I saw through Twitter that I was on waivers”, explained DeAngelo. “To be honest with you, it wasn’t a total shock that I was going to be out of there at that point of the season. The season started off so rocky, and a lot of it being my fault.” DeAngelo knew the fight in the tunnel shouldn’t have happened and took a lot of accountability for his actions. Looking back, it was obvious he thought it was something the Rangers could have handled differently and he was ready to brush it off and continue on with Georgiev as his goalie. “Me and Georgy we’re fine. We weren’t the best of buddies, never were the best of buddies, but I think we both would have came back to the rink on Tuesday and everything would have been fine.” DeAngelo was waived and released by the Rangers and didn’t end up catching on with the Carolina Hurricanes until the following season. Georgiev on the other hand, was traded to the Colorado Avalanche two summers after the incident. I’m not sure what he did, but of all the options and possibilities out there, DeAngelo sounds almost perfect. Guessing he won’t be looking for a huge payday. Looks like he can play. Certainly sounds a lot more enticing than Barrie or Shattenkirk.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking Barrie (33) and Shattenkirk (35) are older.. on downslide.. offer some offense.. but past prime.. I'd much rather bet on DeAngelo..

DeAngelo is 28.. younger than Nurse (29)..

DeAngelo sounds like he has a high compete level.. hockey nerd..

DeAngelo would likely appreciate a chance to play with a contending team and reset his career.. he's been a ping ball for the last few years..

Think the main issue would be he doesn't like to play any defense. Guy is just pure offensive talent. Which makes it extra funny that he would be ragging on a goalie. He is never around to help any goalie he plays in front of lol.

Definitely not a guy you want with Nurse IMO. Not sure he beats Bouch for PP time either.

DeAngelo would agree with you, said he had an awful game same as Gorgiev, and he was no better.. regretted shooting his mouth off..

IMO he'd be a better option than Barrie or Shattenkirk.. they don't offer any defense either, and less offense at this point in their careers I'd think..
You don't need DeAngelo to replace Bouchard on PP.. but he'd be a great back up though.. and could play 2nd PP over Nurse or Ekholm.. reducing their total on-ice time.. we're also one injury (Bouchard) away from having no PP QB.

My opinion on DeAngelo's defense is open.. need to see a deep dive on his stats.. and see him play.. and I have neither.. his +- in Carolina was +30.. then -27 in Phili the next year.. enigma..

Probably can't be a worse defender than Nurse at the moment :) ..
Maybe DeAngelo plays with Kulak as 2nd pair.. Nurse drops to 3rd with Emberson/Stetcher/Brown

Even Lowetide has started to mention that maybe Nurse is warranting being dropped to 3rd pair minutes..
