I shouldn’t be pissed off and annoyed like this after a game 7 win, but holy crap. How long until they learn they can’t sit back like that?

Anyway - woohoo! Bring on the Stars. Hope our guys can rest up a bit.

Give credit to Coach Knob for a well-timed time-out to kill the Dys’ momentum.

Canada’s last remaining team.

I’m thrilled that I don’t have to put up with smug Canuck’s fans. Great night.

Yep, the Oil figured that they needed to give the fans some excitement by playing like timid zombies for part of that last half of the third. What should have been a jaunt ended up being a marathon.

That last minute panic was all on McLeod.. brutal pizza.. so dopey .. so Mcleod.. brought Vancouver, and fans, back into the game..
McLeod owes Skinner a shutout.

.. have to give credit to the refs.. they were not a factor this game.. sorry for trashin' you Mr. Rooney.. :)

Nice time out Knob. Reminded the players that they can still play hockey.

Another dominant game for 50 minutes until we tried to sit back. Great win! Hope we get at least a couple days off.

LFG!

Aside from a what the heck McLeod, great game all around.

Not a biiiig fan of the sit back and defend. But they bought into blocking shots. Knob used his timeout(!!!) and the boys pulled it out.

What a pant launching!

On. To. Dallas.

My goodness, we didn't need that last 5 or so minutes. Both goals came from brutal errors, I know Mcleod hasn't had a great series and was called on that high sticks in the first, but to do that was inexcusable. Had we not progressed we could have placed that play next to Steve Smith or even Patrik Stefan's.

However, we did what we had to do and win the game and series. It takes all kinds of wins to progress, and now we travel home feet up tomorrow and then go again...

Dallas we've got history with them, time to make some more.

Awesome series win. I feel very good in my circles after beating Calgary and now Vancouver.

Probably shouldn’t have gone to 7 but oh well, down to the final four. Gets very tough from here. But we have the best two players in every series.

Holloway, Carrick and Ceci had great games. The team defense bought in and although we sat on our heels after the 71 giveaway I loved the last 2 minutes. Pretty much just played a PK. Aggressive. Didn’t look for the empty net and just took control.

Bring on Dallas. A few days rest and this team can be marginally better than San Jose , or Dallas, or New York, or Florida.

I shouldn’t be pissed off and annoyed like this after a game 7 win, but holy crap. How long until they learn they can’t sit back like that?

Anyway - woohoo! Bring on the Stars. Hope our guys can rest up a bit.

I'll start with the positive - WOOOOHOOOO!!!! See ya Canuckleheads! It wasn't pretty, but it's a win, and we're on to Round 3.

That said, the coach has to get his head out of his hindquarters with his lead protection strategies. You could see it basically from the point where the Oilers scored their second goal. They stop attacking, they stop forechecking, they dump in and then all get back. You could suggest that it helps shot suppression, because the Canucks only had 5 third period shots, but then you remember that at one point the Oilers had a 25-5 edge in shots, and then from that point (about 35 minutes in to the game) on, they were outshot 12-4 and blocked about 300 more. If they kept playing like they had been up until that point, and we out shoot them 40-11 or something like that, are we still holding our breath and white-canuckling it through those final minutes?

We've seen Knoblauch make some important changes to his systems in this playoffs, most notably changing the defensive structure on the PK after the first three games of this series, so maybe he can take the next couple of days and come up with a better plan, because this just isn't going to work against Dallas. They need to be better, and they need to keep taking the play to the Stars.

Okay, rant over. Now just to enjoy again for a little while. Bring on the Stars!

Honestly not sure if Knob is telling these guys to hang back .he was very unhappy with the sitting back earlier in the series. After the timeout we actually started to push in the offensive zone again.

These guys need some smacks upside the head still to not start playing scared.

@Arda

Absolutely wild:

This is the first time in NHL history that three players on one team have 20+ points through the first two rounds of the postseason (Evan Bouchard 20, Connor McDavid 21, Leon Draisaitl 24

To put that into context, there have only been 4 postseasons in NHL history with 3 players with 20+ points in the first two rounds… across every team

Wow. Some playoff performers on this team. Hope the depth can find more ways to step up.

@Arda

We have been so spoiled the last few years I think we forget sometimes what we are witnessing.

We will look back at this fondly. Hopefully with not the disappointment of 2006, but when I think back to that time I really only have good memories. Cup is tough to win. Enjoy every moment.

No Cups

Agreed about McLeod. The guy really needs to find some way to really contribute to the team in the playoffs. All I've seen so far is a lot of skating earlier on, and while there has been some intensity to his game recently... he's made some real bonehead plays.

Hope Ryan can start bringing some more meaningful minutes in the WCF.

Unless they win the cup, most won't. A lot of fans seem to love living in a permanent state of misery with respect to this team, only offering negative viewpoints.

Georges Laraque @GeorgesLaraque

I told ya @Canucks fans and you didn’t wanna listen… You started the game waving the white towel, so here you go, you got your wishes! 😂🤣 Bring on these @DallasStars! Let’s GO @EdmontonOilers! 🔥🔥🔥

Thought the same thing as George.. I've always thought that it wasn't the most positive legacy symbol for a franchise to have.. waving a white flag (towel).. I know the original story behind it.. but putting a kid out at center ice to start the games, under a spotlight, hanging a white towel off a stick.. it looks like you're waving a white flag.. total negative waves man !

That last 5 mins...man. TOTALLY get what Mike was saying about feeling pissed off. My wife was so mad she couldn't watch it any more and went to bed lol. Holloway's line was the ONLY one that was still pushing. I was sure the Nucks were going to tie it up and send it to OT.

McDavid: Love ya man, but a shut down defensive juggernaut you are not. His best defense is when he's pushing the play in the offensive zone.

BRUTAL turnover by McLeod, but why on earth was Vinny flying the zone early there? Isn't it basic defensive play for the defenseman to hold the zone until the puck is out?

Just so happens that I'll be in Alberta at the time game 3 goes. I wonder if my brother-in-law still has his box for the playoffs. If so then hopefully he can get us tickets!

Blows me away how fans who fancy themselves as educated think it's the coach telling the players to sit back.
Do I think the coach tells them to play smart, make sure you get pucks in deep for changes and don't fly the zone before your dman has the puck? Yes, 100%! I think the coach tells the players to play proper hockey. But do I think the coach instructs great puck movers like Bouchard or puck transporters like McD or Leon to flip the puck out of the zone or off the glass instead of making tape to tape? Hell freaking no. When you are in the lead protecting a lead, it's human instinct to not go for it as much as you would if you are chasing the game. If there is a loose puck and it's 50-50 to get it and if you don't, it's an odd man rush the other way. Late in the game, your instinct is to not go for it 100% because if you miss, you are screwed.

If any fan played any kind of remotely competitive sport in their life, where there is some level of incentive to win, no chance in hell did they not stick back to some degree when they were up to protect the lead. So enjoy the win, they are on to the conference finals for the second time in 3 years. It's a good team. Rather than nit pick the team, enjoy it for a rare time.

Great series win!!
I give the Canucks credit, they do not quit. The Canucks were great at capitalizing on Oilers mistakes. Silovs was unreal at times. They got a lot of breaks. But the Oilers were the better team for the entire series. Their PP was lethal, their PK was unreal. They showed they can play great defense. The stars at times played big time. Bouchard and Leon were unreal. They also got some timely big goals.

I can be hard on players at times but when they do good, I am man enough to come out and give a hat tip. I wanted Nuge to step up because they need him too. He stepped his game up a lot in game 6 and 7 which is awesome see and something I have been waiting for. I hope it continues.

Holloway has arrived! This is the guy they hoped they were getting when they drafted him. Keep it going.

I thought Carrick even though he apparently is bad at hockey, was impactful in game 6 and 7. Just over 10 mins per game. 7 hits, 58.3% on draws in game 6, 4 hits, 50% on draws in game 7. No goals against. His line generated some chances. I don't expect big production from your 4th line, they just need to not be scored on, bring some energy, in the playoffs be physical and have some of them kill penalties. He helped that.

I am hoping to see McLeod and Foegele step up next series. They need more production from them on the 3rd line. Maybe Henrique will be ready to go and can help that line.

But I am pumped!! LFG!!!!

Props to the person throwing the steak over the glass in both games. I saw a tweet from someone saying there was one at game 7. Beef ain't cheap!!! icon_lol

Blows me away how you can continuously be so pompous so as to cast aspersions to all the unwashed masses. Those masses being anyone daring to have a different opinion than you.

It's a discussion forum - it is perfectly ok for you to state your opinion/point without first belittling anyone who doesn't share your views (incoming victim post in 3....2....1...)

Why is it always the most negative posters that think they're the actual rays of sunshine?

Forgot to mention it, but props to Ceci and Nurse for playing really well the last couple of games. Nurse in particular was fantastic last night.
