Didn't see a thread for this, so thought I'd start one.
Watching the Bruins and Panthers playing Game 5 of their series. I am shocked that Boston isn't running Florida out of the building, game after game... the Panthers play absolutely terrible D. Odd-man rushes against all the time, shots in the slot consistently. Without a good goalie, this team would be giving up 10 goals regularly.

Makar is a douche bag. I didn’t know that before. I think I finally loathe all their stars now.
This is playoff hockey he says. You gotta be a big boy he says.
I really hope he gets his.

Boston is very much the better team in the series, but Florida is still standing.
Turtle gets a freebie goal to win it, now we have to hear about him being "a guy that helps you win series" for eternity.

Pretty much mentioned in the OOT thread, but a playoffs thread seems more appropriate
Watched the first period of the Bruins / Panthers game. Was it just me or did that game seem SLOW compared to ours? Think I quit watching when the Bs were up...3-1? Have to admit I wasn't paying that much attention.
LMAO...as I say that, on the Avs vs Kraken stream I'm watching, the Kraken score & the commentator just nonchalantly says "and scores." No emotion, no anything. You wouldn't even know a goal had been scored if you weren't watching, and if you blinked for a second you'd miss it.
I like to rag on our commentators, be they Jack, or Singh, but at least they sound interested in the game, regardless of who just scored.
Gotta give the Kraken credit. Of all the playoff series, that's the one that I figured would be done in four, and not in their favour. Should it come to it, I MUCH prefer our chances vs them rather than the Avs, so go Kraken!

I watched the Avs broadcast too. I thought their whining about the refs was pretty funny considering Makar becoming a villain and they're the defending champs.

The Avs are the last team that should EVER complain about playoff refing as they got some pretty favorable calls last year against the Oilers. They had current and retired players, old coaches, execs, all guys who dedicated their lives to playing hockey at the highest level, rereading the rule book on offside and scratching their heads.
Not that it matters for the Oilers now but I found it interesting that Mackinnon after not getting a call was allow to scream at the ref, I assume swear at him, and wildly swing his stick hammering the boards in protest and he didn't get an unsportsmanlike but Leon gets one after the Oilers scored for taunting a hardcore trash talker in Doughty who takes every chance he can to smack talk the other taunt the other team.

Saw that Nate temper tantrum, pretty funny. I guess he thought the defender got him with a stick, but all that happened as the defender fell and Nate, trying to do a quick push to get away got his feet caught up with the fallen player. Refs rarely call that. But his tantrum costed his team a goal because he didn't bother to get back defensively.
Hope Seattle can close this one out! Eberle having some nice moments for them with the OT winner, and nice assist on the Nate tantrum goal. Hall also doing nicely for Boston. Just need our boy Nuge to get in the groove and we have all our Rebuild 2.0 boys having a fun playoffs.

Pretty disappointed that the Jets are potentially going to go down without much of a fight. I had them beating Vegas but losing Ehlers early really hurt. Then Morrissey, now Schiefele won't play game 5.
I suspect there will be big changes to that team in the offseason. Swapping out the coach didn't do it.

Some pretty bad luck with injuries. I'm not sure the series doesn't play out differently with a healthy jets roster but who knows. I don't think they need to make major changes but some of that will depend what is forced on them ie Dubois.

I picked the Jets because of Helleybuck. I didn't have a ton of faith in Brossoit. Sadly the Jets team has injuries and their give a crap seems to have left them again.

And he was still complaining about it in the post game! I didn't watch the entire game so maybe there is a pattern or that was the last straw or something but it seemed like a pretty routine non call - maybe a penalty, maybe not. But this is the Avs - darlings of the league and they aren't used to things not going their way all the time.
I'm almost hoping they make it to play the Oilers this year.

I've watched half of the series and I think Seattle is just a very annoying team to play against. Kind of like the Kings. They're pesky, annoying, probably a little bit dirty, and they should be a lot easier to beat than they are. Yet they keep hanging around. Imagine how frustrating it would be to end your title reign against the freaking Kraken.

The Maroon hit on Giordano.
I’m trying to be objective, but I’m not sure it a was penalty. Wasn’t late. Wasn’t really on the #’s like Simpson states.
Called it roughing. Okay. Totally worth it.

Looks like Avs will be without Nitchushkin for an "off-ice issue".. 🤔

The @denverpost can report Valeri Nichushkin was involved in a police incident at #Avs team hotel in Seattle, resulting in a woman who was found intoxicated in his room being transported to hospital for medical treatment.
Nichushkin left Seattle that day.

Hearing a lot less from the Devils-are-too-small-and-skilled-for-playoffs crowd now. We are seeing a Bob Stauffer narrative crumble in real time.

Look at this goalie they pulled out of their butts too, Akira Schmid, sweet name Haula and palat were nice adds too. Rangers with an embarrassing out in progress now

The Leafs failed to close out the Lightning tonight with the 3-1 series lead. I wonder if their fans are starting to get that sinking feeling given what happened to their team two years ago....

Had a wonderful day streaming CHUM TSN 1060.
I highly recommend it the day after a Leafs loss. They are freaked about Vaseline Boy. A lot of talk about how bad this franchise chokes. Really hoping there’s a reason to tune in on Monday as well.

Jets first out and then Bowness shows why he’s one of the worst coaches of all-time, ripping in to his team post-series. Just no good reason for that at this point in time as the team has no chance to respond to the criticism for months and by then it’ll be a different looking Jets team. Most likely with a different coach behind the bench. I don’t think there’s any coming back from calling your team disgusting after they lose a series without their top Center and top defenceman.

I read this morning that if you had bet against the Leafs for each series clinching game they have been involved in since 2013, then reinvested the winnings on your next bet, an initial investment of $100 would have yielded a return of around $477,000. That's pretty nuts.

I'd agree with you if it wasn't the first time Bones ripped them. They've been playing this way since February save for a two/three-week stretch at the end of the year and Bowness has been very critical all year. They've had plenty of time to respond and haven't. Playing without an entire 1st line and a top-ten D-man didn't help, but the effort and "give-a-crap" levels were so low. They got what they deserved last night and they deserved to hear about it. Big changes coming, don't be surprised to see any or all of Scheifele, Dubois and Hellebuyck traded. They all are one-year from UFA and the team can't afford them all to walk without getting something back.

I do think something just isn't right with the mix with the Jets. They did have a lot of injuries which didn't help things but they weren't very good for a long time this year.

You're talking about literally one of the worst coaches in NHL history and the team under his charge went from challenging for first in the league to scraping in to the playoffs.
They lost to a team with 16 points more in the regular season who got back an extra star player. Meanwhile the Jets lost a 68 point center in Scheifele and a point per game defenceman in Morrisey. They're short-handed, they're battered and they're outmatched. It isn't a surprise they lost to the Golden Knights.
And Bowness firing off now is just an attempt to point fingers, because there's no other real benefit to him doing so. If he blasted them after the previous loss, maybe it's motivation and they dig deep the next game but after the series is over?
I mean, not even Sutter did that. The Calgary media was trying to set him up to roast his stars following their exit last year and he just refused to go there. There's no win from throwing people under the bus, unless you're trying to deflect any possible suggestion that it's coaching that let the team down.
And given Bowness' extensive record of sucking as an NHL coach - the coaching probably IS in big part to blame.

Something is up there. Maurice leaving in mid-season, and I think I dislike Bowness more than most, but his tirade to the media couldn't be done during the series, and he does not look like the type to hold back in the dressing room. I would gather a guess that the team had plenty of time to respond to the criticism in real-time. Bowness just looks more like a than usual.
Jets just became the most interesting off-season team in the NHL

Rick Bowness - 721 games coached. 258-384-48-31. Points percentage of .413 (just marginally better than Eakins' .408 but with and extra EIGHT seasons of mediocrity). His more recent teams have been semi-competitive and above .500, but in his first 8 years as a head coach he broke that .500 point just once. For all those years, this was only the fourth time he's coached a team in the post-season. He's won 4 playoff rounds, of which three came in the same year when sun and moon aligned in the covid bubble for him to get to the Finals. That was clearly a blip though. He's terrible.
If the Jets were thinking of keeping him, that little rant should end that idea. It's an offence to the team to keep a guy who does that behind the bench.

To be fair, he coached a terrible team in Ottawa for several years. I think that team was going to be bad no matter who the coach was. If you exclude the Ottawa seasons then his points % is .513, which still includes having to coach the Islanders while Milbury was GM and the team was "owned" by John Spano.
Interesting that he coached both the old and new Winnipeg Jets. Guy has been around a long time, and without Jim Montgomery issues in Dallas getting him fired that crazy run to the final in 2020, I don't think he would have ever had another chance at being a head coach in the NHL.

He doesn't tend to bring out the best in any team ever. He got a hot goalie run during the weirdest playoffs ever, and other than that his teams underachieve. Ottawa stayed terrible with him at the helm, even as they started to add decent players. When they fired him, they jumped 36 points in the standings and made the playoffs for the first time.
And doing things like this you can understand why. He shouldn't work in the NHL again.

On the contrary. I’d love to see him coach the Flames next year with Sutter as GM. Canucks? Kings? Anyone in the West.
Heck. Even Toronto.

I agree. In Calgary as a co-coach with Eakins would be perfect!

.. more on Nichushkin's incident in Seattle..
Appears to have been a 28 year old woman from Ukraine (who says her passport was taken away by "somebody") .. Police report doesn't state whether he was in the room (or not) when police arrived. Could be Nichushkin called for an escort from this "somebody" and a woman that was being trafficked (and drugged) arrived.. no charges, but I don't think Nichushkin will be playing anytime soon..
One thing I found interesting.. apparently the Avs have 2 off-duty Denver policemen travel with the team as security.. article says this is not uncommon for NHL teams.. I wonder if Oil do the same?

If you have $80 million in 20 year olds wandering around a city away from home, hiring a couple of former badged babysitters is probably a cheap and wise investment.

So would renting a different hotel room a couple blocks away.
Crazy story. It's not super surprising other than it happened in the playoffs and I'm hearing about it.
Please do not feed the bears. Feeding the bears creates a dependent population unable to survive on their own. Bears.

True, there is a lot of franchise investment there.. didn't think they'd be used as babysitters during personal time though, more for fan security during team travel.. whatever happened, not a bright move by Nichushkin..
Oh.. and apparently he's married.. oops!
Ol' Valeri's got some splainin' to do!
