I like it. A 6'3 200lbs center. Why not give him a try.

NHL teams should be looking under every rock to find guys and they should be experts on players in their own backyard. If there is a player in your own backyard and you miss that guy, that's a fail in my opinion. Worth taking a look.

Ken Holland was interviewed by DNB in the Athletic.
Says Philp has retired. Sounds like some mental health stuff, wanted to be home.
Sounded like he had a shot at 4C next season. Holland said he was offered a two year contract.

That is really too bad. The guy looked like he had a chance to get a shot in the NHL real soon.

I wish him all the best and hope his mental health improves for this decision.
Not too worried from an Oilers perspective. 24 year olds who only score 0.5PPG at the AHL level aren't likely to be impact players in any meaningful way.
Also of course he was offered a two-year deal.

That's a bummer for Oilers. AHL is a grind.
Stauffer had said that one of the players who other teams scouts asked about the most was Philp.. he probably had a NHL career.. even at the AHL level its pretty good money.

Hopefully he will be OK. He was only down there 1 year so it's not like he was a journeymen AHLer spending years and years down there. So something pretty significant must have happened to him.

Should have traded him sooner then.
If someone calls me and asks me about a guy who's not making a big impact in the AHL and who's already mid-20s, I'm taking whatever draft pick they're offering.

He was the Condor's best center by end of the season.. probably thought they could use him and more valuable today than a low round draft pick.
