If the Dallas Stars and Edmonton Oilers win tonight, it would be the first time in NBA/NHL history that all 16 home teams won game one of the playoffs.

When was the last time we won a home opener in the playoffs? I suspect it was 20+ years ago. For whatever reason we always seem to come out flat for the first 2 periods or so in game ones at home. I'm not worried about the rest of the games in the series, just this one.
It would sure be nice if we come out hard and never gave them an inch though. Prove that this team is better than teams past (because I believe it is).

I looked it up. The Oilers have lost game 1 in the last 6 series in which they've had home ice going all the way back to 1991. The last time they won a game 1 at home in a playoff series was the Campbell conference finals against Chicago in 1990 (34 years ago!).
The last time they started the playoffs with a win at home, Gretzky was still on the team--1988 against Winnipeg.

Kempe was out with a separated shoulder not too long ago.. he's one of LA's most dangerous snipers.. Oil should target him early and often.

9pm, time to shut down the PC, watch one quick video over on Youtube and get to bed, I need to be up for 3am... Let's buck the trend and win a game 1, set us off on the road.
If Kane was in need of an op, I'd have shut him down on deadline day and sent him to get his hernia done. A fully fit Kane in this series would be a huge plus for the team. Here's hoping Holloway can step up...

Looks like Kane is playing (albeit on the fourth line) and somewhat surprisingly, so is Sam Carrick (Connor Brown out):
Henrique - McDavid - Hyman
Nugent-Hopkins - Draisaitl - Foegele
Holloway - McLeod - Perry
Kane - Carrick - Janmark
Ekholm - Bouchard
Nurse - Ceci
Kulak - Desharnais
Skinner

Surprised Brown is out.. he's been awesome on PK and great on forecheck.. Carrick is neither.

Yeah, I'd definitely take Brown over Carrick too. Is Knob expecting Carrick to drop the gloves tonight or something? it's not a great decision for the actual playing of hockey.

Hope Oilers have been watching the other playoff games.. physicality is off chart.. and refs aren't calling anything.. heads better be on a swivel, and need to finish every check with authority,, that means you Mr. McLeod.. among others..

I'll be 8:21
I disagree though. The first round weeknight playoff doubleheader is a good thing. I'm more annoyed I don't get a second game tomorrow.

From Ottawa and Sask respectively..
If I were an NHL team I'd have a Psyops department that would profile all the refs in the league and determine how a ream should engage/handle them for best results.. NHL refs can easily and often do determine game outcomes..

Watching from the Black Frog, deep in enemy territory. Amazing showing here by the Oilers faithful! Let’s go Oilers!!!!
