I'm told that Quinn Hutson - the eldest Hutson brother, will sign a 2 year ELC with the Edmonton Oilers after tonight's NCAA National Championship game.
He'll report directly to EDM and will instantly burn a year off the deal, making him an RFA at the end of the 2025-26 season.

Quinn Hutson is an unbelievable signing by the Oilers. I saw him 83 times. A little on the small side as a winger. I’d have modest question on his ability on the walls against pros.
That said he’s a very fast paced player who’s an excellent passer with a pro level shot.
...
He has very good defensive instincts and his desire to be responsible is good.
If you think of a player in Oiler lore, it would be lower ceiling Jordan Eberle. High puck sense, great hands and a give and go style of play.
He should play for the Oilers this week.

Choosing to bring him in right away and burn an RFA year is interesting. I dont know much about him but it does give me concern that the Oilers are more worried than publicly said about the health of Drai, Hyman and Kane.

Giving these college kids and their agents whatever they want seems to be a prerequisite to getting the bigger names among them. Fast track to RFA. All the ELC bonuses. Can probably thank his brother for the extra hype.
Hope he is useful. Need all the help we can get.

Less worried about the RFA year being burned and more just hoping that he will be good enough that we actually care about that later.

Excellent point, never crossed my mind that it was a negotiation tool.
