Hoping hyman at least gets 50 tonight. Overall sluggish game. Third period was solid. Leafs will be swept in the first round.

6-3 final. Poop

Leafs have a solid team. They should go game 7 in the first round before they lose.

Who’d a thunk giving the opponents 5 goals before showing up wouldn’t work as a tactic? icon_rolleyes

IMHO Knoby waited a period too long before sitting SKINS and separating 97/29.

...this time, it's for real (isn't it?).

Did the Oilers show up in the third or did the Leafs enter Choke Mode? Good thing they created such a big buffer prior to activating that usual move.

First 40 mins was trash.. Skinner should have been pulled after the 3rd. 4th gone for sure. That final 7 mins was sure fun to watch tho… where was that earlier? Then Matthews had to sour it with the empty net.

Not much you can pull from this. The Oilers got whooped.

Hot take - Pickard is a better option for the playoffs than Skinner.

Skinner certainly seems to have higher highs and lower lows. Pickard very steady in 2024. It’s nice to have a competent secondary option to look to.

I think you have to look at the player's entire career and question whether his stats this season (10-4-0, .920 Sv%) are the real deal or an anomaly. In his career, without this season, he's 35-54-10 with a save percentage around .900. He hadn't had a season where he was above that mark since 2016-17 with Colorado.

It's not completely out of the realm of possibility that at age 31, he just turned a corner and figured things out, but it's probably not the most likely explanation. I would not be trusting Pickard with my team's results in the playoffs just yet.

Lots of reasons to worry about Skinner too of course, but the team clearly felt that they believed in the guy strongly enough not to address goaltending in any other way, so cross your fingers and hope for the best.

It is worth noting who he played for in that history though.
14-17 played with colorado for 86 games, gaa was about 2.6 and ave % was .920
17-19 played for TO, Phili and Arizona for a total of 18 games 3.8 gaa and 875%
19-22 for detroit for a total of 12 games 4 gaa and 865%

perhaps he's always been better than he was given the chance to show?
