Kings shutout... -4 to AVS
...that's a positive, isn't it?

Give Rodrigue the start against Calgary. Let’s see what he has.

.. starting to come into view what the Oilers really are without their top 3 guys.. hopefully management is realizing all the holes they still have to fill.

Forwards are just not a threat to score..

The one bright spot has been J. Skinner the last few games.. his compete level is much better.. has had created good chances... also RNH has got his feet moving again playing center.. handling the puck.. creating plays.. he's taken on more responsibility.. instead of being a McDavid spectator all game.

The power play was the worst I've seen of any team this season.. without 97 & 29 its a sad sight.
Goaltending remains below average.. Rodrigue probably won't even be re-signed at the end of this season.. goaltending depth is zero at the moment.. only hope in the pipeline now for goal could maybe be that Jonsson kid in the Swedish AHL.. but that's like 2 years away.

Need to get healthy badly or this season is over

If we fall to a wildcard, we play Winnipeg or Vegas first round and will get smoked

If Vancouver or Calgary catch the Oilers they aren't making the playoffs. Fortunately, I don't think either can. Vancouver is 7 back with 10 to play, Calgary 8 with 11. It's LA or bust.

Kind of crazy we'll get to watch the Sharks 3 times the rest of the way.

Good news! Even the McDavid & Draisaitl-less version of the team can probably beat the Sharks 2/3 times!

Knocking on wood now of course, but the Sharks are bad. We should beat them with a skeleton crew.

As for last night, I'm just going to ignore it ever happened.

I remember when Jackson arrived and made all those signings keeping all the vets and adding Arvidsson and J. Skinner.. I thought wow! this guy is gold! .. didn't realize it meant losing Broberg and Holloway (and probably neither did he.. which is his failing) .. even then Bowman could have kept them by matching.. just meant unloading some guys.. a very hard task.. but doable.. then they have to use a first rounder to get Walman to fill a hole that Broberg would likely have filled.

.. Now imagine what you'd have to trade back to get either of Holloway or Broberg.. a first round plus and a good player.. minimum.. Holloway with 2 more goals last night.. in 71 games he's at 26G + 36A = 62pts and a healthy +20 .. he's second in scoring on St. Louis.. he's going to be a star.. in only 61 games Broberg with 8G + 19A = 27 pts with top +- on team at +21 ..

Holloway has same goals as McDavid.. he'd be 3rd in scoring on the Oilers.. and his +- would be 2nd best on the Oilers.. faint

The handling of both Broberg and Holloway.. and the decision making on those offer sheets.. has to be one the Oilers biggest historical blunders.. not sure how they recover from it in the off season..

First thing is write McDavid a blank cheque and hope he signs it.. take it from there.

More than those 2 guys it seems basically everyone we discarded is having the time of their life somewhere else.

For me, basically from the start of the year this looks like a team being crushed by the expectations they have of them after the game 7 fail. Fastest way to separate yourself from that pressure was obviously to start fresh somewhere else. Staying here, sadly, an embarrassing playoff exit might be the easiest reset or even missing the playoffs. Just not feeling it from this team this season. No coach change to spark them is coming. Not even sure keeping any of the guys we let go would have helped all that much. None of them are actual world beaters and could be sucked into the same vortex of fragility that surrounds this group this year.

Hope I’m wrong but starting to think these guys need a major reset mentally. One that comes like when Tama got swept by the Bluejackets in the first round. Barely anyone on this team looks like they are enjoying themselves this season, even when we are winning. Oh. And we probably should finally take the goaltending position seriously in this org again. Would help a lot.

I think sometimes some adversity is a good thing for a team who people see as a contender or favourite. Even Florida last year looked for a while as a shadow of the team that went to the Finals the year before.

That said, our goaltending really worries me. And that's when everyone is healthy...

We have had an odd season. I think just chronic underperforming has been a theme all year long. A weak division and general parity let us be in most games and Drai being lights out was enough to put us over a lot of nights.

Florida last year I thought put a lot of focus on staying healthy and prepping their team for playoffs after injuries derailed their shot at a cup the year before. They pulled it off well. Won their division. Best goal differential in the league and they were pretty efficient at finishing teams off to have their healthy roster for the finals. They almost had an epic choke but being healthy helped them take it in the end. I hoped we would be doing the same this year but this season has been a painful struggle from game 1 and barely anyone has looked like themselves on this roster at any point this season.
