GER/CAN) - C/LW - 22 - 6-foot-6, 190 pounds - DEL
Former OHLer and 2-time WJC contestant Samanski is a player we continue to keep our sites on and this season, it hasn’t been hard to do as he’s been pure eye candy for his Straubing Tigers. We already thought he’d be a player the NHL would take into consideration last summer after he arrived as a bonafide middle six forward at the ripe age of 21.
Now he’s taken things to a whole new level. A very big boy who uses his size well to gain, protect, and battle for pucks, Samanski has done nothing but show continual bursts of speed, silky mitts, and a keen sense of creating and finishing all season long.
Yes, he’s got a contract with DEL powerhouse Berlin next season, but if he continues on this pace, he’ll be putting up numbers we haven’t really seen from a youngster his age since Dominik Kahun earned himself an NHL contract. And Kahun was older and smaller when he did. Wearing an A on his jersey, Samanski already has a career high 40 points in 52 games as his team holds the prime spot for the upcoming wild card round.
At this rate, you shouldn’t be surprised to see him suiting up for Team Germany at the upcoming Worlds either.
SIDENOTE: His younger brother Noah is currently playing for the Powell River Kings in the BCHL.

Rumour has it the Oilers will sign Quin Hutson from BU NCAA
Quote: | Cam Robinson@Hockey_Robinson
I'm told that Quinn Hutson - the eldest Hutson brother, will sign a 2 year ELC with the Edmonton Oilers after tonight's NCAA National Championship game.
He'll report directly to EDM and will instantly burn a year off the deal, making him an RFA at the end of the 2025-26 season.

Hutson was the top scorer on BU this year.
38 games, 23G + 27A = 50 pts.
Age 23
Plays RW
5'-11 at 170 lbs
https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/201721/quinn-hutson
His younger brother is Lane Hutson on Montreal.. contending for Calder this year (plays D)
Another brother Cole plays with Quinn on BU as well.. he's on D and was 2nd to team scoring.
Quinn is the tallest Hutson.. rest are 5'-10"
Their Dad grew up in Edmonton.
Great signing.
I guess when you have few prospects in the pipeline it looks attractive for getting an opportunity.
BTW.. I watched the BU game vs Western Mich today.. LaChance looked so s lo w.. IMHO his trade will be no loss to Oilers.. and Caponi did not look promising.. However.. the Hutson kid.. :)
