Seattle and Detroit are both retaining 50% on Gourde in order to make it all happen.

#LGRW are getting a 2025 4th Round Pick for facilitating. Kyle Aucoin is going from Detroit to Tampa to complete the deal.

Wow, Tampa really loves to pay out the nose for their deadline adds. Gourde having an off year, and pending UFA. Probably a more useful player than Jeannot was at least.

If that's the market.. I don't expect the oilers to do very much.. no assets left..

Wonder if that is part of why Tampa goes so hard. Trying to elevate the market to embolden teams trying to move UFA's to make their rivals throw the towel in. Not sure it really ever would work though. Teams selling still want something for their players and strange overpays are pretty obvious.

They know the player well though. Former Bolt.

Bjorkstrand is the bigger fish here. Close to 60 points in two of the last three seasons. A little off the pace this year but on a struggling Seattle team.

Both pretty decent players that'll help their roster going in to the post-season.

Ah yeah, I'm not respecting the Bjorkstrand, and he has a year left on his deal. Definitely a better move than their Jeannot debacle.

Sharks acquire defenseman Vincent Desharnais from the Penguins for a 2028 fifth-round pick. Desharnais has played with Vancouver and Pittsburgh this season. The 6-foot-7 blueliner appeared in 78 regular-season games with Edmonton last season and 16 playoff matchups.

Big Vinnie's had a tough time finding a home this season. Now he can fill Ceci's old spot on the Sharks!

Kinda neat seeing 2/3 of our RHD for a few playoff runs on the Sharks. I assume this will help them work towards being contenders like us.

From Staples,

Good to hear they aren't grasping at straws.. fingers crossed!

As for the d-man market, NHL insider Frank Seravalli said on the Kevin Karius show today on Sports Radio 1440 that d-man Carson Soucy of Vancouver might make sense for the Oilers, but he can’t see Vancouver trading him to division rival Edmonton, with Soucy needing some salary retention as well.

“So it would be nice to have (Soucy) the Irma native, but I don’t think that’s going to make sense or ultimately come to pass.

I was told that it was a pretty quiet day in the Edmonton Oilers offices yesterday, that they were sifting through some options but nothing that really stood out and nothing that made them busy or gave them something to think about. So they’re still processing, operating under dual tracks of: Are we spending this Evander Kane money? And the other side: are we not?”

Soucy is dead last on the Canucks by basically every analytics measure. Do we like him because he crosschecked McDavid in the mouth last playoffs?

That would check out. We do seem to have a long memory for who got a lick in on McDavid. Most teams take a number and try to get revenge - the Oilers rather try to acquire them no matter how crappy they are as a player (or even as a person - see Manning & Virtanen).

Yeah I agree, I watch Soucy when he plays because I remember there was talk a while back of the Oilers targeting him before he went to Canucks.. and I'm always glad he wound up in Van..

And some Positive (+) news..

Quote:

Ryan Rishaug@TSNRyanRishaug

My understanding is Kane hasn’t put back to back days of intense workouts together, and as the deadline draws near it’s perhaps becoming more apparent that a return at playoff time is more likely.. with that said they’ll be careful here, but my sense is we could see them with more space to work with than previously thought.

FYI.. Bob's buxom dream girl mentioning 1) Saros .. 2) Kovacevic (LD) and 3) Nemec (RD) both from NJD ..

and that Oil are out from Rantanen talks.. which I think is prudent.. the only way Oil can get Rantanen is if he signs as a UFA this summer.. no assets to sell.

He is only a -1 on the Sharks this season. Sounds pretty solid to me.

Jets pick up B Tanev and L Schenn.
Leafs pick up Laughton
Sabres get Norris and Bernard-Docker in exhange for Cozens and Gilbert. (Weird trade to me. This is what is wrong with Sabres. As soon as good young player hits first hurdle, they panic and trade said player for magic beans.)
Beauvillier headed to Washington.

Sabres were the weirdest for sure.

They re-signed Zucker, who's injury prone and old and could have got them a good asset. Then they deal Cozens (a 24 year old two seasons removed from a 31 G, 68 pt season) for Norris - another perpetual bandaid. Norris has also had one pretty solid season a few years ago but since then he's missed over 100 games with injuries. And somehow Ottawa gets them to throw in a 2nd round pick too!

There are definite drawbacks to promoting your Waterboy to the GM post...

Rantanen to Dallas for Stankoven and two 1st rounders.

Apparently there's more pieces to this and the Stars are close to an extension with Rantanen.

Unusual to see a top flight team like Carolina become a seller.

Watch Tulsky flip at least one of those two firsts.

Wonder if Vegas struck out on Rantanen and are kinda stuck now. Would be nice to see them not fill up their LTIR space for once.

ah, didn't see the deadline passed, so maybe that's it!

Sounds like Marchand is going to Florida…

Another year where it looks like the Oilers are allergic to big swings (yet still gave away a lot of assets).

Wow, Tkachuk going from day to day injury status to "we hope he will be back for playoffs" LTIR sure worked out

Shea Weber on the move!

Brennan Klak @nhlupdate
#UtahHC trades Shea Weber's contract, Victor Soderstrom's rights, and Aku Raty to #Blackhawks for a 2026 5th round pick.

His contract at least

They are never shy about filling their LTIR space, so they may have just struck out on a big fish like Rantanen and didn't have time to do anything else. Pretty good for us.

From Kurt Leavins.. so close.. Fk...faint

Quote:

Brian Lawton on 880 CHED said to Host Bob Stauffer that the Oilers made a serious offer for Carolina’s Mikko Rantanen and were “very aggressive”. Rantanen ultimately was traded to and signed with Dallas.

They were distracted by the wrong guy then. I would have preferred them make the Marchand deal or the Mrazek deal.

Well Rantanen would have been long term.. Marchand is a rental.. but I think they knew they struck out on Rantanen last night (had no firsts left) so should have gone for plans B, C and D today.

Florida got Marchand (UFA) at 50% retained for;.. a 2nd.. that will be a 1st if Florida wins 2 rounds and Marchand plays 25% of the games..

Pretty cheap.

Man so close! He wanted to come.. Oil couldn't offer same assets to Carolina.

Can you imagine him on either Leons or McDavids wing?

Oilers took a huge swing yesterday. Sources say Rantanen had interest in coming to Edmonton and things were well down the path of an extension being agreed to - $ were north of what Dallas signed him for..
In the end, the trade assets weren’t there to get it done.

Also sounds like they looked in on Rakell and Donato as well.
