Couldn't have scripted a worse outcome of the 1:1 suspensions. Broberg gets 2 penalties for looking like a lost puppy and the refs sense the weakness. Hague that sucked in Nurse gets the GWG with a miracle long distance snipe. Hutton even draws a 4 min high stick to mess with our time to try to come back.
I'm glad the NHL gets next to no money from me.

If they'd only played the 2nd like they played the 3rd, this game was probably a win. This team is REALLY @!%!ing frustrating to watch. When will they be consistent from one game to the next?

That second period of our own stupidity may have cost us the series and playoff.
Incredible amount of team laziness leading to errors and penalties.

1:29 probably costs this team a shot at the Cup. Nice.

I don’t think it will happen, but it’s not a completely crazy idea.

Suspect call on Broberg with Eichel holding the stick. Careless stick by Janmark. Needed another Skinner save out of all of it.
Other than that, they flat out didn't get near enough pucks on Hill.
That 5 min PP needed more urgency and maybe a timeout in the middle.
I think you have to give Campbell the net next game. I still think this gets back to Vegas for game 7. Wish they weren't in this spot.

The way we played that game we got the result we deserved. Can't blame anyone other than ourselves.
So disappointing. We are a better team than then. Show it for more than one game at a time!

Back against the wall.
I expect a monster game from 29 on Sunday. He had no jump at all tonight.
Bouchard was a bit of a play killing spaz tonight.
They win Sunday.

Our forward depth in the top 6 is back to 2 guys and scrubs again. Not sure what happened, that was a major strength last year and a good chunk of this season. Bouch is helping creating more 5v5 offense than all forwards except McDavid and Drai.
We really balanced out our bottom 6 with guys that can play and not be liabilities, but now our top 6 is busted. Hyman and Kane likely because of injuries that are never gonna be fixed until an off-season. Nuge can't do anything unless he's on the wing, but we can't play him wing unless Hyman or Kane are playing well and we can actually make a useful line with Nuge + 2 good players. And #6 guy, I guess Yams usually, whoever we toss there, similar, need 2 other guys playing at a high level to be useful.
Guess just need to keep hoping McDrai can bring amazing games, and once in a while the wings look good for a bonus.

If we showed up and played solid, one bad call on Broberg wouldn’t have been an issue. Oil threw the game away all themselves.

He’s stopped 45 of 47 shots in just over 100 minutes.
They seem to know how to exploit Skinner. A lot of his goals against seem to be down low around his pads. Like LA was doing. Give them someone else to figure out. He has playoff experience.

I think it's going to happen. Second pull in three games for Stuart, so Soup is going to be handed the net.

Ultimately, it's not going to matter who we play in goal if we can't figure out how to play at even strength. We've been slaughtered 5v5 in this series. It's just not good enough.
When we led 2-1 tonight, we looked tentative and nervous and showed zero killer instinct. It was just waiting for the refs to put the game back on Vegas' sticks with a couple PPs. Brutal call on Broberg, but that's not the story tonight.
Now have to shake it off and forget it and win the next two. No other way about it.

On the bright side there weren't any Nurse turnovers.. 😊
One place they really missed Nurse was on the PK.. 14, 2, 73, 5 were gassed.
McDavid was the entire offence.. he's a beast.
.. on to Game 6

Similar to game 3 in Edmonton. Oilers start the game buzzing and then just die off....except this time, it's a very suspect call on Broberg's 2nd penalty in the middle of the 2nd which created a mess.
^Very tough to watch bc I felt the bottom 6 was creating a ton of chances in the first 30 minutes of the game just hemming the Vegas D in their own zone without Pietrangelo.
Kane & Hyman seem to be operating at 30-50% at ES...not sure what is up with Nuge.
Can't worry about game 7 because we gotta be all in tactically in game 6. Building will be rockin for sure

Yeah that was noted Oiler friendly ref Kozari who used Google Maps satellite mode to make that call from center ice..
.. despite the net was obscuring his vision of the actual play

Campbell is a very big gamble as a starter. He's come in in relief recently and done really well but in the regular season we were all calling for his head to be cut off. His starts were weak and they gutted the team early on in games. Does he have the confidence to start tomorrow AND if he loses the game does he have the confidence to ever wear an Oilers' jersey again? Would we fans let him???

We will see how this team responds to adversity tomorrow. They did a good job last year in game seven, I am expecting no different in an elimination game tomorrow.

Pretty..ummm interesting quotes from Angelo here.
Apparently his defence to DOPS was that he was retaliating to things that had happened earlier in the game/series.
Also he is upset that Oilers players are embellishing. Including Elkholm who he said looked like he was hurt but then played the next shift.
AP seems like he isn't too bright and/or has a stunning lack of self awareness.

What a baby. Comparing premeditated hockey plays to premeditated caveman acts.
I hope they run him even harder tonight.

Yeah he's definitely not showing a tonne of contrition. But he appears to be pretty stupid so its probably not something he's capable of.
I'm not sure what's wilder - the fact that he apparently made a conscious decision to use 'premeditated retaliation' as his defence to dops...or that it worked!

Ironic that a rule created to punish players looking for retribution was misused on Nurse right before going easy on Peter Angelo
