With Oilers spending a lot of future draft capital on upgrading the Oiler line up through trades.. they will have to find ways to re-stock the minor league shelf without draft picks.. one way is to sign undrafted college or CHL overage free agents.. Oilers sign a few every year.. Oilers will have to get creative to find prospects..
Here's a list from the recent CIS hockey tournament .. looks like one of the goaltenders, Connor Ungar (from Alberta) is on the Oiler's radar.. this list only includes the 8 teams at teh tournament.. their are other players on other teams that have been scouted as well.. like Florchuk at UofA.
Alexis Gravel from UQTR would be another interesting pick for a goaltender..

HockeydB C. Ungar

Oilers signed Ryan Fanti from NCAA a couple years ago, he was a standout at Minnisota-Duluth (0.929), he's been in the ECHL the past two seasons, had a major injury sideline his career in between.. but getting back on track.. only played 13 games this season..

Signing guys out of college or undrafted junior free agents are how you stock the cupboards when your draft picks are low due to trades.

Oilers sign Connor Ungar to entry level contract today.
Some info
Quote: | Although a rookie, Ungar caught NHL and other professional eyes through his first OUA season with the Brock Badgers, posting one of the best seasons since now Stanley Cup champion and NHL regular Logan Thompson graced Brock in 2018-19.
While he could return for another four seasons with the Badgers, his ability to dominate the OUA West with a .932 save percentage and three shutouts caught the eye of the pro game, potentially enough to earn an NHL contract, considering he’s just 22-years-old.
Sources have indicated that the Edmonton Oilers are leading the charge on adding Ungar, leading choices among offers he’s fielding.

I like it. The Oilers are going to need a replacement for backup Connor soon.

They still have Fanti in the ECHL.. he's got talent.. just been injured for most of his time there (34 games last year, and only 13 games this year - at 0.912).. maybe next year, Campbell gone.. Pickard or Rodrigue become the Oiler backup next year.. and Rodrigue/Fanti in Bakersfield.. or Pickard/Fanti.. and Ungar in the ECHL..

Always nice to get a top prospect free.
Speaking of Condors, Campbell 6 wins in his last 7. 2 shutouts. Gotta be tempting for Holland to get one more showing of his big pickup.

I would call Campbell up in a heartbeat when the playoff roster opens up and let him sit and watch and let Rodrique play all the Condors playoff games. I'd play Rodrigue one last season in the minors next year, then see Rodrigue as the Oilers internal, dirty cheap back up after next season. Get rid of Campbell after this season is over, resign Pickard to a 1 mill which would be 1 big raise from the 300K he was making for part of this season in the AHL. If you have to give him an extra year, oh well. If Rodrigue is ready to go and better, you bury Pickard's full cap in the minors. You got an expensive goalie in the minors but oh well.

Condors look good to make the playoffs in the AHL. Maybe Jack gets his redemption shot by winning a Calder Cup?
It'll be interesting to see who the Oilers recall for the playoffs, given the Condors will need guys and may want a deep run. Guys like Holloway, Gagner, Broberg and Campbell may all be hoping to get a recall and some may even have got some loose assurance from the team around when that recall will come. Hard to imagine the team calling back all of them though unless we face injury issues so long as Bakersfield is still alive and kicking.

.. also hearing rumours Noah Philp may make a possible come back next year.. he "retired" from the Condors after last season for family reasons.. Stauffer keeps bringing him up lately as a possibility for next year.. he'd be found money.. had 19g + 18a = 37 pts in 70 games his last Condor season..
he's 25, 6'-3" and 200lbs.. good wheels.. right shot, plays center

That would be great! He had 19 goals, 37 points in his first season in Baker. That's pretty darn good. I thought if he didn't retire, he would have saw games this year.

Have no idea... James was born in Laguna Beach, USA so I'd have expected he was down south somewhere..
funny Jame's dad is part of Oiler folklore.. missing the empty net that turned into Hemsky's goal .. the extra pt that meant Oilers finished 6th last instead of Chicago.. who then won the lottery.. and Patrick Kane..
Happy to see the signing, its free, but Jame's will likely be a long shot, as most post draft signings are.. apparently his skating has been his weak link from getting selected previously.. but you never know.. as an example Desharnais's skating has improved by quite a bit from his starting pt...
It's encouraging that he's scoring lots of goals and points this year but its not because he's one those 20 year old types that dominate because they are much bigger and stronger than the rest of the league they play in, Stefan is average size at 6'-0" and 186 lbs.
More signings please..

As rumoured Noah Philp will be resuming his hockey career beginning next season..
Good news for both him and Oilers.

It actually is my first name. lol I blame all the Stephanie's of the world. They almost always spell it with a "ph" rather than an "f". If the player is like myself, he's probably just starts spelling it when someone asks what the name is. And, even then, people still misspell it about 50% of the time. I even had the University I went to change the spelling of my name in Year 3. That was an interesting conversation with the Registrar's office. "Yes, I'm pretty sure I know how to spell my own name. No, I didn't misspell it on the application this semester."
