Oilers release statement

https://www.nhl.com/oilers/news/release-oilers-statement-on- connor-mcdavid-suspension

Quote:

The Oilers organization is disappointed and we share in our fans' frustration over the three-game suspension of our captain Connor McDavid. We support him through this process and the organization and our fans look forward to having him back in the lineup vs. Seattle next week.

I got excited for a spicy accusation against the NHL. Instead I am disappointed in their subdued disappointment.

I think the Oilers are trying to subtly signal some real annoyance here. The press release is unusual, and it says specifically that they're frustrated. It's going out of its way not to embarrass the league, Parros and the officials, but still flagging that they are not happy here.

There have also been media guys who have heard from sources that A) McDavid was going to appeal, and B) that he's intending to scale back on league interactions, interviews, etc. They didn't in fact appeal, but it still indicates to the league that the star and the team are fed up with this.

We'll see if it gets any action. I think it's still too subtle, and we're going to have to see someone go off and get fined before there is a change, but still - at least they're not completely sitting on their hands.

This might be an ignition source for this team. They say every season is different, and no two runs share the same storyline. I know this would my motivation to say screw you to the league and go on some long runs of dominance.

No Cups

Well, they already have my money, but maybe by not watching these three games on ESPN+ they'll see a decline in viewership? I dunno, maybe they'll realize that pro sports are Superstar driven.

Doubt it.

Listening to Parros make his DOPES pronouncement routine is like listening to the sentencing at an old Soviet Russian show trial.. total farce.

They should be conducted open to the media of both teams involved. These jokers should atleast be on the hook to explain and be accountable under questioning.

Right now they do it in a sheltered bubble knowing no one is going to face them and question them on their logic.

Having to explain your reasoning to another human being capable of asking rational questions dries up some stupid choices.

Yep.. real time accountability would solve a lot.. now they're able to sit down for a few days as their creative writing staff conjures up a tangled reasoning narrative to suit the suspension result they wanted.
Like the old Soviet line "show me the man and I'll show you the crime.."
