With two thirds for a 1st, the guy who Vegas picked first last year and San Jose keeping salary in all six years of Hertl's contract. God damn it.

Why can't we have management who actually gets stuff like this done??? Would be nice if "going for it" meant more than picking up a couple depth pieces.

I had this under speculation.. but I'll put a copy here..

Quote:

Vegas just traded for Hertl as well.. Hertl is $8.137M for 6 more years.. SJ retained 17%.. so its $6.75M

But get this.. Hertl has been out since February getting surgery for his knee cleaning out loose cartilage.. who's thinking he goes straight to IR and then remains there until game #1?
(He's currently on IR with the Sharks)

Vegas currently has the following on IR and LTIR. Guys on "IR" could always be put to "LTIR" retroactively..

INJURED RESERVE

Martinez, Alec IR Injury $5,250,000

Howden, Brett IR Injury $1,900,000

Carrier, William IR Injury $1,400,000

Dorofeyev, Pavel IR Injury $825,000

TOTAL $9,375,000

LONG-TERM INJURED RESERVE

Stone, Mark LTIR Injury $9,500,000

Lehner, Robin LTIR Injury $5,000,000

TOTAL $14,500,000

A peek at how Robin Lehner's rehab is going.... he's $5M for another year btw

Really disappointed Jeff Jackson didn’t demand more out of his group.

Are we really all that surprised though? Jeff Jackson strikes me as being a sloppy dude who is more than a little self-important.

The Oilers clearly didn't do enough and failed to keep up with their immediate competition.

I don't think we're in for a good ride this playoffs.

Yes, as the leader of this deadline he wears the failure more than anyone.

I just had hope he would demand some performance from his front office thisin what could be Leon Draisaitl’s final full season as an Oiler if we don’t get it right.

I mentioned Brian Lawton talking on Stauffer Tuesday (March 5) about trades.. really interesting he talks about the Henrique/Carrick trade directly at 8:45 .. here the link (pick the Brian Lawton segment on 03/05)
https://globalnews.ca/edmonton/program/oilers-now-with-bob-s tauffer

The whole segment is good.. he also talks about how much the market softens as the deadline closes.

Lawton used to be the GM of Tampa.. plus an agent..

Its only 17% retention on 8.175 .. you also have to have the NHL indicating no interest in how you manipulate your LTIR (Playoff) roster..

Yeah - but we KNOW the NHL doesn't care about that. Everyone's known for a decade now that the NHL isn't going to worry about teams abusing the LTIR with questionable injury timelines, so it's just not an excuse for the Oilers when other teams do it. We can do it too. We can play other games. We could have gone out and got a Jake Guentzel and left him on IR until the playoffs if need be.

Hell, we could have picked up a backup goalie for cheap at least - there were several that changed hands today who would have at least given us a real option if Skinner got hurt. Instead it looks like we're just praying it isn't a situation we ever have to deal with.

The Sharks are still carrying over $10MM of cap hit for Hertl while he plays for a divisional rival for the next six years. And they got a late first round pick, and last year's 32nd overall pick who has 17 points in 42 SEL games this year. Oh, and they kicked in two third round picks back to Vegas. That's incredible. Mike Grier is terrible at his job. One more former player proving my thesis about hiring former players to be your GM.

Couture announced he's done for the year too, so San Jose is an absolute joke the rest of the way this year. We do have one more game against them...

I will say, seeing what Toffoli and Hertl and even Guentzel went for, it's looking like Holland overpaid for what he got, and failed to make a big enough splash. I guess, like always, it's just a matter of praying that McDavid and Draisaitl can overcome all obstacles.

Same as it ever was. Defense, tending, depth, management.

Lol. Just get rid of the cap. All it does is handicap the Oilers while our competition go to town with good cap management plus ltir scamming. The cap only hurts us at this point

Oilers need to find an unscrupulous MD to fill that LTIR roster icon_nod

This past week I honestly thought Kane was going to be a huge trading chip making a splash and actually doing something that might move the needle.

Call me crazy. I know he could be a huge asset in the playoffs, but I think the Oilers could have made themselves better without him.

I hope someone throws this post in my face this spring. I really do.

I'm starting to wonder if he is ever going to be the same again after having his arm sawed off on the ice. I find it hard to not give him the benefit of the doubt after something like that - physically and mentally that's touch to come back from.

Hope i'm wrong.

I would think it is, but I detached my bicep once. Not the same injury, but tendon repair as well. The recovery was slow, but after 6 months I couldn’t even tell it happened. Arm is perfect. The nerve damage from the incision made my arm feel numb for about 4 months.

Now mentally for Kane? That was scary AF that night.

they're all different. I tore my PCL on the ice. No surgery, and about 4 months recovery to get 'active' again. I didn't feel fully recovered for about 12 full months.
