As soon as I saw Nurse on the ice for the last seconds.. I flinched.. game over.
Have no idea what he was thinking.. back off on the guy with the puck in the corner so he has time to make a game winning play?

Didn't deserve this game. Maybe the big boys are tired. That's a consequence of bad depth.

They're 2 d-men short of a contending D-squad.

The one part of our game that you'd expect to do it's job delivered a bum note, can't call out the PP normally, but to go 0/5 and only 3 possibly 4 shots on it icon_dead

McDavid wasn't at the races at all, but that's the bad game out of the way now, back home and do the business on Saturday.

Helluva game by Pickard again. If not for him this was over 15 minutes ago.

McDavid with one of his worst playoff games ever I think. Draisaitl with a good start, then nothing. Bouchard with that great move leading to a GA. And Nurse - you watch him and it’s like there’s a 2 second delay before he reacts to the play. I’d trade him straight up for Zadorov right now.

The Oilers Jekyll and Hyde season continues. They play a great game two days ago, and get caved in statistically in this one. This game wasn't even close.

Ugly game. Team played scared the whole way through. They’re ultra concerned about protecting the net but that makes them ultra conservative sometimes and it costs them. That includes on the last goal where it was a nothing dump in, and then we just didn’t attack the puck carrier. They got a little luck on the goal but hat was happening all night.

The team just needs to attack and attack all night. We need the Canucks on their heels. Unfortunately we only seem to play that way when we are trailing. Hopefully we get another adjustment from Knoblauch before the next game and they come out flying in Game 6.

Not a glorious night for Bouchard. Just muffs the play in the final chance to create something. He just seemed to lack confidence everywhere on the ice tonight.

All the guys we have been playing ~25+ mins every game looked really bad tonight.

And those guys are the only ones that create anything.

The new gm is going to need to seriously consider what to do with that nurse contract. Get creative and find a way to get rid of it. He is a 6/7 d man at this point. Just an enormous boat anchor for another 6 years.

And no first rounder this year.

The team looked sick tonight. Brutal loss.

I find it weird this team always snags defeat from the jaws of victory when they get some semblance of scoring from a third pairing dman or their 3rd/4th lines. Obviously the latter this evening but yeah....

Be more aggressive in game 6 & hope for the best.

Nurse is definitely going to be a waiver wire opportunity for some team next year. No one is trading for that god-awful contract.

The team lacks the commitment to play winning hockey. They just do and it's really unfortunate. They play a great game in G4, pat themselves on the back and then come out and play like junkies that couldn't get enough of a fix last night in this one.

Rough, rough game.

Bad 2nd goal against deflated the whole team's offensive confidence.. sat back rest of game.. had the puck in their own end were content to flip it out and lose possession.. then repeat sequence.. exactly what Tocchet wanted.. keep it close and score a cheap goal.. which he knows some Oilers will eventually give up (Nurse, Ceci).

How good was Pickard tonight? First star on the Oilers for sure! Too bad they couldn’t give him any run support.

Normally a goal like that at the end goes in and I get angry and blurt out a few F bombs. This one went in and I just felt like “yup”. Despite the score, this was an absolute poop kicking tonight from the end of the first to the final buzzer. An embarrassing game from almost any Oiler not named Pickard.

disappointing but still somewhat expected… pickard the only bright spot

blueline is completely cooked… hot trash

team has no concept of how to defend, play D as a group or even to make individual plays (outside of Bouchard to a minimal extent)

I knew something bad was going top happen as soon as I saw Nurse on the ice at the end.. just stared at lundstrom and waited as he passed it past him (like he wasn't even there..) for the GWG.

They broke up 5 and 25 hoping 27 and 73 would help the other and you'd have 2 "OK" D pairs.. but in retrospect it just seems you went from 2 effective D pairs to 1 effective and 2 half-assed D pairs. Worked game 4

What to do?

Don’t even lightly entertain allowing Skinner anywhere near that crease on Saturday.

I knew something bad was going top happen as soon as I saw Nurse on the ice at the end.. just stared at lundstrom and waited as he passed it past him (like he wasn't even there..) for the GWG.

I think his decision making is slower than ever. Like that Kopitar goal last series. He doesn’t react right away to problems - it’s like there’s a delay in registering the issue

1 Cup

So the Oilers have played in 5 playoff series where they did not have home ice advantage during the McDavid era.

Round 2 vs Anaheim in 2017 - lose in 7
Round 2 vs Calgary in 2022 - win in 5
Round 3 vs Colorado in 2022 - lose in 4
Round 2 vs Vegas in 2023 - lose in 6
Round 2 vs Vancouver in 2024

This series is really hard to win now. We have to take a game 7 on the road. Nobody needs that explained.

But this situation and our history shows the importance of winning a freaking division once in a while. And it’s a complete failure that we haven’t done it yet. I don’t really care what the storylines of the season were, the winning streak, the coaching changes…it’s McDavid’s 9th year and we still haven’t made the playoffs easier on ourselves.

I hope they play their best 2 games of the season coming up.

Well if they play anything close to the abortion of a game they treated us to tonight, you best start getting worried.

Nurse is definitely going to be a waiver wire opportunity for some team next year. No one is trading for that god-awful contract.

Only 6 more years.

The good news is that once 29 and 97 are gone the rebuild is in good hands. Getting lottery picks shouldn't be a problem.

Knoblauch sounds like an emotionless robot in his post-game... Tocchet calls out some players for not showing up, and Knob is just flat and lots of nothing.

No wonder our team comes out and plays passionless hockey.
