Skookum Jim wrote on Sun, 07 April 2024 23:47 | NHL just fined E. Kane $5000 for that slash to Hunt on Saturday.. have you ever seen the NHL fine any other player (on any other team)for a slash like that?
How about that embarrassing swan dive "embellishment" by Anderson on the tap from Draisaitl last game.. not even the embellishment watch list?
I get the sense the refs have started targeting Kane.. I've noticed some odd calls recently.. like that extra penalty he got for "dislodging" the helmet of another player during a fight .. never saw that called before.. kinda like the D. Nurse getting the one game suspension last year in a fight with Hague vs. Vegas last year.. some novel judgements/decisions by the NHL.. and then also I see very few calls made when the infraction is against Kane either.. I don't see Kane complaining to refs much.. so not sure they're trying to "send a message" ..

NHL does fine people on random penalties. I'm not sure there's any rhyme or reason to it.
Certainly, not a good slash. Absolutely nothing had happened with Hunt. He hadn't poked the goalie, he hadn't shoved anyone. He just skated in, shot and then Kane followed him and took a big swing at his hand...enough of one to cleave the glove off.
I'm not going to lose any sleep on Kane giving up a little money on that. It's weird, sure, but it could be a lot worse. I suspect if Hunt had been injured, there's a suspension there.
