Woo! Hockey is back and the team is fixed.

McD and Drai don’t seem happy about Woody being fired. Not sure what this will do to the team

I don't think players ever like to see a coach fired, unless the coach was a total POS human being.
First the players probably blame themselves, usually the coach is fired because the team is playing like crap. Then there is the personal relationship you developed with the coach or coaches. Need to be pretty lacking empathy to not feel bad for them, combined with the guilt.
Players were not happy when Tippett was fired either. And the shame really lit a fire under their butts. Management is banking on that again to some degree.

It's because it reflects poorly on them. Guaranteed, those two gave the firing their blessing.
"[It was] really cool to throw on the Oilers gear, the gear that I want to play the rest of my life wearing. It was pretty cool to put it on. With all the history, it was a lot of fun." - Connor McDavid, July 1, 2015

Agreed. I still think it was the wrong move firing him. Now the 9th coach RNH has played for. Nearly hiring a coach every year. It’s insane

Accepting the firing and a blessing are two different animals. McDrai were allowed to run around with no consequences. Not many coaches would allow that behaviour.

ooooh...I'd like to hear more on this.
In what ways are McDavid and Draisaitl allowed to run around with no consequences? What did Woodcroft allow that most coaches won't? Do you think Knoblauch is going to change things for those two?
I'm legitimately curious here.

Haha. Okay. I’m hypothesizing here. Just my observation of them never being split up for any length of time even though the roster is as good as most NHL teams leads me to believe the duo carries too much weight in the room. Too many smart coaches can’t get them to remain apart and drive two lines of scoring.
Being from PA and having Dave return will get my juices going, and I’m sure I’ll hear some real dirt I know I’ll hear some inside stuff soon over a beer summit meetings. It’ll never get shared but if I disappear from these boards it’s because this team is forever FUBAR’d.

Weird start time, and that must be coming from Sportsnet because not a national US game.
