I would LOVE it it Minny was somehow able to catch up to Vegas & bump them out of that final wildcard spot.

The Wild and Blues will make it interesting. And they have 2 games against Minny and 1 against the Blues and Preds down the stretch.

Cheering for the field against these guys.

How did Eichel not end up suspended for the spear on the weekend?!? Two points tonight on an evening where he should be confined to the pressbox. Hartman got 3 games for throwing a stick on the ice in the same game.

Canucks aren't looking as good right now. Petterson and Hughes both slowing down on production and the team's dropped a few like this. Still 6-3-1 in the last ten so not awful but they've come back to earth a little.

the "Vegas Touch".. ✨💰✨

regarding Hartman vs. Eichel .. the NHLs self importance and ego more important than a guy's spleen apparently

Canucks multi-decade high PDO is now below Boston's last year. Below Blues the year before. Still would be tops in a lot of seasons though. The buffer they got from godly shooting luck is serving them well still, but hopefully we still can find a way to get above them in the standings. Would prefer some other team to have the first crack at Vegas.

All of a sudden a division title is not totally out of the question - if we win our 2 games in hand plus the 1 game we have left against the Canucks, we just need to match them in the remaining games.

So you're telling me there's a chance...

This is the curse of Kuzmenko. Trading a natural scorer inside the division because you think you have enough scoring, but were totally reliant on PDO is a fool's errand.

If McDavid can close that gap, and assuming Mackinnon keeps pace, the final game of the season could be a battle for the Art Ross.

Yeah, when Tampa and Colorado are consistently scoring 6+ goals each game and we're struggling to score one it's gonna be tough to keep pace.

Hill has fallen back a bit. Goaltending not a strength for them any more. I wouldn't worry though. I'm sure Vegas has a 4th string guy being held back to go Conn Smythe in the playoffs.

saw the highlights.. Yotes scored 5 goals on 6 shots to go ahead 6-4.. 7th was EN..
Yotes looked quick vs. Vegas..

I think Hill was injured earlier this year as well.. might be something chronic.. Vegas could be in a spot of bother if Hill is labouring during the playoffs and can't bail them out..

Thompson has played 43 games.. Hill 32 this year..

Update: This is Hill's injury report this season.. looks like he has been fighting a LBI.. not a good one for a goalie.. could be groin or knee.. both problematic for a goalie..
He was out from Dec 2nd to Jan 23rd..

Adin Hill has an injury to his lower body. The expected duration is unknown.

Yeah, and he was declining before being hurt. Goaltending turned messy for them this year after a hot start that carried from last playoffs. No apparent guy at that moment to pull a Cam Ward for them again.

Not getting cocky though. I'm sure if we did play them, we could injure their goalies down to another Cam ward.

Yeah, screw these individual awards now. Hope this can be fuel for McDavid.

Team dug a hole in every possible way to start this season. Costing us a shot at the division title and all those individual awards.

Or…hear me out…maybe McDavid breaks Sittler’s single game record tonight against the Lames and takes over top spot by himself!

Yeah - another 3 from Kucherov today makes it tough. 2 games in hand though. 97 could easily make up 5-6. But not looking good at this point.

Can never really count out McDavid.

Apparently Kucherov's season is an odd one - a lot of 3+ point nights, but actually shut out a lot more than the other two too. Either he's dominant or a non-factor. No in-betweens.

Two more points for MacKinnon last night too. It's a real fight to the finish.

Crazy race in the East now. Some teams stumbling hard down the stretch in an attempt to fall short of the post-season.

Last 10 games for the 5 teams in the running:

Islanders (85 points) - 6-4-0 (5 games remaining - NYR, MTL, NYR, NJD, PIT)
Red Wings (84 points) - 4-4-2 (5 games remaining - WSH, PIT, TOR, MTL, MTL)
Penguins (83 points) - 6-2-2 (5 games remaining - TOR, DET, BOS, NSH, NYI)
Capitals (83 points) - 3-5-2 (5 games remaining - DET, BUF, TBL, BOS, PHI)
Flyers (83 points) - 2-5-3 (5 games remaining - MTL, NYR, NJD, WSH)

Only two spots remain, so it should be a battle to the end. I say SHOULD because some of those teams seem intent on just fading out. Flyers may have finally quit on Tortorella after out-performing expectations for a lot of the year. Capitals have seen Ovechkin start scoring again, but it hasn't seemed to result in any wins. The crazy thing is that the come from behind teams - Pittsburgh and Long Island - haven't completely set the world on fire or anything. The other teams have just been so mediocre that even just a little above .500 has reeled them in quick.

Those final games between Flyers & Caps and Islanders & Penguins could be really interesting...

Matthews with his 65th goal tonight. You have to give him Hart if he hits 70, right?

Probably.
Even though 8 guys have hit 70 goals, and only 3 have hit 100 assists.

Austin got got his Hart. I think Nate has it in the bag. These are career achievement awards given to guys that are "due" when so many players are close.

Nate way ahead in betting odds. People know how these things go.

Not Kucherov? I think there's an argument for the top three scorers really, although I expect that McDavid loses no matter what based on familiarity. They love spreading it around.

MacKinnon would have the appeal of never having won it before, so maybe the one chance to give that player his "due".

Yeah, that's what I mean. Kucherov, McDavid and Matthews all won it. Nate is Mr. Serious, perfect diet, 100% committed to hockey man. Got his cup win. How can you not take the opportunity to give him a Hart on his resume when all the guys around already got one, and everyone is so close.

Just conceding that this is how these media voters think, and he has been getting promoted all year for the Hart. McDavid probably would need to score 15 more points than him. Matthews hitting 70, maybe makes it harder, but who knows when Nate will be in this spot again to get a Hart. He's blown the door off all his career numbers, going on to 29 years old, and is still surrounded by 2 other guys that will be near or at the top for years to come still.

As unfair as it is, McDavid really needs to blow the doors off the competition every year now to win...until he's old and hasn't won for a few years. Then he's got a chance for a late career one if he has a good season and finishes top two or three.

Both 70 goals and 100 assists are hard milestones to ignore.

But the top 3 points getters and Matthews all have plenty of help. Each team has 4 guys around 1PPG or better. They all have a top 10 offensive dman (#2, 3, 5, 11). Any argument for any around the amount of help IMO would be disingenuous, or at least misinforned.

Speaking of older - how about if Crosby gets the Pens into the playoffs? 40 goals, up to 86 points. The only other PPG guy over there was Guentzel, but he's gone now. Although at probably around 50 points behind the league leaders, it would be worse than Hall winning it in 2018. But hard to argue anyone has been more valuable to their team this year than Crosby.

It likely won't happen, but I think Thatcher Demko warrants consideration too. He's carried the Canucks all season.

I'd likely give it to Hughes before Demko. Hughes is going to win the Norris in a walk. Will be close to 100 points and he's more than +20 better than Makar. Bouchard should get a bunch of third and fourth place votes, although I bet when we see the voting, the Edmonton media guys don't vote for the home guy there. He's not their kind of defenceman.

I think Ekholm actually deserves votes there too. If he played the powerplay and had 15-20 more points then I could see years where he would have been a finalist. Maybe the Edmonton media will vote him ahead of Bouchard since he hits and scores less (but still scores more than I thought he would when he was traded here).

Just noticed Dadbot and Stolarz both in top 10 of sav% and GAA.

I guess we don't have THAT many excuses for weak goaltending for so many years. Like most things with the Oilers, we are just terrible at properly playing our hand.

Thank goodness for McDrai.

Yet another 3pt night for Kucherov. No one is catching him at this point.

Man - he's had a couple of crazy stretches the last month or so. 32 points in his last 13 games. He had 15 in 4 games and now 12 in his last 4. He actually has more 2 point (16) and 3 point (15) games than 0 point games (12).

2 horse race now, especially if McDavid misses even one of his last 6 games.
