Played with fire, but got better in the third to close it out. Lames suck.
Kings beat the Canucks. Technically the division title is in the Oilers hands to take with a game in hand and a game left vs the Canucks. Keep the dream alive. Think I'd rather have a better shot at home ice through the playoffs than pick to play the Kings in the first round.

Just win out and you get the division. 3 tough games (VGK, VAN, COL) and 3 easier games (Arizona State x2, SJ). Might need Van to lose at least one more (besides the head to head) to make it.

I guess I tend to hold grudges for awhile in the hockey world (see my avatar) but I was at Game 5 of the playoffs in Anaheim back in 2017 and acquired my strong distaste, to put it mildly, for Perry at that point.
But if he helps us in the playoffs, which I suspect he'll do, then I guess I'll need to come down from my high horse...

Haha! .. I couldn't stand him either.. but have to admit I grudgingly admired the skillset and the subtle ways he drove other teams nuts.. :)

Uggggggggly game. The Oilers on the second of a back-to-backs with travel and looked it. Not well played by any stretch but they won and that's what matters.
Flames off to the golf course any day now so Anderssen will have lots of time to think about what might have been...or maybe a comeback to Perry.
They'll need to play better to beat teams in the playoffs, but nice to take one when not at your best.
Kane under 10 minutes last night. Between the world's stupidest slashing penalty and the giveaway that Perry was steamed about, it wasn't Evander's best night. Speaking of people who need to be better...

NHL just fined E. Kane $5000 for that slash to Hunt on Saturday.. have you ever seen the NHL fine any other player (on any other team)for a slash like that?
How about that embarrassing swan dive "embellishment" by Anderson on the tap from Draisaitl last game.. not even the embellishment watch list?
I get the sense the refs have started targeting Kane.. I've noticed some odd calls recently.. like that extra penalty he got for "dislodging" the helmet of another player during a fight .. never saw that called before.. kinda like the D. Nurse getting the one game suspension last year in a fight with Hague vs. Vegas last year.. some novel judgements/decisions by the NHL.. and then also I see very few calls made when the infraction is against Kane either.. I don't see Kane complaining to refs much.. so not sure they're trying to "send a message" ..

NHL does fine people on random penalties. I'm not sure there's any rhyme or reason to it.
Certainly, not a good slash. Absolutely nothing had happened with Hunt. He hadn't poked the goalie, he hadn't shoved anyone. He just skated in, shot and then Kane followed him and took a big swing at his hand...enough of one to cleave the glove off.
I'm not going to lose any sleep on Kane giving up a little money on that. It's weird, sure, but it could be a lot worse. I suspect if Hunt had been injured, there's a suspension there.

.. I wondered that as well.. but watching the replay.. after the whistle both Kane and Hunt were skating side by side past the side of the Oiler net.. Kane on the inside.. Hunt leans in and gives Kane a subtle quick shoulder.. almost crashes Kane off balance into the side/back of the net.. it was a cheap/greasy move by Hunt.. probably didn't deserve a triple A slash but it didn't come from nothing.. Hunt likely won't be doing it again :)
My main theme was Oilers always seem to get a disproportionate number of the weird calls/fines/suspensions..

There are times I agree - did anyone else get the manager/coach draft pick penalty? Anyone else punished on anything by covid prorating? - but I don't know if this one is that odd.
I do think that sometimes the Oilers are their own worst enemy there. It's just daft that Holland never challenged the league or said boo publicly for them robbing us of a draft pick for goals that James Neal didn't actually score.

Vegas is the big one. See how we stack up. A blow out win would be cool

They're coming off a tough loss at Vancouver's hands which could be big for Edmonton. The Lights will be fired up and bring their A game to prove it was a fluke. But if The Oilers take it to them proving they truly are one of the league's elite it will propel Last Vegas' spiral going into the playoffs. Either way The Oil will help themselves greatly by beating them. Plus screw the Knight-Lites!
