Bouch and McD magic.

Love it. Our skating is an asset against Dallas. Skinner made some huge saves. That's how we have to play to take it.

Brown was great tonight. McLeod was great in the first 2 periods.

Skinner was solid!

I think that cough up in the game 7 put the fear of God in him.. he actually was hitting guys tonight.. finished a few checks.. it has a big impact on teh flow of the game since he is always the first guy in.. messes up opposition breakouts.. never seen it all year.. or in the first 2 series..

Finally breaking through his mental barrier.. still has a long ways to go .. but great signs.. icon_nod

Other than the W obviously, best parts about this game:

The good:
1) contrary to most outlets’ opinions, we can play with this team. W aside, we were the better team tonight.
2) our 4th line was awesome
3) Great game by Skinner. He keeps playing like that, sky’s the limit.
4) McDavid is looking WAY better than last series.
5) McLeod finishing checks

The bad:

1) Those frigging turnovers. What’s going on? Clean that up.
2) starting to sit back with only a 1 goal lead this time.

The ugly

1) The refs

I honestly thought they generally kept pressing rather than sit back and defend tonight.

Watch again. Around the 7 minute mark or so. The iced it like 4 times in a row, a couple times with not a whole lot of pressure. Just glad they didn’t try to protect the tie in OT

The unforced icings for sure, I’ll agree on that.

But as a whole, they didn’t sit back and let the Stars come to them as we had seen them do with Vancouver. There were moments, of course there were going to be times when Dallas press and press and the Oil wouldn’t be able to do much else aside from defend, but I thought they were significantly better in that regard tonight.

I thought they were much better about that then they were last series - they outshot Dallas in the third period still, even with the Stars pushing from behind. I believe only period we didn't outshoot them was the 1st overtime and they got a bunch of shots on that 4-minute powerplay.

Probably were on a good path to close this one out in regulation. Sucks they got that bounce. And Kulak with the brain shut down giveaway plus no attempt to block when he had the chance.

Well that's my Friday made... Smile on my face when I go into town and spot the Leafs fan working away on my day off!!!

A whiff in the zone, what percentage of the time can you get away with it in the regular season? Way higher than the post season, deflections as well. The later is always a bit unpredictable, but the way this team buckled down in that first OT, especially after the 4 minutes kill was fantastic, that kill hurt them badly though, they looked leggy, and I'm sure the coaching team suggested to have push early.

For all the talk and predictions by the "experts" and youtube content makers, the Oilers did a darn good job of playing ther Stars, repeat that on Saturday and I'll be one happy fan.

ngl, when they reviewed it, I was sure it was coming back given the BS of this game, but great to see McDavid cash in on that crazy nice pass.

What was the old adage about these multiple OT playoff games? That for the winner, it's easier to recover? Would be amazing to go back home up 2.

One of the exceptions I could think of would be that 2002 series with Ottawa and Philly. Sens lose in Triple OT game 1 but sweep the remaining 4 tilts....

Officiating seemed very biased to me. How many power plays did Dallas have? 5? 6? Yet their slew footing was never called

So this is what hope feels like?

Yeah the bar for the rule book seemed to be set at two different heights.. lots of opportunity for Dallas penalties for infractions at a similar level that were called on the Oil. Only sniff at a PP was a non-discretionary too-many-men..

C'est la vie.. .... Game 2 !!

This seems like the kind of game where your owner or management should be making a call to the head office asking how serious the league is about not being a joke. What even were those weak arse calls on us, but Dallas played a flawless game except a bad line change. Bouchard call was just a phantom call by a ref in no position to see what happened. As the 3rd weak nothing call in a row. Such a joke.

Great game but the team. They played about as good of a road game as you can get.

From top to bottom, I thought the players played pretty well and I felt they deserved to win. They had multiple chances to win in regulation and I thought Oettinger kept Dallas in it. Skinner had to make some great saves as well but I felt Oettinger had to make more.

I was a little worried when Dallas got that bounce to tie it and then in OT McD misses a sure goal that he scores 99 out of 100 times but they got it done.

I am not going to go off on the refs but when it's 5-1 in PP's and the only PP you give is a too many men call, I have a hard time with that. There are hacks and slashes and holds, guys getting hauled down all the time. I don't know how you don't give the Stars 1 or 2, especially when you see the Oilers calls. Could the plays by the Oilers be called? Absolutely. But were they different than many of what Dallas did? No chance.

Regardless, they got the win and what I love is it wasn't the goalie stealing it and the other goalie being crap. Oettinger was very good but the Oilers won because they were just better.

Skinner was what we needed - he doesn't need to be Oettinger level. Just needs to not let soft ones in, and make a few great stops. He did that last night - hope it continues. If it does, we can keep up with anyone.

And that save on McD - watching it again, looks like the D (was it Tanev?) hit 97's stick as he shot. Either way, great effort by Oettinger, but our guy did his job as well.

I agree. I don't think the Oilers need Oettinger level goaltending to win. If they get it, bonus. But like you said, they just need Skinner to be solid. Solid to me means Skinner makes the saves he should with a few real good saves sprinkled in. In my opinion, if you are a legit decent NHL goalie, you should be able to provide that every night. Skinner did that last night. I hope he can follow it up.

In contrast, to me Oettinger stood on his head for parts of the game. Foegele had a breakaway. He utterly robbed Holloway on a break away. He robbed McD in OT with the help of Tanev. He probably made at least 5 unbelievable, should have been goal stops. He almost stole that game for the Stars.

Great road effort. I love stealing home ice advantage in game 1.

0 on ice infractions called on Dallas, to our 5. Starts just got a sole bench minor. Oilers had every excuse to lose that one but they outshot and came away with it anyway. Skinner played great. Huge huge OT kill on the McDavid penalty, who reimburses the team with an OT winner.

9 playoff wins is the farthest we have gone in the McDavid era. Keep it rolling boys.

That 4 minute PK in OT was terrifying.

So many shots directed towards the net. 2 posts. Plenty seeing eye shots. Where’s the puck? Oh there it is. We are good. Here we go again. Where’s the puck? Oh there it is. Okay we’re good. Over and over.

The OT goal review was terrifying too.

Benn kept winning his draws. We were winning them on the earlier PK's. They were mostly in our zone this time. For some reason I had a good feeling about this game. About this series. About this year.

Love that replay of the Dallas fans jumping up and hugging eachother after the puck hit the post in OT and went under Skinner.

Little taste of history. 18 years ago, sheesh.

Reid Wilkins @ReidWilkins
That's the Oilers first win in 2nd OT or later since Horcoff beat San Jose in the 3rd OT on May 10/06.
