That's much closer to how this team can play. Goalie rebounds be damned, we limited chances and got a load of quality ones. May have figured out this poor mans Jon Quick in their net too. Hope they can keep it up and close this out in LA

Well that was fun.. Same again on Saturday (Sunday morning for some of us!) and we'll be one happy fan base. This is exactly the result that I wanted after the game on Sunday, they didn't seem to want to change the system which was being broken down often. ESPN comms were constantly calling the Kings out for just falling back to 1-3-1 and giving us the room to set up.

.. file this under "Pleasant Surprise"
happy to see that both refs refused to bite on the Tony Award winning dive by Fiala near the end of the 3rd.. on the replay.. what an absolute fake.
Maybe Bieksa calling out LA Kings embellishment during HNIC might've been enough to shine the light on these turd flies.

It's probably a far more realistic 12/23 if our series was refed like some of the others, but we can't have that now can we? 12 PP goals in 5 games with the kings likely going something like 6/22. That would just break all the laws of game management.

good to note that the KINGS 1-3-1 defense is the exact opposite of what u need if you are behind. The KINGS don't know how to take the puck away from the OIL when behind.
Ha.
That said... the KINGS will have 3 (4?) days to rest and devise a plan to get ahead early. And Woody will have the same time to make sure that doesn't happen.
...this time, it's for real (isn't it?).

McLellan maintaining the trap no matter what the score is. Sounds like some classic McLellan stuff. Makes me a bit optimistic about what "adjustments" McLellan will manage for Saturday.

I had a good feeling about that game going into it. I'd picked 3-0, but I'll take 6-3.
Glad our guys have a few days to rest up & get over the bumps & bruises.
Bjugstad with 2g after being elevated up the lineup, compared to a bunch of big fat zeroes for Yams...noticed that Yams didn't see a whole lot of ice after that defensive brain fart either.

I did see Yams actually tie up an open guy jumping into the slot late in the game. Good for him. But he definitely been overwhelmed in this series. Little fearless rookie Yams that would jump into every tough area and come out the winner is long gone. He's been hurt too many times I think.
I don't know if I blame him that much for the Kempe goal. Why are both Ceci and Nurse 2/3 of the way to the blue line near the boards? Ceci chases first and then just stops moving, also allows Kempe to skate by him to the net and Ceci barely reacts and just covers nothing the rest of the play. Then Nurse, unaware his D partner is just lost goes chasing his hit to take himself away from any hope to defend anything within 30ft of the net. Just little yams alone with LA's most dangerous player who makes a pretty good play. If we finish this series off, lots to work on. Vegas has a lot more offensive talent that will happy jump into the open spaces we keep leaving, or leave with one of our many forwards that struggle to fill in as D.

Big win. I don't know if the Oilers game 4 comeback took the Kings heart but the Oilers took it too them. Chased Korpisalo, Doughty sprawling all over the ice. It was a great night.
I am glad Woody has seen the light and dropped Yamo. Bjugstad, Foegele, Ryan have all been superior. He elevated Bjugstad and he scores 2 goals. I hope it continues.
Bounce back by Desharnais.
I think Hyman is finally going, I thought he was good last night.
Kane looks like he's found his mojo.
I LOVE playoff Kulak. He's been unreal all the games and I am glad he was rewarded with a goal.
I thought McLeod had his best game. Looked actually engaged in the game.
Yamo, my god. I mentioned up top that it's long overdue for him to be dropped in the line up. I appreciate his PK work but other than that, nothing happens and his "check" on Kempe on the goal was absolutely pathetic. I honestly think his size in the playoff is a factor for him. The hockey gets harder and more physical and he doesn't get in their as much. He needs to be a former Oilers after this playoffs. Too much money for what he does.
Nuge needs to get going. I was hoping he would score last night to spark him. Maybe he is saving it for game 6. I hope so.
Skinner. I thought again was OK. I am sure/want several guys to just take some time off to heal up but I hope Skinner works with the goalie coach. His rebounds are awful. He has to stop firing them up into the slot as often.

Kulak? WTH man. Who is this guy? Must have had a couple of Red Bulls before each of the last two games. His confidence seems to have gone from 2 to 10. I like it.
Bjugstad I thought was very good - more than just the goals. For a guy not known as being all that physical, he was finishing his checks all night. I know it's a fairly subjective "stat", but he was credited with 6 hits. Ditto for McLeod. Credited with 4 hits, and a couple of them were nice solid checks. Great to see - I think he had one of his best games.
And as much as I've been a bit of a Skinner booster even going back to last year - his rebound control seems to be getting worse. He's sending them right back up the middle. Only cost us one last night (the Iafallo goal), but could have easily been 2-3 more.
I like his calm demeanor and that he hasn't really let in many stinkers, but he's not robbing the Kings of any great chances, and he's creating more dangerous chances for them sending those rebounds right back into the slot. I still like him as our starter, but he needs to figure out a way to improve those rebounds.

What happened to the diving fine?
https://twitter.com/JBarker0484/status/1651091819957198848?s =20
That's just so bad. If that can't get the league to dust off the diving fine rule and use it, then I have no idea what it would take.

I wonder if the refs are getting tired of the Kings act? They are falling all over the place looking like they got shot anytime an Oiler breathed on them yet they only got 1 PP.

I have a big dilemma here, guys...If Kings win game 6, I'll be in Edmonton for game-7....I've never been to an Oiler game in Edmonton, let alone a playoff game and let alone a game-7....When will I ever get an opportunity like this again...
I hope there's no game-7 though, for the record.

No Oilers until Saturday, so I was looking forward to hate watching the Leafs tonight.
Turns out the NHL moved the game to Thursday. Likely to line them up with that all important Saturday HNIC slot.
Will be so nice to see them eventually get bounced..

There were a few brain farts on d-zone coverage.. usually too high in the zone and leaving net front open for scoring chances..
But the strangest one I thought was the Kempe goal, where we had Yamo.. Kostin .. Bjugstad all in the slot, decent position, between the LA players and the net.. the puck pops out from the boards and no one can get to Kempe before he walks out in front of Skinner to roof it.. Yamo was closest.. and had initial position on him.. in real time it looked like Yamo froze for a second and half.. never reacted .. Kempe gets the jump on him, goes past.. and its in the net.
Its moves like that that I miss Janmark on the PK over Yams.
Yomo used to be an energy bunny chasing/retrieving pucks .. seems slower now.
Anyone hear about a Janmark prognosis recently?

Lots of guys are dealing with bumps and bruises I am sure. The key to me is in games. Rishaugh hinted McD might be banged up a few games ago. Then I watch him play and he skates like a man possessed, darts in and out of traffic, stops and changes direction on a dime and cutting and weaving all over the place. So he's probably sore but I don't see him even practicing this far out from the game if it was really bad.
