Serivalli says Pickard starting

Frank Seravalli @frank_seravalli
Sources: #Oilers plan to start Cal Pickard against #Canucks in Game 4 on Tuesday night.

#LetsGoOilers look to even up the series with Pickard backstopping them in what would be his first career Stanley Cup playoff start.

Skinner or Pickard. The win will depend on this team playing great in our zone. I personally think Pickard is more likely to pull off a desperation save too if needed vs this zero confidence skinner that glues himself to the ice.

Kind of makes the poll pointless, doesn't it? I'm not deleting it.

Maybe I've been disconnected from the online discourse, but does McDavid have a reputation for being a "cry baby"? I haven't heard this at all until like 2 weeks ago coming from Canucks fans across many corners of the internet.

It reminds of the early Sidney Crosby days when he was called a cry baby all the time and now, ironically, I've seen comments calling for McDavid to be more like Crosby.

Talking to the refs after a scrum is typically the captain's job it seems. And the cameras are always on McDavid anyway since he's always the best player on the ice. But I've never seen him act like a whiner or a "cry baby".

Is this just sour grapes, idiot bandwagon fans, perhaps a type of selection bias due to TV coverage, or just something that all captains face? This whole narrative comes across as really stupid to me. But then I remember that Canucks fans don't see the playoffs very much, so maybe that's it.

All good players are called "whiners" by opposing fans who think their guys should be able to foul them indiscriminately. Never worry about that.

Showing his babiness yesterday after being crosschecked in the lower back and face simultaneously and not really complaining at all about it.

Really no idea how anyone that pays any attention to him could give him that label. Crosby actually did complain non-stop to refs all the time in his early years, and eventually calmed down. McDavid has always been a guy that just tries to fight through things no matter what crap is being done to him.

I believe it's a part of being Canucks fan. The memes and vitriol I've seen from seemingly normal friends and acquaintances on social media lately is appalling. My Oilers fans have kept pretty quiet, win or lose, Canucks fans are constantly yapping since game 1, round 1.

Reminds me of the Bugs Bunny cartoon:

Canuck fans have always been like this. It's because they've been a mostly awful franchise for 50 years, aside from a short couple of periods when they were actually good. Sit down '82. It's why they were dubbed the Dynasties in 25 years ago. Nothing has changed. They have to pass the purity test and prove their fandom. It's sad for them, but annoying to the rest of us.

Flame fans are similar, but it more that they've been damaged by being beaten so often. Which is also sad.

So they really are all generally operating on the same level as the kid in that video swearing at Jack Campbell.

Yes they have been.

This is a fanbase that tried to burn down their city in 2011 when dispatched by the Bruins. The fanbase that was pleading people boycott Boston Pizza, regardless of the fact the BP franchise has nothing to do with the city of Boston.

They were complete donkeys online back then too.

I think they also rioted and tried to burn down their own city in 1994 too...

My advice. Ignore anything coming from a Canucks fans as factual or logical.

I've seen fans and noted Van media people post about how McD should have got something for slashing at Soucy and cross checking him in the face was justified.

Canucks fans are the vilest.. pure poison.. toxic.. deserve to never win the Cup.

Good. Any word who's playing LW on that first line? I hope not Connor Brown like some media speculated...

Sounds like lines are

Nuge - McD- Hyman
Holloway - Leon - Kane
Foegele - McLeod - Perry
Janmark - Ryan - Brown

Sounds like going 11-7 is an option. If they do, Broberg would be in.

Wish Foegele could step up. Started the playoffs pretty well but turned into a total butthead. Probably a player we should be moving on from as he hits UFA. Don't like his odds to hit 20 goals again after he gets his Ufa payday.

Finger crossed Holloway can get something done on the second line. Obviously we need Kane to finally have a big game too in this series.

Nuge, Mcleod and Foegele ALL need to step up. To score in the playoffs, you have to get into the battle zones and those guys don't go to those areas right now.

Foegele especially needs to pick it up and I am surprised he hasn't yet. He's a UFA and a UFA can make a lot of extra money based on a good playoff.

This series should be the kind Kanes likes. He needs to step up as well.

I like that second line actually. 55 might get a chance to use his shot tonight.

I'd probably be playing Broberg ahead of Ceci but not sure where he fits.

I think Pickard has been quite consistent. And that is what is needed now more than anything. Just consistently decent goal tending.

Although that consistency has also involved being consistently blown out by playoff teams...hopefully he's a little more inconsistent there tonight!

Much prefer those lines to what we ran the last two games, especially now that it seems confirmed that Drai is indeed healthy. Wouldn't hate seeing Carrick instead of Brown seeing as how he hasn't brought a lot. Man we miss Henrique!

Nurse-Ceci pairing still scares me. They have been getting absolutely caved all series long. Sad thing is our only other real option is to elevate Vinny to play with Nurse, and he has also looked completely lost this series (after admittedly looking pretty good against LA. The extra pace of the Canucks is killing him, same as it did with Vegas last year.)
Either that, or Broberg pulls in, as he at least has the skating ability to keep up with the Canucks, but he hasn't played in a while, and how would that impact the D pairings? Throw him right on the second pair with Nurse & move Ceci down in place of Vinny, or just sit Ceci?

No matter what happens with Pickard or our goaltending in general, hope people know who the real culprit is in forcing Knob to make this decision.

Holland left us with the goalie that melted down last playoffs, a $5M goalie that melted down 2 years in a row plus struggled to find any footing in the AHL this year, and Calvin Pickard.

I think almost everyone in this forum foresaw a strong possibility that what has happened in these playoffs now would happen. Holland chose to just sit back and hope things would just work out for him in his last year of his $25,000,000 contract. In this season the whole org knew is crucial for the future of Drai and McDavid here. Just hopes the prayers from our lazy GM.

Who's the goalie the Oilers should have brought in? This isn't me sticking up for Old man Holland, I just see the same thing. So let's see a name.

As an example, I can't remember every trade that happened this year, but the only goaltender I can recall moving was Allen and Kahkonen. Do you think the Oilers should have out bid the Devils for Allen?

I am not looking for doubling down on Holland sucks. I am completely aware of your opinion on the guy and his short comings. I deal in solutions. So who's the goalie the Oilers should have got?

Let's keep in mind:
- Flames ownership stopped a trade of Markstrom because they wanted to keep him to stay in the hunt. So he's off the table.
- Preds weren't trading Saros because he got them to the playoffs.
- Fleury (who I never wanted, he's old and not good) stated he wasn't waiving his NMC.
- Mrazek got resigned.

Pay me $5M a year so I can quit my job and I'll take the time to come up with all kinds of options to fix obvious gaping holes in the lineup.

Or we can pay Holland $5M a year to do nothing. Oh wait, already did that.

Seriously though, what's available out there, and what moves can be made, much of that will never be known to fans. That's Holland's job to be out there looking and trying to fix his lineup. I doubt he even tried this year with goaltending. He clearly believed Skinner and Campbell would both bounce back. Half a disaster happened in the regular season with Campbell being barely functional. Now Skinner is looking beat as well.

So your answer to my question is to complain about Holland some more rather than give a name. I don't need to make 5 mill to be able to list off 4 guys that weren't available that everyone in the hockey world talked about all this past season. I just read a couple of things.

I don't have to give names. And you know as little as any of the rest of us do about what was possible.

All I know is that our GM failed miserably again and his failure was sadly very predictable. Most here done a much better job than you at predicting how this playoffs would go with the super obvious issues with the team smacking us all in the face again. Just blind faith and asking people what they would have done has lead you to almost no conclusions that have played out.
