Maybe Dustin should spend more time after practises with the goalies?
Thoughts?

Hey, at least Drai scored (again). Better team effort than the others in this losing streak, but at least our overall team defense couldn't be blamed on the majority of those ones. This one was 100% on our goalie. Those last two should have been saved.
SO sick of (how many GMs now?) saying "our goaltending is fine"

Broberg with 2 goals tonight. I'm still somewhat sceptical they are going to find a better dman available at the deadline.
But at least they have have Arvidson. At least I think so..Havent actually seen him play yet but he counts against the cap.

They might have been able to trade for a guy as good as Broberg.. if they had kept Broberg.. and traded Broberg for a guy like Broberg.. but.. nope..

That was a better game, agreed. Far more even play. But then the game just gets tanked by 2 sad goals against. And the refs rub the salt in by biting on 2 huge hilarious dives.

Edmonton Oilers @EdmontonOilers
"Tonight's a really good game for us. I think the way that we just skated with our legs, we worked really hard tonight & I think that's a big step in the right direction."
Stuart Skinner on the #Oilers effort against the Panthers.
Not really the guy that should be giving that quote.

Team USA ref Rooney and the PQ ref Furlatt calling the game, both putting the boots to Edmonton, Canada tonight.. those last 3 penalties were bs.. especially when compared to all the ones they ignored from FL.. good to see S. Skinner coming up clutch when the team needed it badly.. good work bud.

One thing that bothers me about Skinner aside from his play - which speaks for itself - is the way he is constantly washing the other teams balls. Like there's being respectful and saying the right things and then there's what Skinner does. Honestly if I was a teammate of his it would drive me nuts. No one else on the team constantly goes out of their lanes to praise the oppositions players even to the point of having conversations with them and apparently laughing and apologising to each other when they disagree on something.
I want a goalie that hates the other team and wants to ruin their night.
But Skinner has a cool moustache so I guess he's the guy.

Oilers PK problems is solely due the lack of speed/quickness of the PK'ers.. can't skate so there is zero forecheck pressure EVER.. we forechecked them into the ground last year.. they couldn't get out of their own end on the PP.. our PK forwards can't skate.. so now we just fall back and give up the neutral zone.. and then spend the whole PK in our own end.. with no pressure on the puck carrier.. because they skate too slow to get to them.. so they collapse into a box.. and it turns into a crap show.. and many PP goals.
For all Mcleod's and Foegle's faults.. they were fast.. they could at least skate and create a forecheck on the PK.. pressure the puck carriers.. eat up tons of PP time.. the current Oiler PK problem is not systems related.. its all personnel
Speed is KING
We lost a lot of it over the summer..

Sounds like Foegele is playing very well in LA. McLeod just hit a career best in points.
It's crazy to think that all we had to do last summer was ... basically nothing. Probably still cool with the Ceci move, but aside from that, just valuing what we had and showing a commitment to more of the same group that just went to game 7 of the finals may have just worked out fine. With a nice LTIR scam with Kane to give us a boost at the deadline. Broberg was probably done regardless with our org, but Holloway seemed to want to stay and only went for that offer sheet because we were lowballing him and not showing any real interest.
Chasing shiny new things has been an Oilers management thing forever though. Hope there is some spark that finally gets this team going so we don't have to look back at the last summer as yet another oilers management disaster. This has been a pretty weak run of play for a month or so now though. Wouldn't be surprised if the org starts to get so desperate they that thinking Kane coming back early would give the dressing room a spark

How so?
He signed a 2 year contract. That deal could just have easily been with the oilers but they made a decision that he wasn't worth that money. How they were unable to look 6 months into the future and realize that they would be ready to bend over backwards to sign him to that deal. I said it at the time and it's going to continue to be true. Yes it was a slight overpayment but who cares?? They could have locked him up and had that player instead of overpaying at the deadline for a worse player.
Also interesting that they called cap space and flexibility so highly until.. Checks notes...Jon klingberg became available..

Maybe not if we showed interest in our prospects earlier but pretty sure by end of season Broberg was destined to be a holdout asking for a trade. His agent is pretty aggressive and was probably working on the offer sheet angle from the start of the offseason. Think Holland burned that bridge already, but it was on JJ for playing hardball with Holloway to start the summer. We thought we had our wings totally figured out with Arvidsson and Skinner so we treated Holloway as expendable.

Both goalies tonight ended with an .889 save %. But it was Skinner who cost the Oilers the game, right? Not the team in front of him playing like garbage.
Right now, the Oilers have one player playing anywhere close to his potential and that's Draisaitl. No one else is even close to the top of their game. When the team in front of them are good enough, the Oilers goaltending has been good enough. But when the team stinks, well, you get what we've seen the past month. They're not going to steal you too many games, but this roster wasn't built based on the ideal of the goalie having to steal games. This is supposed to a deep, veteran roster, particularly up front. Until those vets start playing to their capabilities, the goaltending is going to look bad at times.
What happened to all of my messages? lol (I guess it's been awhile) BlueSky: StefBarnes

Offensively we did enough to win last night. That is the disappointing part. Skinner just simply is not good enough at all right now. Is the defense bad?? Yes of course. Bouch has been a friggin train wreck, but some of these goals beating Skinner I would expect a high school kid to make. Help your team out. Like come on. Unfortunately if the goaltending doesn't improve, we will be lucky to make playoffs as a wild card. That's if we even make playoffs

I'm sure Bobo would give our team and fans fits too. Florida waited forever for that guy to finally perfectly time a 1-2 month period of playing well for playoffs. Even then they needed our top 4 forwards all broken to some degree to finish the finals off.
Bobo let in 1 weak goal last night. We let in at least 2 unfortunately.
