Gonna try to go to a game 2 in Vancouver. They never release the schedule very promptly these days…

Hockey X had been pure gold from Canucks fans. Can't wait to get this series going. I hate the Canucks more than the Flames.
These fans really believe the regular season wins means a 2nd round sweep of the boys. These Canucks barely survived the Preds.

Yep, because regular season totally represents how the playoffs will go. Jets swept the Avs in the regular season, so of course they went on to sweep them in the playoffs too.
Oh, wait...

Trust me, none of the decades long, all season long fans think any such thing
Confident it will be a great series and our guys will provide yours with a range of challenges? Absolutely
Cocky to the point of betting the farm on a sweep? Hardly
Looking forward to an epic battle

Welcome aboard!
Should be a fun series. What's the goalie situation with your boys right now? Is Demko going to be back this series?

|
Thanks
Realized I'd typed season instead of series
Pretty sure they'll be riding Silovs until such a time as Demko is 110% or Silovs struggles and forces them to swap to DeSmith. An embarrassment of riches between the pipes at the moment for sure. Just grateful for all the support our D are providing whoever's in net

Don't like that we might be playing a no name 3rd string goalie.
Hope the boys are motivated to erase the embarrassments the Canucks handed us in the regular season. Defending will be a lot hard than it was against the Kings.

Apparently the Oilers and Canucks have only met in the playoffs twice in the 40-odd years together in the same division. Craziness.
4/9/1986 W 7-3
4/10/1986 W 5-1
4/12/1986 W 5-1
Oilers sweep the round 3-0.
5/3/1992 W 4-3
5/4/1992 L 0-4
5/6/1992 W 5-2
5/8/1992 W 3-2
5/10/1992 L 3-4
5/12/1992 W 3-0
Oilers win the series 4-2.
Hopefully we can make it three in a row!

Waiting for the other series to be done. Expect Tues, Thurs, Sat and then game 6 to be on the next Sat because Leafs are out. Lots of 8PM and 8:30PM Edmonton stats to allow eastern games to start at their favoured 7PM local start.

It's not a great look for the parents or the young kid is it.
I don't mind them chanting this, I've heard way worse at sports stadiums/arenas here in the UK and in many a case joined in as long as it wasn't too personal towards anyone. However, they can't complain if they don't like anything we come back at them with. I don't think the players are too affected by it either, if anything it shows how worried the opposition are of you.

I'm honestly not surprised. I mean, not much can top 2011 :)
What shocked me the most was how this rabid toddler attacked Jack Campbell, out of all the Oilers to choose from. Somehow poor Jack made the top 2.

I won't lie. I can have a potty mouth at times. I've been in the engineering field since I was in my teens so I have been around a ton of construction people who can get pretty sweary.
That kid looked to be around my youngest age. I would be mortified if he was swearing like that.

It's a bit of a different vibe of aggression when you have a whole crowd cheering on a 8 year old, or whatever that little creature is, swearing away for a social media post.
Predictably many comments on it are "that's Surrey!!! not us!!!" lol. Maybe there is just a bubble around Surrey where class is drained from everyones body.

There is!
It doesn't upset me. Kid probably got caught up in an exciting moment where a crowd was paying attention to them and didn't want to let that feeling die. Hopefully they'll have decades worth of retroactive embarrassment popping up at odd times and a new voice will exist in the back of their head forever.
Personally I thought the next guy was worse.

Very true about how the kid was just playing into the energy around him. I'm sure if I was there encouraging one of my kids to scream profanities to a cheering crowd making it all seem like great fun they would go along. Still though ... Jack Campbell? :)
Hope videos like that don't start stacking up. And better not see some of that from Oilers fans!

Feeling good about this series.
Some random thoughts:
-It's somewhat ironic that the Canucks are one of two Canadian teams remaining considering how "un-Canadian" their roster is. I just did a quick check, and of the 20 guys that dressed for them in game 6, only two were born in Canada, (Phillip Di Giuseppe and Carson Soucy). This might be the least "Canadian" team in NHL history. Eight of twenty are American born (would be nine if Demko was healthy). No judgement on my part--just an interesting twist. For comparison the Oilers are very Canadian--16 out of 20 who dressed for game 5 (all but Draisiaitl, Ekholm, Ryan, and Janmark) are Canadian born (was 17 out of 20 when Carrick was in for Ryan).
-The Oilers are 14-2 in their playoff series history against Canadian opponents (and a perfect 14-0 when they don't score on themselves and are playing in front of fans in buildings) including 2-0 against Vancouver. It is remarkable that this will be only the third playoff meeting between the two, considering they've been in the same division for the Oilers entire history. The Canucks were almost always missing the playoffs in the mid/late 80s, while the Oilers were doing it in the mid-90s.
-In round 1 the Oilers won game 1 at home for the first time since their last cup in 1990. Another thing that they have not done since 1990 is sweep a team--would be a good time to end that drought as well--while maybe not likely, I think it's possible.
Canucks fans only burn down their city after losses in the finals, so I think we owe it to the people of Vancouver to take out the Canucks now and save Vancouver the millions of dollars in property damage.
Can't wait for the series to start. Week between series is too long!

This wait in between series has been excruciating, and then only to somehow have Dallas and Colorado starting before us and getting the first Saturday night game. The extra rest will benefit Vancouver's odds of having a healthy roster going into game 1. Not sure on Demko's status, but the extra days will help everyone else.
I am also surrounded by the most obnoxious Canucks fans aside from one. It is odd to be living in Saskatchewan and having so many Vancouver fans in rural areas. I am not sure where the interest came from?
Nervously waiting for puck drop, and I hope the Oilers just play a patient game and do not try to play run and gun. Nashville gave them fits clogging up the neutral zone, and we have much better scoring than the Predators. It only gets harder from here on out.
Let's Go!

Everyone picking the Oilers to win:
Predictions by ESPN hockey analysts:
Sean Allen: Oilers in five
John Buccigross: Oilers in six
Ryan Callahan: Oilers in five
Cassie Campbell-Pascall: Oilers in six
Sachin Chandan: Oilers in five
Ryan S. Clark: Canucks in seven
Linda Cohn: Oilers in seven
Ray Ferraro: Oilers in six
Leah Hextall: Oilers in six
Emily Kaplan: Oilers in six
Tim Kavanagh: Oilers in five
Hilary Knight: Oilers in seven
Peter Lawrence-Riddell: Oilers in six
Steve Levy: Oilers in five
Vince Masi: Oilers in six
Victoria Matiash: Oilers in five
Sean McDonough: Oilers in six
Mark Messier: Oilers in six
AJ Mleczko: Oilers in five
Arda Öcal: Oilers in five
Kristen Shilton: Oilers in six
P.K. Subban: Oilers in six
Bob Wischusen: Oilers in seven
Greg Wyshynski: Oilers in seven
Consensus prediction: Oilers (23 of 24 picks)
So who is this Ryan S. Clark guy?

Not surprising most are picking the Oilers, on paper they are the better team.
Van top 9 lines:
Suter - Miller - Boeser
Hoglanders - Petterson - Mikheyev
Joshua - Lindholm - Garland
Oilers top 9 lines
Henrique - McD - Hyman
Nuge - Leon - Kane
Holloway - McLeod - Perry
Top line, the Oilers have the edge.
Suter is a career 3rd liner, Henrique a career top 6.
Miller is very good but McD is better.
If a Canuck fan wants to say it's a saw off between Boeser and Hyman. Sure.
2nd line, Oilers have the edge.
Kane/Nuge are better, more proven, legit top 6 players. Hoglander/Mikheyev are ideally 3rd liners.
Leon is a better overall center than Petterson
3rd line, maybe the edge is Van.
Lindholm is a more proven probably better all around center right now than McLeod.
Joshua is a very good 3rd liner and Garland is more experienced than Holloway. Perry is unknown.
Van Defense.
Hughes - Hronek
Soucy Myers
Zadorov Cole
Edm defense
Ekholm Bouchard
Nurse Ceci
Kulak Deharnais
1st pairing. Hughes and Bouchard play the same role. The supreme offensive, puck moving, PP QB. Hughes has a small edge. Ekholm is a better all around dman than Hronek. So maybe the first pair is a saw off.
2nd pairing, edge Oilers. I take Nurse over Soucy any day and I don't think it's close. Ceci - Myers. Toss up. Maybe small edge to Myers but not enough to make up for the edge of Nurse.
3rd pairing, edge Oilers. Playoff Kulak and his skating is better than Cole and I don't think it's close. Zadorov Desharnais. Maybe slight edge to Zadorov but not that much if any.
If the Canucks had Demko, he would level the playing field for the series potentially. Based on what a Van guy said on Gregor's show, doesn't sound like he will play. Head to head, I would take Skinner over DeSmith and it's not close. Silovs who knows. He looked good against the Preds but who scores on the Preds?

Oilers with the most Canadians of any team left in the playoffs..
your 2024 NHL playoffs TEAM CANADA .. the Edmonton OILERS!!
The Canucks only have two (2).. Soucey and Meyers.. (which is ironic since the team name is slang for Canadian)
NB: Meyers was born in Houston ,Texas.. but represented Team Canada well as a junior and IIHF WC.

Nope! The NHL wants all momentum and interest to be reset to zero before firing up again. Because why wouldn't we want the season to drag out into late June? I have no idea why the NHL doesn't start a little earlier to get the season done in May. If they started early enough they could still dither around and be cute with the playoff schedule. June hockey is ridiculous.

Seems we have this conversation every year. Personally, I loved summer hockey a couple of years ago. A beer on the deck at the cottage watching the playoffs? Hell yeah. But I understand people who don't love that.
But what we do agree on is these stupid delays - EVERY YEAR. Why? For example this upcoming series. People will cite things like arena availability as the main reason. Well there was already a game 7 scheduled in Vancouver against Nashville for Sunday. When the Canucks closed it out Friday, why was the opponent not able to simply change from Predators to Oilers? Same rink, same date. Obviously it was available. Nah - let's just tack on 3 more days, just because

Wonder if organizations can be intentionally difficult if they want to try to buy more time. Canucks want their Demko back.
In any case, no Saturday game for an all-Canadian matchup is pretty ridiculous. It's like Saturday is protesting the Leafs being out. It's always the easiest thing in the world for the Leafs to always be on Saturday. Must be a coincidence.

August hockey was great, but that was an... extraordinary circumstance. Year after year, June after June I want to get on with my summer.
I can see the argument where the next round can start in 2 days if the previous went to 7, but that shouldn't happen after 6. I'm fine with that. Not starting tonight is silly. Having 2 game breaks in every series is also silly. Starting games at 7:30 or 8:30 on Sunday nights is silly. Dropping the puck 20 minutes after the start time. They're outsmarting themselves. They make it really hard to follow the playoffs.
Please do not feed the bears. Feeding the bears creates a dependent population unable to survive on their own. Bears.

The Bruins played game 7 Saturday and then started round 2 Monday. Stars played Sunday and starting round 2 tonight. But for some reason we need to wait 5 days, as I said with a game that was already scheduled in Vancouver on Sunday. It doesn't make sense.

Neil Diamond conference in Rogers Arena in the morning Tuesday maybe derailed everything? lol. That's the only thing in Rogers Arena this week from what i can see. monday, Wed, Thurs, Fri completely free. Tuesday probably would have been easy to do for an 8:30pm game. Sunday was already set up for a game as you said.
Putting 2 games this week in Vancouver could have lined up for a Saturday game in Edmonton easily.
Clown league, that's all. Ready for the Oilers to be called for diving while playing against a team with a multi-decade history of having the worst divers, maybe a top 2 diver in the league today in Pettersson? All I am seeing from Vancouver rn in Tocchet talking about the league cracking down on diving, and their media talking about how many calls we got against LA. Flashbacks of lead up to the Duck series in 2017.

I know outsiders will say we are biased (which we are), but for years I really feel like 'Ive seen teams get away with stuff only to see us get called for not even half as bad an infraction right after. I've seen video reviews inexplicably go against us. The Makar offside and one of the worst ones ever, the Talbot one in the other thread amongst many others. Or last year - Nurse getting a game for getting punched in the face and Pietrangelo getting the same 1 game for trying to maliciously chop off Leon's arm...
That LA series is the first one in forever that I feel calls were pretty fair. I was surprised at a few calls that went against LA, I felt we got away with a few compared to previous years. I was shocked they counted Leon's goal. I loved Hrudey crying about it after, but I really didn't think they were to count it.
Maybe the Kings got screwed like I'm hearing from a lot of places, but I really saw it as pretty even. I'll take more of the same

The Kings tried to hook and hold and the league called it for once - well, some of it. And they didn't feel like they needed to even it up without the Oilers doing the same level of infractions. But we're definitely seeing Tocchet go full 2017 Carlyle in the lead-up and that's a clear indication on what he feels the best way to stop 97 and 29 is.
Here's hoping the NHL won't fall for it, although I don't have a lot of faith in the refs...If they DO fall for it? Then hopefully our coach isn't scared of a little fine if our stars are getting mugged and we aren't getting the calls. Sometimes you have to play the game too...the Oilers tend to think we're above all that - which usually goes poorly for us.
