“Ultimately, I made a mistake by taking something to help me recover from recent injuries without first checking with proper medical and team personnel,” Ekblad said. "I have let my teammates, the Panthers organization and our great fans down. For that, I am truly sorry. I have accepted responsibility for my mistake and will be fully prepared to return to my team when my suspension is over. I have learned a hard lesson and cannot wait to be back with my teammates.”
EDIT:
Last player to be suspended, Nate Schmidt in 2018 on Las Vegas. S
Where is Schmidt now? Florida with Ekblad.
When did Florida know? We don't know, but they picked up Seth Jones at the trade deadline.

Miracle the NHL actually caught someone, must have been a fluke. The fact the last guy was Schmidt 7 years ago tells you the NHL isn't trying very hard.. or takes it's testing seriously.. there's a lot of guys doing it.. when ever multi-million dollar contracts are up for grabs there will be PEDs involved.. even age-group amateur athletes take them .. for meaningless trophies and accolades.
NHL knows that its ripe with PEDs.. but don't want to spoil the "brand" .. i.e. the miraculous "age-less" Great 8 lol !
Oh, and Ekblad with the classic excuse.. lol .. "I took it to help recover from an injury" (because it has a better ring than the real reason.. performance enhancement) .. its the same tactic used when celebrities, or pro athletes, get caught for drug possession.. "I got addicted while taking prescription drugs for pain/illness" .. "wasn't my fault.. it just happened"
Its the first lesson in "Spin Doctoring 101"
Ekblad took it for performance enhancement, they all do.
Cheating other players, and teams for a contract or trophy..
Ekblad has most certainly been on them for a while, including last years playoffs.. he should be removed for the entire playoffs not just 20 games.. his entire season is tainted.. so is his team's.
In the Olympics in a team sport.. if team member pops for PEDs .. the entire team loses its medal/standing.. should be more consequence than just to the individual player in the NHL.. the team benefited from his PE for 75% of the season..
My Opinion..
NEW RULE: When a player pops for PEDs like Ekblad.. his entire team should be then tested en masse .. to ensure "player safety" of course.. ;)
