Ive said this for years but it bears repeating. Kevin Chevldayov is far and away the best gm in the league.
With the challenges that market continues to face year after year he somehow keeps that team competitive and a legit threat. Its astounding really.

Kr55 can speak better to this than I can, but I believe the advanced stats on Broberg suggested he was more lucky than good in the playoffs. I think he was underwater for chances against, but had a really high on-ice sv%.
That's not to say he wasn't a valuable contributor, and probably the right guy to play over Desharnais, but I think he wasn't as amazing as it's being suggested...

I'm staying silent until his luck runs out now lol.
He even got a 2nd assist on a late PPG in a 8-1 loss with all the sens PKers just standing straight up letting a cross ice pass for Holloway to score. Robbed me of an Ullmark shutty of course in my pool.
Highest xGA in the game, but somehow the only D that didn't get scored on. The magic is still flowing, this season is cursed so far :)
Foegele with 4 goals as well now. Only Drai with more on our team. We having fun yet?

Well crap. You expect a guys luck to turn but who would expect your knee being taken out by a midget like Marner on a routine rub out on the boards.

Scary one for Holloway;

Hopefully he is ok. Finishing his shift then collapsing does not look good.

Damn, that is awful. Kept playing for so long after. Not sure I've ever seen something like that before.
Hope Holloway is OK.

This doctor does analysis on sports injuries, did one on E. Kane’s and already has one on Holloway.
Cole’s notes: speculates it’s not too serious. There is a blood pressure regulator behind the neck muscle which probably got disrupted, so his arteries dilated after some time and ended up feeling light headed. Heals quickly.

So I read this morning that the two front runners to be Canada's top 2 goalies at the 4 nations cup are Binnington and..... Joey Daccord.
Daccord is born and raised in the USA, but has dual Canadian citizenship from his father. Who thought we'd see the day when Canada would have to go to a technicality and get the (5th/6th/7th?) best American goalie over the top Canadian ones.
The report also said (probably not surprisingly) that Skinner is completely out of the running.

I thought our tending was a bit suspect for a contender until today’s transaction.
35 year old AHL journeyman, Dustin Tokarski just signed with Hurricanes. David Ayer’s must not have been able to get the time off.

His 5 games with the Chicago Wolves, going 4-1 with a 1.61 GAA and a .933 S% were probably his last chance at an NHL. I saw Jon Gillies play in one ECHL game a few years ago and thought to myself, wow looks like he isn't getting back to the NHL, and the majority of his NHL games he played in were played that season. Goaltending is weird, with only 60 NHL jobs available and no one wanting to give up on someone that they might think will be good, it is probably the position where the most players are cheated, and the most players get random chances (especially when they get a little older).

Trouba traded to the Ducks for peanuts:
Jacob Trouba for Urho Vaakanainen and 2025 cond. 4th round pick
8M cap off the Rangers books to help lock Shesterkin up. Trouba had a 15 team no trade list. Probably narrows down to only US cities, ideally ones on coasts.

I wonder if the ducks hold onto Trouba only until the deadline. It's clear they don't need him this year.

Let me guess. Stone goes on LTIR and Vegas gets him with 50% retained.

Maybe they'll put him on twice somehow?

He played a few days ago. His recent injury wasn't expected to be THE regular season ending one.
Don't worry, his injury will be reaggravated at the right time

I wanted no part of Fowler, glad to see the Oilers didnt get him.
As far as the "plumber" you reference. Biakabutuka is the kind of prospect you would usually love. 6'4" - RHD - skates like the wind!
He might never pan out but is only 22 and I wouldnt be surprised to see him carve out a career

Sabres at 11 straight games lost. That franchise is at a dead end. Player after good player finding success as soon as they leave Buffalo. I've thought they should have turned the corner 4 years ago but they're no where near even being competitive now.

How embarrassing to be a fan of a team that missed the playoffs 13 times in a row. What a bunch of losers.
Fun fact when I went to look that up - turns out we have the longest division title drought at 36 years!

It's pretty crazy but is it surprising? I mean, look at that GM. He was a hockey player, then held some relatively low level roles in the organization and then the owner made him the general manager. What in his background would ever have made him successful in that role?
Looking at the team's management behind him, they have 3 AGMs
Jason Karmanos - runs scouting, player development, analytics and is the GM of their AHL team - a lot on his plate.
Mark Jakubowski - He pre-dates everyone having worked in the organization for ages, and was originally named an assistant GM under Tim Murray after hilariously having been assistant TO the general manager in the Darcy Regier days. According to the 2014 article I was able to find, he is responsible for salary cap analysis, contract research, player transfers, roster administration and CBA compliance.
Jerry Forton - he's the most recent add, getting promoted from director of amateur scouting in June 2024. It's unclear in any of the couple articles I read quickly what his responsibilities are.
Hard to know how that group is working but the results are pretty clear - It's not working out well for the Sabres.
I do get the sense that their owner likes to be involved. He apparently showed up to read the team the riot act in Montreal just before they got curb-stomped last night.

12 now. Yikes
It is still funny how they got 2 LHD as BPA with their first overall picks. Although I guess they did get a guy that would have been first a lot of years with Eichel too.

Saw today that Justin Schultz retired. It seems like not long ago he was ripping up the AHL, just waiting for the lockout to end. Managed to but together a solid career with a couple Stanley Cups, and even though he never won the Norris, he did get some votes.
