at least two goals each on the goalie and defence. Can get past that if the offence shows up, but nope, just a whimper.

Flyers playing chess while we think it's checkers.

If this keeps going, probably time for a miserable coach like Babcock or Torts as the last ditch effort to save this rebuild. No cap space or management skill to do anything else.

Either Ekholm is still injured or not in game shape due to said injury and missing preseason.

Bouchard is about one turn away from Whipping Boy Street.

It's possible Ekholm is simply becoming an Oiler

More than any other team I’ve seen, it seems like this team needs a certain kind of coach to move forward.

Who or what that is? I have no F#€king idea.

I think Woody is a good NHL coach, but I am starting to wonder if he has what we need for the next step. Or if his message isn’t connecting with the players anymore.

VGK found our Achilles heel and both Flyers and Canucks have been able to use the same formula. So far the team has not evolved or changed to meet the challenge.

And between the goalies and defence, we aren’t able to keep our mistakes from ending up as goals.

I wish I knew what the fix was. But the roster seems locked due to cap unless Holland does something drastic. It’s still early, but the signs that whatever magic we had last year was used up and we need something.

Illegitimi non carborundum.

Another absolute garbage effort. Little to no effort. The Oilers are playing like for 3 months they have been told they are the cup winners and think they can just step on the ice and get free wins. Until they as a team decide to come out and put in a legit effort every night. Nothing will change.

I appreciate Woody in his presser throwing out an F bomb about the effort.

Exactly how I felt. F-ing not good enough from top to bottom.

Went to a show last night.. PVR'd the game.. score popped up in the bar after.. deleted it this morning.. saved myself 2 hrs of pain!

Sounds like defence is same old.
Ekholm not 100%.. but rest of them are.. which is worrisome.

Oilers are a dumpster fire in their own zone. The frigging Philadelphia Flyers gained the zone with impunity last night. Guys went to open areas as usual, and scored. Think about that. Is the strategy to assume zone defence as soon as the Flyers gain possession and just let them have the blue line? IDK, what the feck is the strategy here?

I assume this might have some already, but results say otherwise...my suggestion for Woody, the braintrust, and the players is to compile video of how *good* teams defend in their own zone, how they can actually make adjustments within the confines of a 60 minute hockey game, and follow that model. Do everything possible to mitigate shots against, *everything*, because it's pretty clear so far that about 20% of them are going to get behind Oilers goaltending. Dummy it down, simplify as much as possible, because the cerebral wizards on the back end and elsewhere aren't picking up on whatever system you're currently laying down.

Your big division rival you lost to last year, and went on to a championship, is now 8 points clear of you. Well done. Hope you don't have to pull a season out of your arse like St. Louis had to a few years ago.

So completely frustrating.
