Remember this kid having a reputation as a pain in the rear. Relentless attacker, lots of energy. Hasn't managed to make it work in the NHL though.
This might be goodbye Holloway.
Podzolkin was one of the only unlucky Canucks last year just to note. 0.960 PDO on a team where only a few guys were under 1.

Basically a gamble on another guy who COULD make the roster. He played a full season in 2021-22, but was down to 39 games in 22-23 splitting time in the AHL, and then last year just 19 in the big leagues and the rest of the time on the farm. Only 2 measly assists in those two games too.
Still, someone who could rise to the occasion possibly. Curious how this impacts the Holloway decision, if at all.

At least skating doesn't seem to be an issue based on 2019 reports..

I had read on hfboards that he had a bad concussion after his rookie year and took a step hack on development. Oilers having to take a lot of risks on injury prone guys this off season, hopefully it won't bite too hard next year.

Hope not injury prone. Looks like he got his legs lifted by a guy hitting him on the boards, which ended up making him land on his head. Late 2023, so it's not a big excuse for his development. He only lost a few weeks in the AHL with the injury.
Seems Canucks fans view Podkolzin a lot like Puljujarvi was viewed here. Physical attributes but can't put it together or could just not be good enough to ever do it at a high level. Kind of the same story as the other 2 guys we got offer sheets on.

If he was firing on all cylinders and meeting all expectations he wouldn't be on the trade market. Competitive teams aren't giving away good players without a reason.
That said, maybe timing will be better during his stint on the Oilers and he finds his next level.
It's all a roll of the dice.

The way to look at this is to compare to what we’ve given up. A fourth round pick is a toss up to play NHL games at all, and it might be 2028 before we see a single one even if that pick was to become a player. This is low risk for a player on a very manageable salary who has NHL experience. Not a bad gamble.
