Hintz taken out with a Nate cross check right to his wrist. Cross checks going wild this year. Obviously the worst of them was Nurse's little push last game in a puck battle.

Brad Marchand talking about the playoffs.. just saying what everyone knows is the truth.
Maybe as a public relations gesture NHL refs are instructed to tighten up a bit more tonight?

https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/news/boston-bruins-brad-marchan d-part-of-the-playoffs-is-trying-to-hurt-other-players

People don’t say that, but that’s just a fact of the game. So every time you step on the ice, someone is trying to hurt someone and that’s just how it goes in the playoffs. That’s part of the benefit of having a physical group. That’s why you see teams go the distance with a big D-core and physical teams. And it’s why you rarely see teams that are small and skilled go far, because they get hurt...”

Obvious follow-up question that NHL media guys would never think to ask - should that really be what we're striving for?

Canes had the game on their hand and tried the old lead protecting mode in the third. 3 goals against later it was over.

Hate the canes forever so whatevs. Still would have liked to see it go 7.

There's a reason why Canes management hasn't given Brind'amour an extension...and this is why...though some speculate he could go to Seattle bc of the Ron Francis connection but would rather not see that happen.

Think there was speculation that Brind'Amour was lining up to be the highest paid coach. I don't see it either. He's kind of falling into a Todd McLellan zone. Given this solid all around team over and over, consistently dominate the regular season, but can't get it done in playoffs.

Appears as if Canes management just simped (like Doug Wilson with the Sharks) in regards to giving Brind'Amour that extension all while throwing every sign of caution into the wind.....

They're also going to be losing 4-5 players of their core at minimum this offseason too

Kind of an odd trade in my opinion for Tampa to do right now. Bringing back a going to be 35 yr old in June with 2 years left at 6.75 when you have your captain to resign. I know the market for dmen isn't great but I don't know if he will have a ton left.

Good deal for the Preds. I know he was decent for them but they get rid of his contract without having to retain a cent.

Nashville is a disaster now lol. They cap dump Ekholm because they got Mcdonagh, and now they dump Mcdonagh.

I think it more looks like a GM trying to clean up the mess. Trading Ekholm is clearly a mistake. He's been better than I think even the management thought. Anytime you can get rid of a guy that will be 35 with term left, I think you have to do it.

I wondered this year if Nashville didn't outperform management expectations by a long way. Thought that with a lot of their moves, they seemed to signal rebuild, but the team just didn't drop off - even with selling a bit at the deadline. Forsberg, Josi and Saros are decent pillars though...lots of picks now, just no really early one.

Getting O'Rielly was a bad call if they were tanking. And Nyquist too. That's the same kinda patchwork job Poile would do to try to fix the center position. Was definitely surprised at the offense they managed in the regular season though. All down the toilet in playoffs of course.

O'Rielly had a solid season and is on a very good contract. I could see Nashville trading him next trade deadline if they aren't in the playoff hunt.

It'll be interesting to see what happens down the line for the Preds and Central Division overall....

Minnesota is anxiously waiting for the 2025 offseason when the Parise/Suter dead cap hit of 15 mil is drastically reduced to 1.5-2 million annually....that team definitely has a solid foundation to build off of. Due to how deep LA is on RD, they were able to offload Brock Faber for Fiala as this has obviously greatly benefitted the Wild.

As for Nashville again, they definitely have the pillars as you mentioned to add more contending pieces to their roster while simultaneously rebuilding through prospects. I believe they have one more year of Ryan Johansen's 4 mil salary retention hit but the remaining years of Matt Duchene's buyout hurts for the sake of immediate contention.

Utah can absolutely improve being rejuvenated by their new market while the Blues can tinker with their roster to get back into the playoffs as well. Tough division....

Oilers helped ensure the Lames get the worst possible picks

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg

With Dallas eliminated in the West Final, Calgary will not receive the bonus conditional 2026 third-round pick from the Chris Tanev trade.

#Flames end up 0/3 on trade conditions from last season. Vegas (Hanifin) and Vancouver (Lindholm) didn’t meet conditional criteria, either

It always amazes me how that forum can get 100+ pages of hating the Oilers (with lots of personal attacks on fans) in the span that you get a few posts hating on the Flames here. Kudos to MJ for managing a forum with a little more decorum (even if it means fewer posters overall).

What's funny is all of these pending UFAs are probably going to take discounted contracts to resign with the teams that traded for them.

-Things seem mutual between Tanev and the Stars as their other right side D are gone (Lundquist and Hakanpaa)
-Canucks are honing in on Lindholm as Zadorov has been seen golfing with Nucks management
-Hanifin has already signed an extension with Vegas obviously

#Flames end up 0/3 on trade conditions from last season. Vegas (Hanifin) and Vancouver (Lindholm) didn’t meet conditional criteria, either

Really, the Flames fans should be as mad at Dallas as us. The Stars kept them from meeting two different conditions by first beating Vegas, and secondly flaming out to us.

Apparently Trouba played the playoffs on a broken ankle. I was thinking about things like this the other day - they're really mythologized in hockey culture as just the toughest, most awesome of things and while there's some amazing legends made that way - think Bobby Baun scoring on a broken leg, or Paul Kariya returning from the dead to score the overtime winner - I wonder how often it's actually a detriment to the team.

We heard the story repeated several times last week about Chris Tanev playing the final game against Edmonton in the Battle of Alberta a couple years back with a shoulder that needed surgery. As the story goes, he couldn't shoot the puck and didn't even make passes in the warm-up. But was the 7th defenceman really so far a drop-off, that a Tanev with a broken wing was the best option for the team?

Everyone plays through some level of bumps and bruises in the playoffs, but with serious injuries, I really wonder if it's worth it putting someone in who's held together with duct tape.

I remember hearing all about Tkachuk playing the memorial cup with a broken ankle in his draft year. He, Marner aaaaand I’m blanking on the other guy, were arguably the best line in junior that season and Tkachuk was a force despite the broken ankle.

Didn't Gator play with two messed up (dislocated?) shoulders for us in the 06 playoffs? I seem to remember something like that.

Canucks first move to hope their miracle PDO season can keep reproducing

Hronek gets 8 years x $7,250,000. 1.042 PDO, and terrible stats away from Hughes. 52% xGF with 59% offensive zone starts and all the cherry offensive ice time.

Holland probably would have given him 9.25M, but oh well, Canucks can still go nuts and bust their cap with overpays of Lindholm, Zadorov, Joshua and maybe toss in Boeser early.

I think the Lindholm ship has sailed, and Zadorov deal is probably dead now too with the Hronek signing. Too bad, Big Z 2.0 'Wish Edition' would be a lovely Cap anchor for Vancouver.

Maybe should be happy Zadorov goes. Even though he can be a bad liability, he is still cocky as heck out there and lays endless late hits on forwards. Still a decent chance we will have to go through the Canucks at some point in future playoffs.

Missed that Myers needs a deal too. Another guy that was lunging out all series for late shots, and likely the guy that gave Drai his back, ribs or whatever it is injury.

Honestly, that Hronek overpay likely signals "giving up hope" on Lindholm, Joshua, and Zadorov.

There is a possibility Canucks get Guentzel as Boeser is recruiting him hard....but they're likely being used just for leverage.

It'd be funny if Lindholm took less than what CGY/VAN offered to join his former Flames teammates in Florida seeing how Reinhart will be taking a bigger contract elsewhere

Would not be shocked to see Lindholm go east and join Markstrom in New Jersey

Boston.

There top 2 centers are Zacha and Coyle. If they want to have a chance at min, staying where they are, they have to improve on those centers.

The Devils have Hughes and Hischier as their top 2. Lindholm isn't playing above either of them and you don't need a really expensive 3rd line center.

Zacha and Coyle are solid 3rd line centers at best. Supposedly, the Bruins had some cap penalties from the 22-23 season that carried over to 23-24 preventing them from addressing the center position in the most recent year (similar to what will be the Connor Brown situation).

If I were the Bruins, I'd be jumping into both the Reinhart AND Lindholm sweepstakes hoping I get one of those. Reinhart has more upside IMO but Lindholm could be good enough to benefit off of Pastrnak on his line.

Holy crap! Quite the off day between finals game.

Markstrom gets traded for a 2025 1st, top 10 protected, plus Bahl who's a huge, defensive dman.

Sharks take Goodrow off waivers and his 3.641 salary. The Rangers must be doing cartwheels.

Kings traded PDL to the Caps for Kuemper straight up.

Kuemper alone doesn't scare me as Oilers fan...it's what the Kings could potentially do with that cap space that might sound some alarms.

Funny guy Rob Blake...gives McClellan vote of confidence mid-season only to let him go weeks later. Gives vote of confidence to PLD saying the organization would "stay the course" with his development only to offset his cap hit & term just months later.

I am feeling much better about a Leon re-up right now than I was half way through the Vancouver series. I cannot believe someone took PLD at full retention. And Kuemper in LA is no different than Quick, Talbot or Big Save Dave. An aging goalie in full decline aside from one season in Colorado where even then he was pulled 6 times during that run.

Shows how the pedigree that some players have just never gets washed off in some GM's eyes. PLD still seen as a former top pick that could have big upside by multiple teams in the last few years, just ignoring his slacking arse all the time.

Nurse probably has a beautiful pedigree still in the eyes of many GMs out there ... just sayin.

I've never been a PLD guy. He seems like he has a give a crap problem. He didn't have a great season. However, the Kings gave up a TON to get him. I would have thought they would have wanted to at least see for 1 more year if he could turn it around. Sometimes players struggle their first year. New City, new coach, system, etc. I guess if they waited, I think he had a NMC kicking in.
